Today I'm giving an overview (not a full review) of the IQAir Air Visual Pro... and this device got returned. We purchased this device with our own money in the hopes it would be a great device, but what we found was lackluster. The first red flag for us was IQAir's customer service... or lack thereof. At the time of writing this description, IQAir has not replied to a single email we ever sent. And we sent quite a few for the past many months. Unacceptable.
The next red flag? We unboxed the unit and saw it uses Micro USB. Yes. MICRO USB in 2023. What?! No. When you're spending $299 (over $300 after taxes), seeing Micro USB on a device is not acceptable. This device should be USB-C. At least IQAir included a power adapter and cable in the box. But still, we are saying NO to Micro USB in 2023.
The final red flag was that the CO2 readings were SO FAR off, it wasn't even close. They say to wait a few weeks to calibrate, which we did. It got worse and worse. Further and further off. We compared the CO2 to our Ambient Weather AQIN as well as the Aranet4. Those were within 100ppm of each other. This IQAir device was 300-400ppm low. Basically useless for us. And we could not wait longer for more calibration as we'd be out of the return window.
We had to return this device as we did NOT feel that it was worth the money. We emailed IQAir via the contact form on their website to try to get a resolution for the CO2 issue and NEVER heard back. Not a single reply.
Honestly, there have only been a couple of videos like this that we've made. The other was for Pomabrush which was a horrible experience. This experience was also horrible.
There are MUCH better devices out there. AirThings also has a device. They replied to one of our questions (we do not have their device yet) so at least their customer support replies.
IQAir appears to be overpriced for what you get, in our opinion. It doesn't live up to expectations, and the lack of customer support is abhorrent.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents here. I have two units since 2021 and both are acting weird as for CO2 and Temp/Hummidity levels. I also got Aranet4 and as for CO2 it is always a bit higher. Recently i got another issue wich is drivng me crazy but not that important as CO2 levels indeed. I own a lot of other Temp/Hum sensors but that bloody thing is always 15-20% on top of other ones. After contacting IQAir with the screenshot including 3 other sensors nex to each other and only IQAir was at 78% for humidity and the rest 52/53%. The reply from IQAir was - We use very high presicion sensors in our units and would recommend to rech out Goveee and Aranet! -Are you serious ??? I like the product but CO2 is shifting a lot from 269 CO2 to normal values around 360/400. Yes i did reset device and left outside etc. At the moment it's okish sorta but i lost trust in it. I don not mind paying this price but USB-C would be a bonus indeed iin 2023/2024.

Exactly. I have now 2 Aranets and 1 INKBIRD (video recently posted on channel comparing them) and they’re ALL (3) accurate. The IQAir was WAY off. When I have 3 separate devices and they’re all the same for CO2, and IQAir is off by hundreds, it’s pretty easy to tell where the issue is. The IQAir is trash (in my opinion). Hopefully this video helps people purchase something more worthwhile and accurate.

According to this device, toasting in the kitchen is a hazardous activity. And not only cooking is dangerous, also the vaporizers for the kids can put the room into hazardous levels. Asked them about this and what exactly is the device measuring, but got no answer from them.
@Slimothy
@Slimothy Ай бұрын
It's measuring particles in the air. When you toast a piece of bread, particles are released into the air especially when frying (bacon etc). All of my devices will alert me of this, so this is normal for a device to alert you to it. And technically from what I understand, it's not good to breathe in those particles when cooking, but they usually dissipate quickly if you have a good HVAC system or open some windows. The IQAir was actually pretty decent at detecting those particles, but that's not saying much. Every device I own has been good at it, so it must be pretty easy to detect. Good luck getting a response from IQAir, lol. They're a joke.
@CarlosRamos-uj1qr
@CarlosRamos-uj1qr Ай бұрын
I know about the particles, but what I doubt is about the scale and the colors they use. Any cook in Spain would be already pretty sick of being in hazardous environment. Is also not clear how they determine the color, as far as I know represents the exposition for 24h at the current levels, and they do not have data about effects of short term exposure. In my opinion they make it seem way worst as it is, and I would do the same if my bussines would be about selling masks and filters. But beside the PM2.5, what about the vaporizer that we use when they kids are sick or a humidifier for the house? Are those vapours also hazardous? I do not think so.
@Slimothy
@Slimothy Ай бұрын
@@CarlosRamos-uj1qr Typically, in my opinion, these readings are for long-term exposure. If you're in the red for 5 minutes, it's not so bad. But if your city is in the red like many places over in India, etc, then you're likely going to have a bad time. From my research vaporizers aren't good in many circumstances. Evaporative Humidifiers are OK, the OTHER type of humidifier that shoots tiny particles into the air are not good, from the research I've done. I would only use Evaporative. That might be your problem on why it's causing it to go up, maybe yours isn't evaporative.
@AkilaDJ
@AkilaDJ Ай бұрын
The thing is, the marketing people have no idea about the air pollution, AQI, exposure, etc... If in the kitchen it shows Hazardous, it means if the situation at the moment continues for 24 hours, it is hazardous. In other words, when cooking, PM levels go high. Since we are not always cooking, it is fine... The total exposure that matters... For PM, most of the limits you see are given for 24-hour exposure

