My Iris are done blooming so I am sharing with you the Iris care after blooming that I tackle this week.

There are different ways to do this, I am sharing how I get it done and I have had no problems. And I also share digging up an Iris that is in the wrong spot, you will be able to see just how healthy it is as the mass is huge.

Yes, it is one of mine too! It just captures your eye from far away, especially when the sun hits it.

They are! Many are volunteers and I love the wild look, plus it helps choke out weeds. I just edit out what I don't want or I move some to other areas.

thank you for sharing!!!! this is exactly what I need to do with a crowded clump of beautiful irises my daughter-in-law gave me. additionally thank you for showing how to cut the stems.

Awesome! Thank you! Yes, it can be too messy for some folks but when you plant everything so close to each other it is amazing how it just disappears. Or if it doesn't I let it dry a couple days the kick some soil over it to hide it, if it seems unsightly but mostly I just let it decay on its own and feed the worms.

They are really tough plants and take a lot of abuse but still keep on blooming. If one has not increased well I will not move it until 6 weeks after bloom just to make sure I don't lose it but most of mine get so thick after a couple years I rarely have one like that.

Those flowers were always so pretty but they don’t bloom for very long. Do they do better in the ground other than pots?

No, I wouldn't say so but they are lovely even if brief like daffodils and tulips. Mine bloom for about 3 weeks then other flowers start to bloom and takeover the show.

They do better with maintenance, that is for sure.

Both, I trim back the foliage in Fall when I dig the ones I need to divide and I will cut back some foliage of the others not being moved if I get to it. If not it is no big deal. Then I trim what foliage looks damaged or ugly in Spring as needed.

Thank you so much. I enjoyed your video. Do you have a video on growing Irises in pots? I live in California zone 9b. It’s very hot here. I just got some bare root Irises. I plan to put them in pots. After they bloom do I dig them up to replant for the following year? Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾

I am in the process of making a video on growing bearded Iris in pots. I lived in California 9b for 15 years and grew bearded iris just fine in the garden beds. They do not mind the heat at all and will thrive. In fact one of my favorite iris gardens to purchase rhizomes from is in zone 9b. No you do not need to dig them up until they are ready to be divided and that is typically in approximately 3 years like many perennials.

Can you please tell me what those tall flowers on the left are called? I'm looking for tall flowering plants that are good in zones 7a and 5b, those are beautiful!

my irises have tiny red bugs all over on the leaves. what are they and how do i get rid of them?

First, is there noticeable damage to the leaves? It is hard to say what it is without seeing it and it could be a helpful predatory mite that eats bad bugs which then you would not want to kill it. Is there any webbing present? If so then it could be red spider mites which do post a problem but rarely are they visible. So it is hard to say. You could try spraying them off with a power nozzle. Usually spider mites become a problem in hot dry conditions.

I don't let mine go to seed generally but if I did not dead head they would produce seed pods.

Can you tell me why they stop blooming all of a sudden. What I'm I doing wrong and what do I need to do to get them blooming again.

Like Tulips, Iris bloom for a few weeks to a month in Spring and then they are done for the season. That is their nature. Some are rebloomers but rebloomers do not bloom again until late summer/fall.
