Jacksonville faced its worst flooding in nearly a century as Irma brought rain and record storm surge before moving north to dump rain on Georgia and South Carolina.

I live in Georgia and luckily we just had what seemed like severe thunderstorms and heavy winds no damage to my house or family or any neighbors, only lost power for a few hours. My condolences to those who lost family members, friends or anyone who was injured.

exactly. when you have an entire country run on the ideal of infinite growth and earnings human concerns kind of take a back seat to profits. we should look to the english model maybe, i love the way they handle advertisements. You literally have to spell it out to people that they are watching an ad paid for by whoever.

Kathy Riedinger I know, it was so bad. I took a video of it a few days after the waters had receded some and several homes had their furniture and belongings outside on the road from the flooding. Sad, St Augustine is such a old city with all those historical homes.

I can't believe the airline had flights yet..... unreal! No way would I have gotten on a plane down there! I feel so sorry for all the people who were affected by this storm! The flooding does more damage than the actual storm does! All we can do is pray for the recovery of some normalcy in their lives and also, donate to help. And let's not forget Texas, too. They still need our help!

I cannot wrap my head around why after having 200 years of experience with hurricanes, Americans build their homes out of cardboard and have all their electrical infrastructure above ground. The cumulative cost of this over the years is orders of magnitude higher than the cost of building stuff properly once.
@davidbarnett93126 жыл бұрын
Or Americans who built great cities along the ring of fire, and that includes Cali, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. Add to that folks who built towns and cities in the notorious tornado alley. Then we have people who have vacation homes that periodically get destroyed by noreasters.
@julieclemons67016 жыл бұрын

I live in Jacksonville Florida. And I was hit by this hurricane. I actually had a baby at that time. And I didn’t have power for over a week. And that was in the middle of the summer. Luckily, I was proactive and made sure that I had food and things for my son and lights. Unfortunately, the fans that I had ordered did not make it before the storm. And they only arrived after. But it was so hot, I was sweating and I was really scared for my baby because I was already hot and he was itty-bitty. But unlike others I did not fault the electric company because I saw how hard they were working and even one lineman lost his life trying to restore peoples power, the people that were constantly complaining about not having power. I kept trying to tell people to stop complaining, and that they will get their power back as soon as they possibly could because the electric companies were working as hard as they could. And companies from other states came to help. And complaining I was not going to make it go any faster. But of course nobody listens. And they still want to complain. And it’s sad that a man lost his life, trying to restore peoples power that were complaining and saying that it wasn’t happening fast enough. This man’s family, lost a father, a brother, a son, a nephew, a cousin, etc. It’s just sad that not only him, but other people lost their lives while trying to restore power to people here in Florida during the storm. All because people are so entitled that they want to have their power back immediately and not caring about other peoples safety. Even though I had a young baby, and I knew I wasn’t comfortable, and that he was uncomfortable, I would have given my uncomfortability to see if somebody else’s life. I would’ve never wanted to have my comfort over somebody else’s life. And unfortunately, during that storm multiple people lost their lives while trying to restore power to us.
