The Sarsaparilla root that used to be the root in root beer was replaced with sassafras. Unfortunately sassafras root is used in medicine in the rest of the world so, everyone immediately tastes like they are drinking medicine and “hates” the flavor because they associate it with being ill.

@@qwertyuiopz123 Both can get you sick but the flour is more likely to get you sick compare to eggs and not because its unsanitary. Flour got a lot of natural bacteria in it and when eating too much cases stomach aches. For eggs, the inside is 100% safe to eat raw. It's the outside you have to worry about. If the protect coating on the egg surface is broken or shell is cracked, bacteria and stuff can get inside the egg. Good news your chance of getting sick is very slim to none with all the preventive measure they companies took to make sure it does not happen. I've made a bunch of batter from scratch and never got sick after eating it. Only ones that need to worry are people with weak immune systems.

Lol.. When we went to restaurants, like a local coffee shop, there was always in the desert case, slices of cakes or pies, and different flavors of pudding and banana pudding was one of them. I still see it made or sold to this day. I still see banana pudding or the banana cream pies at family get togethers or church potlucks. It’s not a culture thing, it’s just an American favorite. For Kyeong Yeon: There are American desserts that are made with tart fruits, so there is a tart/sweet thing going on when you eat them....Key Lime Pie, Lemon Meringue Pie, Cherry Pie, any dessert with citrus fruits (for instance, cheesecakes made with oranges or lemons), whole fruit popsicles usually have a little tartness. You can make cakes that aren't too sweet also, with before-mentioned fruits or fruit and nuts together (banana bread is one).

You don't need to insult us 😭 The S'more is not something you eat all the time. It's like a camping/outdoors snack because you roast the marshmallow over a fire. Most Americans will have fond memories of eating them in their youth! I'm sad they didn't like the cookie dough, but if your society isn't used to it, then it makes sense that they wouldn't like it. This is probably one of the first reactions from abroad that I've seen that seemed to have a well-informed research department based on what they chose. Y'all could totally do a part 2 if you wanted. It's a roadtrip desert (meaning you eat from your car while driving) but I'd love to see Peanuts in Coke reacted to. Even many american's don't know about it because it's regional to the state of Georgia, and mostly from the 1940's and 50's. But all you do is take a sleeve of salty roasted peanuts (8-10 ounces I think), get a 16oz. bottle of Coke, open and drink some of the coke to make room (just above the label), and then pour in the bad of peanuts. It'll get salty foam. And you just drink/eat it immidiately. 80 years ago Georgia was basically all farming communities, and we still grow MOST of the peanuts in America. So there were a lot of extra peanuts all the time. Coke is also from Georgia, so that was on hand as well. So this drink was enjoyed outside because you could carry around the bottle while you were working. And modern day, you eat/drink it with one hand while you are driving everywhere.

I found the negative reaction to cookie dough to be an interesting cultural difference. For Americans, cookie dough is a taste that takes us back to childhood memories of helping our mothers or grandmothers in the kitchen and licking the mixer batons afterwards. Also, I feel that eating cookie-dough started as a joke in American movies and American television programs. Cookie dough was eaten by characters that were either broken-hearted or too lazy to bother with baking. It had a negative connotation but eventually it became its own place as a dessert. Rather than eating straight up I recommend having some cookie dough ice cream instead. Thanks, Katchup for bringing joy to people everywhere!

This is a first I've heard about coke float. Root beer float is quite popular and familiar for most people. Pumpkin pies are not made from large pumpkins used to carved for Halloween. Pumpkin pies are usually made from smaller pumpkins, and mostly eaten on Thanksgiving, not Halloween. My kids prefer s'mores during camp. It's nostalgic. My kids enjoy toasting their marshmallows at the camp fire. Like everyone have said, caramel apple is better to slice in quarters and then eat it. The only thing I don't like about it is the apple gets soggy from the caramel after awhile. By the way, that's a lot of cookie dough. I personally don't eat raw cookie dough. Now, these desserts are not eaten on a daily basis. Most of these are eaten during a season or an event/occasion. Apple pies and pumpkin pies are usually eaten during Thanksgiving, s'mores during (summer) camp, caramel apple at the fair, root beer floats can be made at home anytime, etc.

