I'm planning to buy iPhone X used and i wanted to basically check if everything is working totally fine. So i did watch a lot of videos on KZfaq of checking this and that. But i was wondering if i could just take the iPhone and show it to the Apple service centre and ask them to check everything and run all types of tests over it. So will they do it or not and also what the might ask me to pay. Thank you.

Unfortunately with water damage there isn’t really much you can do. If your phone is still under warranty you could try taking it to Apple and see if they’ll repair it.

Yes, it is frustrating when you know that the phone wasn't submerged. The trouble is that water resistance is quite complex and depends on both the submerged depth and the duration, both of which are difficult to measure on the actual device. So Apple provides a level of water resistance but they don't guarantee it. You'll also see that they always use the words "water-resistant" rather than "waterproof".

There is probably a short in the charging port (salt buildup or water). Try cleaning it out with a cotton bud and some isopropyl alcohol. If that doesn't work then it might be the battery that is giving up.

You should be able to tell by the seal on the phone, if it opened up relatively easily then it has probably been repaired before. But yes, if the sticker is missing then there’s also a good chance that that is a replacement screen.

There may be corrosion on the lightening port terminals. Try wiping the inside of the port with the point of a cotton bud and some rubbing alcohol.

I’m not sure which one you liked more but they’re: Pala - Visionary and Tide Electric - Cascades of Love.

There are usually two more inside the iPhone as well, but this is the only one visible without opening the iPhone up. One is inside near the battery connector and the other is inside near the earpiece.

Michael Klements thanks. My Face ID stopped working and can't be set up again. Most likely water got inside via earpiece as one day I had "fog" on the front camera. However my sim lot sensor isn't red. Hopefully Vodafone warranty will sort this out but if they look inside i might have a problem.

Phones don’t do well with high humidity either. You might want to take it in to Apple if it’s under warranty. If not then you could attempt to open it up yourself to see the other indicators, but you’d damage the water protection in the process.

Hi Piyu. Although the newer iPhones are advertised as being water resistant, this doesn't mean that you should intentionally submerge them and they're not designed for underwater videos and photos. Apple don't generally replace or repair water damaged iPhones. If you do have the option then go with a replacement, repairs don't always pick up all of the problems and some issues may only show up after a few months.

If everything is still functioning after a few days then it's probably still ok. Leaving it in a bag of desiccant (or rice) overnight will help to absorb any remaining moisture in the buttons, switches and ports.

It depends on the particular model but yes there is usually more than 1. The common locations for these stickers is near the earpiece, near the lightning port, on the logic board near the battery terminal and then in the sim tray as shown.

I would avoid spraying anything into the phone. The phone is pretty well sealed, so the water doesn't really have anywhere to go. All you'll be doing is moving it around in the phone and possibly damaging more components. The best would probably be to open it up and dry it out properly if it's still working.

The replacement displays often don't have liquid indicators on them. I'm surprised that even the genuine Apple replacement didn't have one on it though.

Are the indicators red? Unfortunately, while they say its water resistant, they still don't cover any form of water damage under warranty. I assume this is because its difficult for them to determine how the damage happened, the iPhone may have been submerged deeper or for longer than it was rated for.

Has your screen been replaced previously? The replacements often don't have these indicators pre-installed.

The indicator is absorbent, so typically even a small amount of water will turn the whole indicator red.

There is another indicator near the charging port, but you'll need to remove the display to access it.

If your phone starts acting up after coming in contact with water (seawater is the worst) then its likely water damaged and could be dead. If you're unsure of the phones condition you could try opening it up yourself or taking it to Apple to asses (if its still under warranty). You might find that opening it up, disconnecting the battery and allowing it to completely dry out saves the phone, although this is quite a slim chance.

You’ve probably got water in the speaker. You can get the speaker replaced, you won’t need to get a new phone if everything else is still working.

If your phone is still under warranty then it's worth trying to take it in and see what they say. If there is any sign of water on the indicator or on any of the other internal indicators then they probably won't repair it under warranty.

The stickers don’t mean everything. That’s why they keep trying to seal them up. Naturally these stickers may redden with time or condensation. So if Apple can’t guarantee this phone was deliberately dropped theyll cover it. If they think they can they’ll ask you to pay for it or you’ll admit it. Apple has an extremely high Margin on their products. Meaning the phones not worth no where anywhere what you paid. So customer care is a priority. They do try to take care of the customers. AppleCare or Apple Store. They will fix a lot of things they shouldn’t fix. Or stuff that most companies would say no too. Two reasons. My 3,500 computer isn’t worth 3,500 on widows plat form. And a 1 thousand dollar iPhone is around 180 bucks to make. They have loyalty and reliability. But they charge for that. Short story take it in. See what they say. They already got your money. Lol If you bought their most expensive computer today. It’s almost 10 grand. A set of wheels for it is $700. That means the wheels on that computer cost almost as much as the tires on my BMW. They aren’t gonna question much. You paid up front and didn’t know it. Now if this was Nokia or Samsung they’d probably shut you down faster than you could say please. But point is you kinda already paid for it

Sometimes water gets into the phone and its not enough to damage it immediately but eventually the water or water vapour damages the components. Try opening the phone up, unplugging the battery and allowing it to dry for a few days while open. Can you still feel it vibrate and sound if you press the buttons and plug it in to charge?

@@MichaelKlements I can feel the phone vibrate when plugging it in and can feel the screen touch sensor when I swipe the screen but my screen is completely black.Does this mean my phone has water damage? I can't tell the difference in the indicator. But it did do it after it feel in the bathroom sink with running water.

It would be that a drop or knock has partially dislodged a connector or damaged the screen, or it may be water damage. If the phone is still under warranty then take it to Apple to asses. If not then you could try open the phone up and check the other internal indicators around the ear piece and lightning port.

Yes, it'll have a similar indicator in the sim card tray and sometimes another one around the earpiece. All iPhones and iPods manufactured since 2006 have moisture indicators somewhere inside them.

It sounds like water may have seeped in under the edge and damaged the sensor strip at the bottom of the screen using for those swiping gestures.

Water damage is a difficult one to fix. If the phone isn't still under warranty then you could open it up and try properly drying it out and see if that helps. If it doesn't then you could try replacing the display assembly, if the issue with with the actual sensor then this should fix it.

If the problem started right after swimming with your phone then it’s quite likely. Water damage can vary, from a little getting in around the speaker and damaging a single component (like the FaceID sensor) to a lot getting in through the SIM card tray and destroying the logic board.

This is probably because the display has already been replaced at some stage. The replacements generally don't have moisture stickers on them.

Water damage generally shows up as hardware glitches, speakers not working, screen flickering or going black, buttons not working. It's unlikely that water damage has made your phone sluggish unless it has somehow affected the battery performance.
