An infrared sensor is an electronic instrument which is used to sense certain characteristics of its surroundings by either emitting and/or detecting infrared radiation. Infrared sensors are also capable of measuring the heat being emitted by an object and detecting motion.There are basically two parts in an ir sensor-one part consists of ir transmitter (Basically Infrared Led circuit) and other is ir receiver(Basically an infrared photodiode circuit and amplifier circuit).Depending upon the arrangement of the transmitter and receiver,we can use it for different types of applications.

Can we replace buzzer with a mini 6v water pump ? I mean can IC withstand about 250 mA current drawn by the pump on load ?

For how much time the sensor can be operated with a 9v battery assuming 20 detections a day.

Actually at depends on your battery Ah . If you want to check the almost exact time then you can do the following- 1.Take one battery with known Ah . The Ah is often written in the battery body. 2..First connect the whole circuit . 3.Assuming the whole circuit as a single resistor connect one ammeter to check the current that the circuit is drawing from the battery(Connect one terminal of the ammeter to the battery and other terminal to the circuit). 4.Observed the current. 5.Apply the formula --- time=Ah/current drawn.(Notice the unit also ) .6.This is the time that the sensor can be operated with the battery.
