I just realized that the arduino pro mini has no way of being programmed out of itself . so you need additional components ( showed here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bZ54dsqSvtmlZ2Q.html ) I just go with the arduino NANO . it seens to have the smae pins but with standard programming port (USB)

Let me know when you get a 3.5 HDD version working. 1TB isn't enough space for typical NAS with lots of media.

Hi. Sorry can no answer that. I only use 1080p or less. I would guess not good. The pi 3 USB interface is only USB 2.0.

Great vid. Beyond the scope of this anyone can protect their raspberry pi's os by locking it within program and no need for a ups. A ups use case is critical monitoring or if you werent able to protect the os.

I was wondering what size memory you had on the Pi5, and if there would be any performance difference between the 4GB and 8GB versions.
@MichaelKlements3 күн бұрын
This is an 8GB versions. There might be a slight performance difference but I never noticed more than 25-30% RAM usage during my testing.

This setup cost me $165 without the drives, so definitely a lot less than $400. The drives are quite pricey though.

Congratulations on the project, I'm from Brazil and I'm researching to try to do a similar project but with orange pi zero 3, do you know if it's possible to do this?
@MichaelKlements5 күн бұрын
You could definitely make a NAS with the Orange Pi Zero 3 but it would need to be a bit different to this one as it doesn't have a PCIe port on it.

I am trying to create a Camera Board with Raspberry pi 5. The components connected to my Raspberry pi 5 are camera and Battery. I need to record videos. Is there any power banks that I can use to record videos at least for 5 days. Your help or suggestions are very helpful please
@MichaelKlements5 күн бұрын
Raspberry Pi 5's are not really designed for portable battery powered projects, they're not efficient enough. Without knowing too much about the project and camera being used, they use around 4-5W in a typical project, so you'd need a battery of at least 500Wh - which is quite big. That's five times bigger than the Storm 2, which is already a large power bank.
@777sukumar3 күн бұрын
@@MichaelKlements Thank you so much for providing information. That helps to move forward. But Can you suggest any other boards I can use to record videos for this much long(5 days) with portable battery please.

That case is top tier! Looks great and I love the drive sleds. Are the drives hot-swappable with that hat? One small critique: I think the window might be better on the opposite side. That way it's seen from the front of the NAS (the side with the drive activity lights) and also shows the front of the SSDs. Thanks 😎
@MichaelKlements5 күн бұрын
I'm a bit nervous to try hot swapping the drives, the documentation doesn't say that they are - at least not that I've found. Thanks for the suggestions on the window, it would be great to see the activity lights! The main reason it is on that side is because of the fan. There isnt enought room between the wall of the case and the drives for the fan to be on the opposite side so that the window can be swapped around. I could extend the wall out a bit but then the ports won't be flush anymore.

Oh ok- makes sense there's a reason for it being where it is then. Really great design anyway. 👌🏻

@MichaelKlements5 күн бұрын
I've had these running in Pi projects for years without any issues. It's also easy enough to have a cloned card on standby which you can just swap to if one dies.
