More Information:
A bunch of our Irish buddies wanted to chow down on some snacks they normally don't get their hands on, so we found loads of them on the internet but originally from South Africa and we gave them to them to eat. They were very tough to chew.

South African here. Lunch bars are fine, fizzers are fine, I don't eat them often, Nik Naks are good. Soak your rusks always. Ouma rusks are notoriously harder than some of the other rusks we get here. Too bad you didn't do biltong it's pretty much a staple I'd say.

I've watched this video like 10 times. The Irish are such legends that even when they throw shade at your food it's obviously done with out looking down on your or with disgust that you can't help but just cry with laughter and see it as friendly banter. I won't lie when I went to Ireland for the first time in 2012. I fell I love with the place. Especially the small towns like Dargle. Its the first place outside SA that I've been to that I was like I could live her for a couple years. Ive been to the UK 3 times. Can't stand the people. I've been to Scotland twice loved it but there is just something amazing about Ireland and I deff think it's got a lot to do with the people. They so warm and friendly and caring and funny.

You have to leave the rusk soaking for a bit in your tea or coffee, is the point. Rusks are twice-baked, but Ouma rusks are taken too far on the second bake, I think. Whenever I make rusks, I don't actually twice-bake them so much as leave them in the oven to dry out at 50 degrees C overnight - with a wooden spoon propping open the oven door, to let the moisture out. I am glad that you guys liked the NikNaks, though. Still one of my favourite snacks to this day. Actually, I had a pack of them yesterday, now that I think about it. Ha.

A new Sunday morning cartoon show, kind of a cross between "Saved by an Angel" and "Scooby Doo Where Are You?" . "Irish Jesus Doobie Doo" perhaps. Each week the cast: Shaggy Irish, Doobie Doo, Paddy, Norma Jean the Termite Queen, and Priscilla (Queen of Desserts) drive around in a used Pope Mobile solving mysteries of the Faith.

The nostalgia from this video.... I'm South African ex pat in a country where they don't stock our things. And when we do find our luxuries it's expensive! I haven't had Nik Naks in nearly a year, and I never have the money to order biltong or drywors by an expat who makes it here. This just made me miss home so much!