The caramel apple is meant to be cut and not to be had all at once. 😂 I'm not a fan of desserts, but when I do have one, it's Lemon Meraign (spelling?) Pie.

Caramel apples are difficult to eat. You also have to use the right apple. Granny Smith are probably one of the better apples for it. They are smaller and more tart than others so it goes better with the sweet caramel.

No Peach cobbler, Pecan Pie, or Strawberry Cheesecake??? And Nanner puddin without Nilla Wafers??? Why it's un-American to not have those. Couldn't have been a real American making these choices.

As an American, if you thought Caramel Apples were hard to bite, try a candied apple. It's almost completely hardened candy around an apple. One bite and you'll probably lose a tooth.

That was horrifying. My brother worked at an aquarium when he was 17, and he loved their octopus. She'd slink over to be petted when he brought her food, and clasp his arm so that he'd stay with her longer.

Rather than apple pie, I grew up with apple crisp. Growing up in Iowa, my mom would use the apples off of the tree we had in our backyard - amongst my favorite memories of my mom, may she rest in peace.

Apple pie is a staple American dessert, but we actually stole it from the Dutch! So, there are two versions of apple pie! Americans adopted their own version, derived from Dutch settlers way back in the colonial days! It’s such an American staple, during World War II, soldiers would say “for mom and apple pie” implying they are fighting for their mothers and freedom (as America is represented by apple pie, and America equals freedom).

Growing up in the US, my family would often go camping out in the woods. Part of the experience was toasting marshmallows over the fire and making s'mores. However, I didn't like the marshmallows and would just eat all the graham crackers and chocolate instead. Needless to say, my parents were not happy being left with only a bag of marshmallows. 😂

Apple & pumpkin pie are staples at holiday feasts, if you were to try another pie I'd suggest pecan pie. I never eat cookie dough on its own but in vanilla ice cream it's pretty good Caramel apples are one of those foods you might see at a state fair, I don't think it's something people have very often. Coke float would definitely be a root beer float in America, but I've come to understand root beer is not a well liked flavor outside of the USA, so doing coke instead makes sense. I also like it with orange soda, orange & cream is another flavor combination we have (Orange creamsicle popsicles)

I am from NY and ice cream floats are no longer popular. It's really rare to see someone drink one. It was popular about 50 years ago. Cookie doe is usually a thing that is added to something else, like cookie dough ice cream, or maybe donuts? Could eat it alone, but I don't think many people would. Smores...are really best when you char the marshmallow a little over hot coals. Got to be careful because you want them to be hot enough to very soft, but not to burn your mouth. You won't enjoy the marshmallow if it gets cold and chewy. Nobody really eats caramel apples. They look iconic, but most people just try them once. If you like it, then it's better just to dip apple slices into heated caramel. Last, I have enjoyed some time in Korea and would love to do so again some day. I love the Korean food!

The candy or caramel apples - I usually cut my up in order to eat it... Otherwise it is hard to bit in to... And the pumpkin pies are more of an northern state dessert - while in the southern states it's sweet potatoes. And, also - many dessert go by region/state...

I think sometimes their understanding of American foods could be better. Several of these I won't even call a Dessert mainly the Float, the Caramel Apple, Cookie Dough, and the S'mores as those can be seen more as snacks not something eaten after a meal. Plus, Root Beer floats are way more common then using something like Coke, but Root Beer seems to be unpopular outside of the US. Also, not sure if that was proper Cookie Dough or not, as there is a difference. As for the Caramel Apple, you can eat it off the stick, but I would have cut it up as its a lot easier to eat. Oh the S'mores is also questionable with the cracker/cookie they used, but understandable about not liking marshmallow or American chocolate.

I used to make coke floats with chocolate ice cream. It disgusted my family members which was part of the charm. We usually have pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It more likely to be made out of canned pumpkin than a fresh pumpkin. Lot of people just buy them at the store. My sister makes her apple pie from fresh apples instead of apple pie filling and it is a million times better than store bought.
