Today I revisit the iPhone 12 Pro Max. It's been about a year since I made a guide for replacing the screen, and it was shot on my cell phone. That repair was my first ever iPhone 12 series replacement, this is probably my 500th or so. Links to parts and tools below:
I am not responsible for damage or data loss caused by you to your device, this is not a guide for beginners and reasonable safety precautions should be followed. Attempt this repair at your own risk.
Parts:

** Try to avoid using Incell and Hard OLED displays, these increase the likelihood of a low-quality repair and may cause returns.

took my phone into a repair shop to get the screen replaced and was quoted $350. I said screw that, bought a screen on amazon for $65 and did it myself in 30 minutes. thanks for the great video!

Glad I could help! It's one of the reasons I started making videos, seeing how much people were getting charged and having customers ask if they can just buy the part themselves.

I've never replaced a screen before. But I'm relatively handy with repairs in general for similar applications. Would you say this is easy enough for a first timer?
@TapticDigital
@TapticDigital Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend it, simply due to the difficulty of removing the screen, not ripping anything, and making sure things get disconnected properly. I'm not saying it isn't doable, just that it certainly isn't the most repair-friendly for a first timer.
@jonathanb1999

@@TapticDigital I totally understand. There are some great videos that help to see where everything is connected. I feel kinda good about most of the required removal and detachments. But are any adhesives required to get the screen to fit as originally? Or any of the attachments?
@TapticDigital
@TapticDigital Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanb1999 not required, I would recommend picking up a pre-cut adhesive for the frame where the screen lays down, many replacement screens will include on in the box. Other than that, I'd say just take it slow, be careful and double check with guides as you move through it!

Hi! Thank you for this video. I wonder if there's a smaller screwdriver set recommendation that's specifically for iPhone 12 Pro Max. (I see your recommendation in the bio but I don't think I'll need that many of them)

As long as you can find a set that has Phillips (also called JSIC), Pentalobe (Star, 5 point), and Triwing (sometimes called Y-wing) all in small sizes you should be good to go. A lot of small hardware stores sell these, and sometimes I've gotten lucky at Lowes/Home Depot in the US.

I’ve fixed thousands of phone literally. Watched this only because proximity sensor wouldn’t lay perfectly flat for me so I was hoping you’d touch on that or have trouble with it lol. After messing with it for 30 min to lay flat, I’m gonna put it back together and test proximity sensor

I’ve noticed that the aftermarket ones sometimes have excess glue in the plastic slots at the top, I’ve had decent luck carefully scraping them out or gently stretching them with tweezers. In rare desperate cases I would extract the bracket out of the old screen and adhere it into the new one to replace the problem one. Sometimes they just refuse to fit and need that little bit of extra persuasion, and by that I mean angry monkey technician force it in.

So is it fair to say the DIYer is not going to do this screen replacement!? Because of neccessary software and the tool you mentioned.
@TapticDigital
@TapticDigital 4 ай бұрын
The software and tool definitely aren’t needed, only for doing OEM parts. You can replace the screen with an aftermarket one and the only difference is getting a popup that tells you the screen isn’t a genuine part. Otherwise it isn’t too terribly difficult

Thanks for the response but I am little confused. I am considering buying a used off of fb market place with a scracked screen and replacing but watching your video when you replaced the ear speaker assembly and needing the “I copy tool” to transfer the true tone programming throws me off then? And then you say you will get an error in the end regardless of the OEM and aftermarket then you will need software help? When you say software help do you mean the phones latest update? Sorry please understand you are the guru, i am willing learner! 🤓

@TapticDigital

Like tinted blue where it should be white? Whoever repaired it may not have copied the true tone feature. Go to Settings, Display & Brightness, and just below the brightness slider it should say TrueTone. If not, they didn’t copy it.

If i replace my iphone 12 pro max screen and for whatever reason i trade my phone in at apple or even to my phone carrier, will they check and deny my phone if the screen is replaced? Does anyone have any experience on this?

The one I use is the iCopy Plus, it's a bit dated at this point. I'd recommend the iCopy Plus 2.2 from QianLi, as long as you get the proper boards for the phones you need, it works fantastic! It can't get rid if the non-genuine warnings, but it will retain truetone which is useful.
