The unflippable rc boat is a long term project we'll be working on, it may work it may not.. None the less it should be fun. I highly encourage my viewers to give their opinions and thoughts on this project, I'm all ears and open to suggestions. BGFL

Great idea brother! I've been sharing it around all over. Just an FYI, the part with the copper is an armature and the flywheel actually has what would be field coils but they are actually just permanent magnets built into it, that's what those bars are inside.

Using a gimbal mount will allow the boat to rotate around the gyro. The gyro will remain level but the boat will be able to flip because there will be no resistance on any axis. I think that hard mounting the gyro “flat” may give you the best result. When the gyro is powered this should give you resistance form flipping over, but not impede the horizontal axis, or the side to side movement of turning. All that said, mono hulls need to lean into a turn. Your best bet is to go ahead and mock it up in the Blackjack 42” since catamarans turn flat. I hope this might be helpful.

That's a really crazy brilliant idea 😀 and looks really good. I hope you try it out in the Jetstream too 🤗 but I think if you build a gimbal for the gyrosystem the effect could be canceled out again 🤔since everything can move freely around the gyro. but only one try makes sense😉

Marine grease would go a long way on the O rings and plastic shaft holder. Heck of an idea! My Spartan could use this.

Seems like you have a idea that’s worth experimenting. Now I wonder how this would work in the stream jet. I’ve seen gyros used in big boats. Now if you can get the gyro in a 3 point axis and retest would be interesting to see how it works brother. Keep it going and I’m interested in this experiment

I have a promoto and from experience the flywheel motor dont like water fried mine second time out after running through small puddle so make sure its watertight one dropof water will fry the motor and esc that said awesome work bro

Your genius man 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Use an external bec for the flywheel. So you don't need a second battery and save weight. And when you use a castle bec and the-b link, you can change the voltage on the fly with Bluetooth. So you can test different rpm's on the flywheel and find out what rpm of it do not increase the topspeed of it too much and have good result in unflippable. Or is the rpm changeable by radio? great project nice work! Noticed that you must have the receiver antenna inside the boat. I tucked mine inside too but found significant range loss issues - any thoughts? Thanks and keep up the good work.

Have you tried quality batteries in your transmitter? It makes a huge difference.. hull material makes a difference as well, like carbon fiber hulls need the antenna outside the hull.

Keep in mind if the gyro can swivel freely in 2 axis it will keep the flywheel in the same orientation and you need to measure rotation and use a different system to counter act movement. like spinning up or down a flywheel. When you turn a spinning flywheel it will put a counter force in a 90 degree different turning axis.

Its a cool idea and i pondered on it some. The ones in Yachts are not centrifucal gyros i believe. Dont see this working right unless there were 2 of them? Spinning opposite directions and with matched rpm. And they would have to be horizontal in the boat. With just one you have a centrifical force in one direction so turning the boat opposite of the force will be a issue. Then you're adding a lot of unneeded weight too.

@IRONCLADRC but them style have a axis to move around on. Yours is creating a one direction force. The dirtbike that it goes on its used for a forward force to keep the bike up.

just subscribed, you do great vids full of info but I cannot find a comparison between recoil 2 and vectorsr80 . I’m just wanting to start out so a noob, which would you recommend to grow into, best quality, best for tuning, value for money not a concern. Love to hear what you have to say.

I think the recoil 2 is much faster and more agile out the box, both are good boats unfortunately I don't own a vector, I ran a few years ago, had a couple buddy's with the sr80 pro version. Personally I'd get the recoil proboat has better warranty

If you can find an old boat, Compas, you can steal the gimbal. I wonder if you can get some kind of voltage regulator so you can run it off of the main battery to save some weight

I think its too big, too much nose weight. I wonder if a older helicopter gyro would work mounted low in the rear would help. Being up front its trying to keep the nose in whatever position it finds itself in, so putting it in the rear "in theory" would keep the rear planted. Love your channel! New to boats but not rc & im hooked! Just got my first Pranther215 ss prop & 2 others for testing and a 175amp esc to handle top speed runs. Keep Pumping out the Videos & experiments, you literally covered a topic of an idea i had 2 days ago!

Despite the failures, so far, the idea is outstanding. Had an idea you likes consider trying. It could work, or could be another failure, but if not tried, we'll never know. You tried with it flat, and you tried with it upright facing front/rear. How about trying it uprights, with it facing left/right?

@@IRONCLADRCYou've given countless ideas to others (including me)...so, thought I'd try and return the favor. Something else that just popped into my mind is this. In my initial comment, I was "thinking in 3D", meaning, I was thinking about the "three planes": x, y, & z. You had already tried x & y, thus I suggested z. But, right now, I remembered that the flywheel is rotating in a specific direction, thus each 'plane' needs to be tried twice...with the flywheel rotating in each direction. When you initially tried it 'flat', you did so with the flywheel's motor facing down (ie. the motor was at the top of the flywheel housing)...but, you should also try it with the flywheel' motor facing up (ie. on the bottom of the housing). Same goes for three flywheel upright front/rear...it should be tried again, rotating the flywheel 180 degrees. Then, for the upright left/right testing (my suggestion), test it with the motor facing towards the bow, and again with the motor facing towards the transom. In the end, the flywheel housing will have been tested in 6 different positions. Think of it like a cube, which has 6 faces, and the flywheel needs to be tested in the boat with the motor having faced each of the cube's 6 faces. Just because 'flat' & upright front/rear didn't work the first time doesn't mean they'd both fail when they flywheel housing is flipped 180 degrees. Right?

I'm using the stock losi promoto flywheel, housing, & stator each part is sold separately.. fun to tinker with but not very ethical for an rc boat. You may only need it to sway side to side. If that's the case maybe you can hang it from some kind of swing hinge inside and let it bump foam on the sides.

If its laying down, it should only effect your pitch and roll. Yaw should be relatively unaffected.

Maybe a 2 axis gimbal instead of 3. Get stainless steel schedule 20 pipe the diameter you need and cut rings out of.

You will need to mount it on a humble to work the way you want it to. Hard mounted it is doing what it is designed to. What ever angle you force it to be it wants to stay Ie a turn you pitch it over and it try’s to stay pitched

Leave it standing up but change its front to the back and the back to the front direction and it should turn correctly..
