From listening to the Bourbon Pursuit guys on an episode of their second podcast, Behind the Pursuit, it sounds like there is a lot of basically pay to play to get a medal, then maybe luck to get double gold….especially when they looked at who got silver and such, when they finally got double gold. Why did they continue to enter until they got double gold…like everyone else, they wanted to put it in the marketing materials. Now they need one for their second offering…and more medals as well. And listening to Fred Minnick talk, the process is crazy…you may end up judging a spirt like rum or something instead of bourbon, and the massive numbers of samples that one judge tastes…

Technically, brandy is fruit based. It can be made from almost any fruit just like whiskey can be made from just about any grain. Cognac is a grape based brandy made exclusively in the Cognac region of France the same way that Champagne is a sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France.

Awesome as always, but I think that "dead pixel" effect in your camera is back. It shows up around Rex's ear.

No you don't. Try to find a small sample before dropping any money on this garbage. To my palate, it is HORRIBLE, at best. You might like it, but you should sample some first. Nasty, nasty bourbon. Regret buying it. A LOT!

I have a 2018 edition that’s 24 months old. I’m almost done with the bottle and still can’t say if I like it. To me it’s very strange tasting and that is why it has taken me so long to finish the bottle.

How on earth would they ever keep batch consistency up though? It would be so annoying to spend a good amount of markup because it won these awards just to get it and then it not to be even close to what won.

I'm calling BS, that bottle is one of the grassy-ist, wet hay bottles I own (and on of the worst). Yall got texas shaped rose glasses on for this review... Youthful and for the world reeks of small barrels in heat. Your doing the people dirty here and you probably know it. Still love the content, but this texas PR stuff needs to be called out before more folks waste their hard earned money.

I must have gotten a bad batch because mine has a “Well water” taste like iron metal taste. I’d never recommend this bottle to others.

Knowing how any consumer can be swayed by price and marketing I would hope that whiskey tastings were blind and if not maybe consider starting your own blind tasting competition
