A low cost (and potentially equally useless to the kite) thing you could try for starlings would be to put up a couple of owl houses on trees near the houses. If you managed to get an owl into the yard it would catch some and scare away more of them.

If your scrapes are anything like mine they’ll be very worn out and theirs spaces in between the track and the concrete and they wear away after ab10 years of use, i welded 4 mm plate on to lift them up and they work all the time now and if it doesn’t swith over at the end weld a metal rod on the under side ofthe main scraper to lift it up a few mm and itll work a treat, we have them in our dairy barn and I’ve done more welding on them than the factory.

I've the same problem with 3 scrapers pushing into an open slurry pit with dairy cows. Some waste of time with milking cows during the spring. They'd be rotten. I've put up with it long enough and slurry channels is the only job I reckon. At least it'll never build up if electricity is gone or in the hard frost 10 years ago ,the scrapers froze solid and 4 days of 100 cows dung built up. Some balls to get going again.

Fragrance free Poo! That's a result it itself. Cattle love those cow brushes, great viewing watching them use it. Just set up the camera and let them entertain us, I reckon the bulls would be mad for it. Loft is looking great in the workshop. It might not feel like you have achieved much but those were some big winter projects and in a short space of time so I think you can mark that up as a success.

On the other hand, have you ever seen a starling murmuration, a remarkable phenomenon, check it out on KZfaq. I agree with you about the straw blower and the dust, it couldn't be great. Hi, We farm in the NOS and many years ago we had a massive starling problem every beam in the shed and trusses were covered in Starlings. I got so frustrated one day I got my sledge hammer and began to hammer one of the main supports the noise in the shed was amazing as the whole shed started to vibrate. The starlings went crazy flying into the walls etc trying to escape from the shed next day there were half the number of starlings, I did it again and the next day there were 10% of the starlings, I did it again and that was like 20 years ago and I have never seen a starling in the shed since and they do not even land on the shed roof. It may be worth a try with your problem, I was really mad and fed up with them so I did really whack the standcions of the shed. Regards, Peter Williamson
@Achingills1
@Achingills1 3 жыл бұрын
I should have stated that I did this when it was dark and there were no animals in the shed (except starlings nad maybe rats). The problem had been so bad that it was known locally in the farming community and a farmer asked me many years later how I solved the starling problem.
