This guy keeps mentioning Turkey. Is he lecturing in a Turkish university in the English language in this tape?

Yes it's Bilkent University in Ankara. It has an international reputation, the Scottish historian Norman Stone taught there. Apparently Sean knows Stone, he mentions him in a friendly way.

I enjoyed his lecture, but I recall from my own student teacher instruction that lecturing should not go over 10-15 minutes. Student attentiveness begins flagging after that. I think that if I had been in his class, I would feel frustrated that there was no class participation.

That's probably hard to do because of the camera.

The students seem a bit arms-length from the material. You can see how it might be hard for Turks to engage with it. E.g. at one point Sean innocently asks have you seen "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"? Still a great series. I've lectured myself (in maths). One thing you learn is "students like lectures" -- you are sitting there with your mates, you don't have to do anything right now, the guy up front is basically part of the furniture. Sorry to be cynical
