They seem to have used the Eastern accent for Pashto, which is not the original accent. I wish videos like this would use the Western accent. The Eastern accent completely removes two original sounds and doubles up two others instead. I think it came from slang, to be honest. People who were too lazy to say "zh" and soft "sh" (they double up and use "g" and "kh" for those two sounds, respectively).

1:04 incorrect map. Kurdish Feyli/Laki speaking territories are highlighted as Luri. What is highlighted here as "Kurdish" is almost completely Kurmanji and Sorani. Completely ingoring the other dialects. Zazaki is not a unified language name also. It is only one branch of the wider Zazaki-Kirmancki branch. I for example speak the Dimli accent of the Zazaki-Kirmancki branch. And we are also Kurds. Whoever made that map has a chauvinistic bias.

Pashto also sounds distinct. That is due to influence from its indic neighbors. I imagine the same happened to Ossetian. The influence of its neighbors languages affected it in certain ways. Religion doesn't affect phonology though.

Part of it is because they used the eastern/northern accent, which is not the original Pashto accent! The western accent (spoken in places like Kandahar) sound much more similar to the other Iranian languages. I think Eastern Pashto came from slang, to be honest. Too lazy to pronounce "sh" and "zh." I really don't like the accent. Super confusing to understand, too, because they removed two distinct sounds.

@ꫝarry K Pashto phonology matches Farsi with the exception of the retroflexion of some consonants (which it got from urdu). Because of it’s ancestor bactrian and avestan. The only other main difference is some vowel shifts and that certain constants in farsi are pronounced deeper in the throat. The dialect in this video is a fringe dialect of Pashto that is spoken only in Peshawar (and most of them aren’t fluent either so the “they are majority” some ppl claim doesn’t work. The way the man in the video spoke aside from pronunciation is not correct either). The other accents similar to the one in this video are khost and certain accents by tribes in paktika which legit no pashtun can understand 😂 The best representation is the Kandahari accent.
@SnowLeopard-lt1vf
@SnowLeopard-lt1vf Жыл бұрын
@@alpachino7659 the problem with the peshawari accent is that the majority of its speakers mix a lot of English and Urdu into it. Using a large chunk of vocabulary from completely unrelated languages makes it sound strange and the rest of us Pashtuns have trouble understanding them. On top of that they use Urdu numbers which is weird because why not just use ur own languages numbers?
