Behind the video :
American sandwiches are pretty hard to come by in Ireland.... But we hear how good they are all the time. We asked our friends at the Pig and Heifer restaurant in Dublin to rustle us up some authentic American sandwiches. Our guys very kindly taste tested them.

@Flick The Reuben sandwich originated from Omaha, Nebraska, by a guy named Reuben Kulakofsky. He was Lithuanian, but the man made the sandwich here on American soil. But it does use some Ingredients that would make you think that it's German. Especially the sauerkraut it has on it which is fucking delicious 😋 and very healthy for you, I might add. Sorry for the little history lecture, I just really enjoy the sandwich 😂.

maninredhelm I'm well aware. Personally, I use jam and preserves, but considering it's a taste test of American sandwiches, one would logically assume that the American vernacular is going to be used, especially when it's part of the name of the sandwich.

EpicRAWRRR You're not keen on reading, are you? You basically just told me my point wasn't logical... and then agreed with it. I pretty emphatically said that the Americans were just fine using the term that is correct in their vernacular, so disagreeing with me is basically saying that everything DOES have to have the same name. Your comment, then, is fallacious.

+88michaelandersen I don't know about you but making either jelly or jam is totally different. In the U.S. anyway as jelly is usually more of a jell consistency while jam is made with whole fruits without any jell so in the U.S. jam is more of a pulp spread.
@88michaelandersen
@88michaelandersen 8 жыл бұрын
IloveJell0 I have never made jelly (US), but I do make strawberry jam. I was just explaining that in the UK, jelly means gelatin, and the UK does not distinguish between what Americans call jelly and what they call jam. Basically, if you ask for jelly on your toast in the UK, you will get a piece of toast with a piece of Jell-0 on it. And some weird looks.

I prefer white American cheese on my cheesesteak with fried onions, along with a sprinkle of oregano and black pepper and a squirt of ketchup&mayo! And the roll should be warm, soft and lightly toasted.

Jam and Jelly are both made from fruit and canned, however, Jelly is a clear fruit spread while Jam is usually a product made with whole fruit (including seeds) which is usually crushed. Jam has pulp while jelly has juice. I loved putting my dad's raspberry/blackberry jam on vanilla ice cream, he used very little sugar so it still tasted of fruit and they went together really well.
