iPhone Screen Is Too Dark. Here's The Fix!

Two Apple experts explain what to do when your iPhone screen is dark.
First, try turning up the brightness on your iPhone to see if that makes any difference.
If it doesn’t, there’s a decent chance that one of the iPhone Accessibility settings has been configured in a way that makes the screen darker than usual. Make sure Reduce White Point and Zoom are both turned off.
If your iPhone screen is still too dark, Reset All Settings. Instead of tracking down the specific software problem, this will just reset everything!
The last step you can do before ruling out a software problem is a DFU restore, the deepest iPhone restore. It’s time to consider repair options if your iPhone display is still dark.

Omgosh!!! This was a game changer! I had no clue my white point was turned up to 80%! I’d finally gotten so frustrated thinking the iphone8s must be jacked bc this is my second one, just got a replacement with insurance, it STILL had the darkest display watching vids! Thanks guys the reduce white point did the trick! Now using navigation mid day and I can see better! I set reduce white point as an accessibility shortcut so day or night the right setting is 3 clicks away!

Fantastic-my iPod 6 has always been darker than my iPod 5. Never knew about the white point settings. Now it’s just as bright. I will use iPod 6 now in my motorcycle. Thanks so much!

Thanks, this helped me a lot and pointed me in the right direction. My screen was way too dark in sunlight. I have Zoom turned on so I can zoom into text if it’s a bit small - my eyes are not what they once were - or if I want to zoom into a photo more than the Photo app will allow. When I turned Zoom off the screen went to full brightness as you said. However I wanted to keep the zoom feature so I turned it back on and the screen darkened again. Next I had a look at the ‘Zoom Filter’ setting and it was set to ‘Low Light’. I changed this to ‘None’ and the screen went back to full brightness. So it is possible to have Zoom enabled and still get full brightness. Thanks again. Great video.

The Reduce White Points seems to be the culprit for me. Though it was off already, turning in on and readjusting the slider up and down again, the turning it off fixed my "Ohmigod I’m going blind" issue. Thanks!

I like you two fellows a lot. Friendly, comprehensive, easy to understand fixes for nearly everything. (I say "nearly" only because of my ignorance of many conundrums, I'm sure. Were I to run into one of them I'm confident I'd find the fix right here.) One suggestion only. In the new iPhone SE (as you already know), Apple has placed "Accessibility" outside "General," as its own category in the main menu. You can't go back and redo everything every time a new phone comes out, or Apple changes something on a whim ): But maybe going forward you can mention this for those who are easily put off when their experience doesn't e-x-a-c-t-l-y match yours. I have a brightness problem outdoors. I have an Otter Box on my iphone 7. I have the brightness turned all the way up, which does not solve the problem. I removed the Otter Box thinking that the screen protector may be the problem. It helped somewhat but I still have difficulty seeing the screen details outdoors. It happens in bright sun or overcast. It's almost like the phone specifically dims itself in outdoor light. Being a location-based gamer, this presents problems. Do you have any suggestions?

Interesting. It sounds like something in the Settings app might be affecting your screen brightness - or it's a hardware problem. Try a Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings to eliminate the possibility of a software problem. Good luck!
