They wouldn't have worked because as Barry told Felicity Smoak in season 1, he doesn't want someone like him. People keep assuming because he's a nerd that means he wants to be with a nerd but he didn't work out with Felicity for that exact reason. He loves that Iris is not like him. I'm actually confused as to why people would even ship Caitlin and Barry. I mean, she was never on his radar to begin with. She was more like a buzzkill older sister to Barry and Cisco. Barry had even more chemistry with Cisco than Caitlin.

OMG, I agree. I thought she was cute but to whinny and controlling like Kaitlin. When Kaitlin talks to barry it's mostly about her or what she think Barry can't do, never what he can do. Cisco is always telling her Barry can do it. Cisco believes in him like Iris does.

Okay? Patty's character experienced no growth or development because of it. At the end of the day, she is still a plot device, much like Eddie before her in season 1. She is a means to keep Barry and Iris apart. What little effort they put in bringing Patty Spivot to life, she became little more than an afterthought after her departure. I think the last time she was even mentioned was in 2x14 and that wasn't even Earth 1 Patty. With that said, now that Barry is finally with the "coworker of his dreams", they do show parallels (like the ones shown in this video) to compare how different Barry and Iris' relationship is considerably different from any potential love interests they've had before.