IQAir used to sell a $2,000 particle counter that went down to .3 microns but it is not available anymore. Now they have this $300 dollar monitor that provides nice graphs and smiling faces, and a nice interface, etc. But I agree, I don't think it is super accurate either. And Yeah, I've emailed them a few times as well without any reply. I could only interact with them on the phone. Not answering emails is absolutely unacceptable and kind of mind-blowing when you spend $899 for one of their elite air purifiers. Glad to see I'm not the only one being ignored with the emails, lol!😆 Pathetic, actually. Thanks!

I worked at a dealer for IQAir a few years ago as they used to have a North American dealer network consisting of at least 15 companies all over the US. We sold many different products and brands and IQAir was one of many. We would get email and phone inquiries on the IQAir product line on a daily basis and it was one of our 3 most profitable product lines out of over 100 different manufacturers. So, we sold a lot of their stuff. About 4 years ago they got rid of all of their NA dealers and decided to sell directly to the consumers because they had become a well-recognized brand in NA and they didn't feel like they needed dealers anymore. They make a lot more money on the sale of each product by selling directly to the consumer vs. a dealer selling it. We used to sell a ton of IQAir units - mostly the HealthPro Plus as well as, many filter replacements. These transactions sometimes require a decent amount of customer service and even sales support - to make everything go smoothly. The more products you ship - the more C/S you will need, for sure. When I heard they were cutting off all their NA dealers - my first thought was, "Wow! They are going to get hit with a tsunami of sales and C/S requests. They will need to increase their sales and C/S departments by at least double - maybe even triple the amount of people and resources to handle the massive increase in demand that their dealer network won't be supporting anymore. I wonder if they realize this..." Well, it seems they didn't staff up correctly because I had customers calling me and saying they couldn't get through to IQAir right after they made the dealer change (and weeks later, as well). And more recently, I was emailing sales inquiries that were getting ignored. So I am pretty certain they are missing out on THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars in profit every single day by not answering these emails. It is absolutely insane in this day and age that this is happening because we ran the same CRM solution as them and it tells you exactly where the emails go and who takes care of them and what the result is. So, someone in their organization is possibly deleting the emails in batches perhaps because they are still super understaffed and they just can't keep up with the overall demand. These departments tend to prioritize the phone calls over the emails (that's how we operated). And these call center type environments can be super busy and fairly stressful - bang, bang, bang type of environments. You have angry customers calling and emailing every minute - sales inquires every minute and if you are not staffed up correctly it is VERY stressful and difficult to deal with. We had 7 C/S and sales reps. in our environment and we were profoundly understaffed during each and every summer season when our volume would quadruple. Every summer was brutal for everyone in our dept. and we dreaded it.. We would simply try to just "survive" the summer months. So, I am assuming they never staffed up correctly after getting rid of the dealer network and the current staff is "cutting corners" to manage things the best they can. I think I'm gonna blame management on this one as they typically do not want to hire the appropriate number of people to handle the workload. Then they want the understaffed department to somehow "make it work". And this is what you get. @@Slimothy

You have not demonstrated that the PM2.5 on air filter is valid. You are just telling us your preferences. The micro-USB rant is off target at best. Accuracy of measurement is the point. Comparison with what - is gold standard reference is crucial. You have not demonstrated that at all. Oh it’s definitely fair to criticize it. They’re still charging $300 for this junk in 2023. That’s a ripoff. It should have USB-C. And the CO2 should be able to hold the correct value. It was so far off. It was the worst performing CO2 detector we’ve ever tested. And this thing is way more expensive. Make sure you watch the whole video. A PM 2.5 sensor is cheap. You can get a great Levoit air purifier with built in 2.5 sensor for $100. AirVisual sucks IMO. Horrible purchase that’s why we returned it.
