How much better is it then the iPhone 11 Pro?
@ShayneMostyn
@ShayneMostyn 3 жыл бұрын
Its definitely better than the 11pro. But not that much better. I wont be upgrading from the 11 to the 12. But if I had any previous iPhone to the 11, then its 100% worth the upgrade.

One thought that comes to mind is that folks who really want to get the most out of their phone camera go for the best option they can. @@lorenzosimonetti736 Yeah you are right, iPhones kind of suck in with their sensor size, still to would be a cool comparison.
@Quoutub
@Quoutub 3 жыл бұрын
@@lorenzosimonetti736 The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 35mm² sensor (1/1.9" type) with f/1.6 lens whereas a Xiaomi Note 10 has a 69.5mm² sensor with f/1.69 lens, hence the Xiaomi phone captures approximately 77% more light per time than the 12 Pro Max.
@Quoutub
@Quoutub 3 жыл бұрын
The lens of the Pro Max captures 47% more light per time than the lens of the Pro. 47% is not much, even 100% would be just a small improvement. In order to take better astrophotography photos a much longer total exposure time is absolutely necessary. Even when you use a camera with a much larger effective diameter, you would need to combine for example 60-200 photos in order to prevent terrible results, if you take a photo of a galaxy.
@lonelyroamer
@lonelyroamer 3 жыл бұрын
It is not so true. Yes, xiaomi sensor is bigger...but the sensor. Every single pixel is smaller than the iPhone 12 Pro max. So, a single pixel, on the iPhone could catch more light than a bigger sensor with so much pixels. Look at Sony mirrorless gamma. The A7S... where S stand for Sensitivity. It has a superb low light performance, thanks to his (only 12mpx) big pixels.

@ShayneMostyn
@ShayneMostyn 3 жыл бұрын
@@embosity675 I agree mate, although I don’t think that is apple’s customer base. They have always been a Company that makes things easy to use for customers. A full manual camera isn’t apples style.

Hi from the U.K. Shayne, This one short (but very sweet) video is probably the most inspirational videos on this subject I’ve ever watched, thanks for making & sharing it. I’m waiting for my 13 Pro Max 256 GB to turn up and I’m off into the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia (North Wales an hour from me) to try out some shots of hopefully a beautiful clear night sky using the tripod I’ve already bought and my new 13 Pro Max. The Aurora Borealis is regularly seen from the island of Anglesey which isn’t from Snowdonia so I’m hoping to grab a few shots of that too… My Norwegian bestefar (grandpa) is from a hundred miles inside the Norwegian Arctic Circle and I’ll be taking my 13 Pro Max with me next time I’m up there. Thanks again for such an inspirational video Shayne if any of my Astrophotography shots are half as good as the one you took in this video I’ll be well chuffed (happy). Is 30 seconds the maximum of how long the shutter can be open? It could be an amazing combo with a star tracker if it can stay open longer.
@ShayneMostyn
@ShayneMostyn 3 жыл бұрын
Yes 30 seconds is the max. If you were to use it with a tracker, you may want to look at something like the Night Cam app.

Hi, can I still do this with just the regular iPhone 13. The maximum of mine is 10 seconds only unlike the pro that has a 30 seconds. Thank you for your time and answer. Great tips!

Gday Asuka, to get 30 seconds, the phone will need to be on a tripod. Once its on a tripod, leave it for a moment and it will change to 30 seconds.

How about Iphone 12 Mini, will there be any difference on the quality of the photo?? Will the light sensor be weaker?

From the specs, it should be the same. You just don’t have the extra lens. But you should still be able to do it.

Im also a storm chaser here in the UK and i reckon this will get some awesome pics too. I really like Astrophotography but have never had a camera to do this. I have a GEN 3 night vision camera for UFO captures with has been fantastic and caught so many. But for Photography i cant wait for my iphone12 pro max after saving for a long time for it. Can you make a video side by side of iphone 12 pro VS 12 pro max astrophotography test please mate. Im also going to subscribe to the newsletter to obtain the bar code editing App which looks great.

My iPhone is 12 pro Max and I would like to shoot night sky that was real dark and the iPhone was on the tripod,the duration was still 10s, although I need 30s. Is there any way I can manually set it to 30s? thanks。

It can sometimes take a second or two to give you the option of 30 seconds. Sounds like you were setup correctly. I would try it again mate.

So I borrowed my buddies actual camera and did some basic Astro shots. Came out nice but he was saying anything longer than 15 seconds and the stars will be elongated due to the earth moving. Besides getting one of those rotating bases for the tripod is there anything that can be done about this? Although if you don’t zoom in the pics look pretty good. I’m excited to try out my new 12 pro though. I am not a photographer at all so the simpler the better. Thanks for the videos.
@ShayneMostyn

What your buddy has told you could be accurate, it depends on the lens. Search Google for "rule of 500" and that will answer that for you. It basically depends on the lens and sensor size. Phones vs DLSR is not that comparable. The DSLRs have no computational photography. The iPhone 12 Pro will shoot for 30 seconds on a tripod and do a reasonable job of avoiding star trails.

Thanks mate! The S21U does a better job with Astro, because it has that manual mode. For everything else, I prefer the iPhone. iPhone is easier, results are better with the S21U.

Hello Shayne, Stumbled on your channel by accident couple weeks ago and been a fan since and subscribed straight away. Thanks for doing all trips out making the vids for us. Love your work. I have an iphone 6plus and just bought iphone 12 pro max . I have a question, do you reckon the pro max with its 47% larger senspor will be much better than the iphone 12 pro for astrophotography?
@ShayneMostyn
@ShayneMostyn 3 жыл бұрын
Gday mate, it’s likely to be better than the regular 12. I would love to test it but our season is pretty well done now for the year. I suspect it still won’t be as good for this as the pixel range though.
