I always tell people that if you’re a tire-spinner or “throttle jockey”, a gummy tire won’t work for you. However if you’re smooth, and you use the clutch to “feel” for traction, then a gummy will work wonders for you.
@stevejones6647
@stevejones6647 Жыл бұрын
The colorado desert is not the place for a gummy. However, a gummy is nearly a necessity in other places. Gummy tires can also effectively limit trail damage, since you can get traction instead of simply chainsawing your way up stuff. One other thing, a good quality gummy will have better traction longer, nearly regardless of the tread wear. I run mitas tires and routinely go 50 hrs on a rear tire, so it’s cheaper in the long run to buy a good quality tire, as long as the terrain is appropriate and you have the riding skills to fully exploit the tire you have.

I have smooth inputs and can get close to 30hrs on a JX8, just turn them around at about 15hrs and keep going. I ride with guys (who are slower than me) who will destroy a gummy in 5 hrs while relocating half the dirt in the forest.

If you’re in 3rd and without a doubt in 4th, you’re likely killing your gummy.

My go to tire has been the Tusk Recon since it came out. The thing lasts forever and has great hookup with a plushie nitro mouse on 4 stroke or 2 stroke. Just installed the front recon in a wide and I'm really liking it too, we'll see how it holds up compared to the V35 front I normally run.

Looking forward to the Talon comparison. My early review got a lot of attention courtesy of thumpertalk, people seem to like the Talon a lot. The JX8 looks like it held up better. However, I'm still running the Tusk after 20 hours and I roast the crap out of it in the desert.

Great video, Rich Larson is a great instructor, I've tried gummies in the past (not IRC) and their next to useless on anything loose and off camber because of the weak carcass. My beast tire so far is the Dunlop MX 53 Mid, wet, or dry on intermediate tracks its awesome. But I'm only a muppet anyway

@@highlandcycles Interesting. I ran the VE33S and really liked it. The knobs hade cracks at the base but never lost one riding in Nor Cal. I put a ton of hrs on it at 5-7 psi. We just did a big trip up to Oregon so I thought I would spoon on a new tire for the trip. Yes the JX8. I really didn't notice any area where it worked better and one area that I thought the VE33S felt more predictable ( gravel roads). I was also surprised how much wear I had in 6 days of riding. That said, I am not a fast rider and usually not to hard on tires. Bike is a 21 TE 300i. DT

@@dtrides it is all sooooo dependent on the rider. Fast or not. It’s the way we ride. I know super fast dudes that never wear tires and other ones that Use a new tire every week. Same with slow guys. It’s all about finding the right setup for you.

For hard enduro training I use Tubliss and half of mousse over it. Tried tubes, mousses, Tubliss only, Traxy, but this is the best. Also pros use it. I just cut a bit less than half of inner ring of used mousse away and I make a deep groove in it where the Tubliss can sit in when I set the pressure really low (like 0.2 bar). Had zero flats since (mousse also cushions the hits) and I ride mostly around 0.3 bar. In case of flat, you can ride on on half of the mousse until you fix it with injection. Max grip, adjustable pressure, low cost (Tubliss after 300 hrs like new). Would you try it?
@highlandcycles
