A lot of the recent migrants to Ireland are economic migrants. They are getting free accommodation, medical cards, and free transport to name just a few of the benefits.

I used to volunteer with a charity helping asylum seekers in the NE of England. I was chatting to one from the Ivory Coast and asked his routing to the UK. He had come through various countries and finally France before the UK. Asking what he had done that week he said he was busy attending English classes. I was intrigued and asked, as he came from the Ivory Coast he would speak fluent French. He confirmed that he did speak French. So, I asked, why did you come to the UK when you could stop in France where, as a French speaker, he had more opportunity? His reply, and I quote, "The French would not give us accomodation and money". I have since stopped assisting the charity. It's not the threat of Rwanda that stops them, it's the free accomodation and benefits that attract them.

The past has nothing to do with it. Culturally the Irish are like the English. But these migrants are not

Im sick of indivuals making comparisons with Greek, Irish, Italian immigrants. They were/are law abiding, contribute constructively and naturally assimilate to the countries they move to.

This whole situation can be stopped at source with the stroke of a pen - no benefits until you have lived in the country and contributed to taxes for 5 years, and council houses for only people from the local area. If there is no free money there is no incentive and they will not come. Simple.

I live in a town in the Mid-West of Ireland, semi-rural, and believe me, a house being sold for €300,000 is nothing compared to the prices here. A one bedroom house just sold for €430,000 not so long ago, and that was considered a "bargain" price down here. The price of your house doesn't mean you're rich here in Ireland anymore, it just means you're enslaved to the new 50 year mortgages that are being hailed as "revolutionary in their affordability" by the banks/estate agents. Also, the migrant problem is rampant here, too, and they are now closing down community centres and tourist hostels, forcing small shops to close their businesses too, so they can all be converted into immigrant housing centres. The Irish have over 100,000 Irish FAMILIES homeless right now, and over 85,000 illegal immigrants already here, yet the immigrants are getting priority housing, as Leo Varadkar told them, "Give us your vote, and we'll give you a house and free money" to ensure the coalition government of Fine Gael/Fianna Fail win the next general election. Then Varadkar committed political suicide in front of the world's cameras after losing the Family Referendum (Where our government wanted to remove the words "Mother" and "Family" from our Constitution), by saying the government lost the vote because the Irish people were too stupid to be able to vote the way they'd been TOLD to vote. Not long after that, our screens were filled with the "shocking" resignation of Varadkar as leader of his party and our country, only for him to reappear a few days later, overlooking his new unelected post in the European parliament. The rich Liberals are spared the sight of immigrants living in their elite communities, but the poor are forced now to share their homes with them, under the wonderful integration scheme/initiative our government have brought in. Oddly enough, our President has a huge 92 room, tax-payer funded mansion in Dublin, where only he and his wife live (And a huge. spacious mansion in his home constituency left empty while he lives in Dublin), yet he won't allow any immigrants to share his home for "security reasons," while our government are telling entire families to sleep in their living rooms while immigrants use their bedrooms to live in. Our President did allow two Ukrainian refugees to stay for two weeks (A doctor and a scientist, no less, not some average Joe's from the poor classes among the refugee community), but later our government PAID for most Ukrainian refugees to go home for Christmas to be with their families, while still telling us that the war in Ukraine had left them homeless. Most European countries capped the numbers of refugees/immigrants at just 25,000, while the Irish government just kept on allowing more and more to come into the country, just to appease the EU, leaving many small Irish communities overwhelmed with non-English speaking people swamping their towns, a huge burden on the tax-payers who have to pay for these immigrants' rent/food etc, and homeless Irish families being told they'll have to wait decades before they even get a foothold on the housing list.

The ordinary English public are looking on in horror at what is happening in Ireland, Scotland, Wales as well as at home ,whatever happens in any of your countries will have a knockon effect with all off us ,keep fighting, we are all in the same boat (sorry)

I went to Dublin last spring. We were trying to find someone Irish to point us in the right direction of the Guinness Factory. Well, it took longer to find someone who we could understand rather than find where we wanted to go. Bit like England. It's crazy. We're being taken over.

Irish emigrated during famine times but never got anything for free in whatever country they ended up in.

The Irish emigrated lawfully, They expected nothing and got nothing except being treated like sh*t in many cases,. However, they worked their arses off and contributed meaningfully everywhere they went. They did not try to change other people's cultures. Rather they assimilated. Plus, have a look at Irish history and the 800 years of occupation by the British. The Irish migrants are in no way comparable to a lot of what is coming over on the boats. Just to be clear, I do not include those people who are genuinely fleeing from horrific situations.

The Irish government sent invitations all around the Developing World inviting migrants to come to Ireland with a promise of "own door accommodation". Thousands have made their way to Ireland to take up that offer, using the UK as a land bridge to the Republic. It is very sly and disingenuous to now blame the British for a mess that the Irish government facilitated and encouraged.

Is the UK and Ireland supposed to take in the world changing our cultures forever? Politicians in the UK and Ireland are to blame for the whole lot of this!

It's the same in Germany. I know a family if immigrants who have 8 kids. For each kid they get 250 € plus rent and utility bills are paid. The parents get 1000 € between them. They don't pay health insurance either or taxes or pay into the pension scheme....work it out😡

However, the news that migrants are crossing from Northern Ireland into the Republic has sparked an outcry in the country, and prompted the government in Dublin to announce they are planning emergency legislation to send asylum seekers back to Britain. This will be interesting to see unfold because If Ireland can bring in emergency legislation? Then why can't the UK so these "Asylum Seekers" can be sent back to France.
