IW 207 apprentice I've been blessed to work with some very experienced ironworkers. Just in that short video I learned a few things. You guys make it look easy.

How does the crane operator know how to place the initial piece of iron? From the video it looks like he/she can tell the exact placement. Wouldn’t it be cool if the operator could see through your camera?

Most operators were formerly on the steel. Most of them have great depth perception and can tell how the piece will fit judging by size and location. And a bond is formed between connectors and operators that allows them to work together almost effortlessly

@@anthonymaggio3626 stop talking out of your ass, these are Union Ironworkers and the crane operator belongs to the United Brotherhood of Union Operating Engineers and has never been on the iron and if you notice the guy on the iron below them has a radio and is signaling the operator,a lot of times they will not have a third guy to signal and one of the connectors will have the radio

Just curious, why are the beams getting screwed on with bolts facing up and why are they being attached from the bottom like 5:30 ?

You put bolts facing out and up so if they loosen up they either bind up or fall out so they can be seen if they need to be replaced

You put the bolts with the nuts up so you can get an impact gun on them. R D local 25 ironworker retired

Why do you guys only put two bolts in? instead of all of them?

Beard The Men connectors gotta move fast. Their job is to put up the iron as fast as possible so you put two bolts in snug em up. Make them safe. Then a detail gang will come through and put the rest of the bolts in
