In todays episode of Cocktails with Ciara, I'm finally making and drinking a White Russian cocktail for the first time! The big Lebowski is one of my all-time favourite movies and so I knew I would have to try out The Dude's favourite cocktail, so today's the day to do it!
✨ Ingredients ✨
30ml or 60ml of Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur
30 ml vodka (optional)
Top with fresh milk or milt alternative
✨ How to make a White Russian Cocktail ✨
Add ingredients to a tumblr with ice, stir and serve
More info: The White Russian Cocktail was invented in 1949 when Gustave Tops, a Belgian barman, created the cocktail, along with its sister cocktail, the black Russian - a White Russian without any cream - at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels in honor of Perle Mesta, then U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg.

The recipe I have used since I was of drinking age, long before the movie, is 60ml vodka, 60 ml coffee liqueur (Kahlua, Pasha or Tia Maria) and 60 ml half and half. To make the drink, place one large cube like Ciara did, then add the coffee liqueur, second, the vodka, followed by the half and half. DO NOT STIR OR SHAKE. Serve the cocktail unmixed. The drink will show three distinct layers. The dark coffee liqueur on the bottom, the clear vodka in the center and the half and half floated on the top. The person consuming the cocktail mixes it.

In the US, half and half is the diary to use for sure. Cream is too much fat, milk, not enough. Half and Half is a great balance of creamy sweetness. It is basically 1/2 whole milk and half heavy cream so if you can't buy it you can easily make an approximation at home. I don't know what the equivalent outside the us is called though.

First time I’d ever heard of a White Russian was in the movie 48 hrs, with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte. The bartender asks Eddie: What’re ya drinkin’? A BLACK Russian?” Then I looked it up and found the White Russian too. BTW, @4:00 you said you didn’t know if there had been such an overnight change in a cocktails popularity. But in the early 60’s, the martini was dying out and was expressly made by stirring. Then Dr. No hit theaters. The vodka martini rocketed in popularity, but it also changed the way the drink was made. Shaking, rather than stirring, became the rule instead of the exception. So Big Lebowski may have made the White Russian popular, but James Bond changed the way a martini was made. Which does just prove your point that movies have a HUGE influence on us.

Here's a drink I make which is really nice 1. Brew strong coffee, pour in an ice tray and freeze into cubes. 2. Put a couple coffee cubes in a glass, pour kalhua, oat milk and a bit of vodka on top. Don't know any measurements, but I guess it would be more kahlua than vodka but less kahlua than oat milk. 3. You can even strain a bit of cocoa on top 4. Reward

I use a recipe that approximates a White Russian that I had in New York City several decades ago. Basically 30 ml vanilla infused vodka, 30 ml coffee liquor (I like a less sweet version too) 45 ml light cream, and a small scoop of French vanilla ice cream (yellowish and very rich). Shake vigorously and serve over ice.

My recipe: 35 ml Stoli vanilla vodka + 35 ml Kahlúa into the glass with a big rock of ice, stir a few times. Then shake 30 ml whole milk + 30 ml heavy cream together without ice. Once half whipped layer on top of the drink to create an airy float on top. Enjoy without stirring or combining.

Bottom shelf handle vodka + whatever was in the coffee pot from earlier that morning + a squirt of breast milk (because moo-cow f*ck milk wasn't on the shopping list). Shaken because you just stepped on a Lego. No ice, just scrape freezer snow from the freezer. It's all in a dirty tippee cup. Extra points if you use the tippee top. ENJOY

Well done video. Had my first White Russian in 1999, at a karaoke bar in Dallas- Ft Worth. Never saw The Big Lebowski, but for some reason I had heard of it and ordered one. My friends and I enjoyed them since. If I have it, I make them with Kahlua (plus vodka), otherwise milk, sugar and vodka.
@kassjames5301
@kassjames5301 3 жыл бұрын
In the bar where I used to work, we used to make a White Russian with: 5cl Luksusowa Vodka (because it's a reasonably priced potato vodka and has that sweet after taste), 2cl Tia Maria (Because it's made with rum instead of the vodka base), and 4cl of half and half. The Tia Maria really brings a different complexity to the classic drink, and is less sweet than the traditional kahlua but more sweet than something like Mr Black. I do recommend trying it (even if it's now made in Italy and not Jamaica and doesn't use Blue Mountain beans). Still, Mr Black is a solid liquor that stands on it's own rather than as a mixer. Makes a magnificent Irish Coffee with Read Breast Cask Strength as well.

I follow this one style I saw where they took whipping cream and shook it up to like a cake batter consistency and then slowly poured it on top over the back of a spoon. In a really nice glass it makes the White Russian look extra glam. And it’s fun to have that thicker cream on top that leaves a little mustache too!
