A stroopwafel is a wafer cookie made from two thin layers of baked dough joined by a caramel filling. We got sent some stroopwafels with different filling flavours so we dished these Dutch doughy discs out to our TRYers for them to try these Dutch treats!

Keep them on a cup of coffee for a few minutes for them to soften up. They taste even better. Caramel ones are the real ones by the way. Also, prepare for all my fellow dutchies to swarm the comments!

What i also do sometimes when they go a bit stale, and they get too dry, is pop them in the microwave for a few secs, be careful not to melt your face off though :D

pro advise from someone living for 10 years in the netherlands: put 1 stroopwaffle on top of a cup with hot tea or coffee. the caramel than melts :))) 50% more delicious :D!!!!!!!!

Here's a bit of trivia: the "stroop" in "stroopwaffle" means "syrup," so it's a syrup waffle. The same word is in "blackstrap molasses"-"blackstrap" means "black syrup."

@@michaelrg3836 It's weird because "blackstrap" is an Americanism and not a terribly old one. Maybe it comes from the New York area where other Dutch words became popular. Stoop, cookie, coleslaw, booze, quack, Yankee, boss, etc came from the Dutch.

Bourbon Vanilla is a type of Vanilla, contains no bourbon. Sad, but true. Now, somebody needs to make Stroop Waffles with groovy filling flavors - like real bourbon, or chocolate.

Oh my Lord, these are absolutely the most addictive treats there are! Take your cup of hot coffee or tea, and place the stroopwaffle over top of it for about a minute. The hot steam will get the caramel inside are nice and gooey and create an even better experience!

First off: Impressed with Dermot's ability to pronounce stroopwafel. Secondly, most of us Dutchies don't even know there are that many flavours. Lastly: Fresh ones from a market stand are still the absolute best, I really recommend trying that if you're ever in the Netherlands!

Here in Rhode Island we have a strip club called the Foxy Lady and every Friday they open at 5:30 am and serve breakfast to the 3rd shift guys and it’s called Leggs and Eggs. It was the BEST shift to work. The only music played is hard rock.

Im not gonna lie: I've never known there are more flavours to stroopwafels other than Caramel (og flavour) and honey. Besides that brand isn't even that popular in the Netherlands. Id say Jumbo (supermarket chain) has the best stroopwafels followed by Albert Heijn (another supermarket)

Me and my mom got introduced to these a few years ago on a plane flight to chicago. Couple months passed and we started to find them in places like Ross and Marshalls, everytime we went there we always bought a caramel flavored pack and to this day we have been buying them

Tom had it right, when you put the hot water in your tea, while it's steeping, you put the stroopwaffel on top and it gets all melty and gooey and warm! Then they're wonderful!!

Indeed the vendor is the best! These examples pale in comparison. Being a Dutchie we tend to stay away from prepackaged stroopwafels like these, unless it’s directly from a bakery. Especially Daelmans, eek!…I think that is meant for the international market. Even the name is commercialized/Americanized for international purposes. The Dutch name would be Daalmans. FYI maple sirup in a stroopwafel is just not right and the furthest from what stroop is. I love TRY but they missed the mark on this one.

I think the issue may that BRAND of Stroopwaffles. That looks like the same box I have in front of me now, Daelmans, and I strongly dislike them too. But I've had other brands I've loved.

Had these on a flight once and loved them so much the attendant gave me extras to take with me. Once I got home, someone sent me boxes of them. The most joyous delivery ever.

So you're tasting a whole bunch of stroopwafels, and none of them have actual stroop in them? I've seen "caramel" before, but the others? Never in my life have I encountered those. And I've lived my entire life, almost 40 years now, in the Netherlands. You guys should really come over and try a fresh stroopwafel from the market, still warm from the wafel iron and filled with gorgeous actual stroop. On a positive note: Dermot, 100 points for your pronunciation of the word!!!!!

Is mapel syrup not the same as "stroop"?

@@landonboyd3001 nope. "Stroop" is basically a thick molasses, made from (cane)sugar. Caramel is burned sugar, maple syrup is condensed tree sap, obviously from maple trees.

The stroop in stroopwaffles is a diffrent kind of stroop then you put on your toast. Its kitchen stroop. When they make stroop out of sugerbeets you can make diffrent kinds of stroop with it. One of them is sugarstroop( the one you put on toast). To get kitchen stroop you add a bunch of glucose to some sugarstroop and you get kitchenstroop. My sister grabs a few packs of these each time she has a layover in Amsterdam (couple of times a year) and we always enjoy relieving her of them when she gets home. My favorite is... I don't recall the exact flavor but it's something like "dark spice." But all of the ones I've tried have been very yummy.

I would get these at a national bookstore chain at their cafe to go with my coffee and when they we’re going out of business I bought all 200 they had left.

Back when I was working retail in a garden store we had a dutch manufacturer of plant pots that always used to hide a pack of these somewhere on their pallet. Was the only pallet people fought over to unpack.

Because of this video, when I went to World Market today, I bought a package of maple stroopwafels. When I got out of the store, my friend and I tried one... Needless to say, we went back in the store and bought another box each. YUMMM!!

There’s also a ‘device’ they sometimes attach to the packaging that fits the top of a mug to suspend a waffle over a hot brew, so it softens.
