Took care of a tennant today, making sure they didn't go the weekend without AC. Had everything I needed to get the job done.

final vapour line temp at 46 F was good, 10 lbs as per factory charge is good, + additional charge for lineset length over 15 or 25 ft. best to look at manual by looking up model # online. Good job , Badmans, they love to leak.

Most Goodman txvs are adjustable and they are a pain. You have to put an adjustable wrench on bottom of txv and open or close depending on where your superheat is while you're checking your pressures. It helps having wireless probes.

Hi, this is Jermey McGuire. From Lake Corpus Christi, Texas. You did good plugging up the leak on the air conditioner, I recently got 2 brand new air conditioners installed back on Wednesday 4/10/24 and Thursday 5/11/24 I personally had a 5 ton Lennox XC16 air conditioner from 2009. And a 4 ton Goodman from 2018.” The Lennox air conditioner went out the blower Moyer had to get replaced last July. The 1st fluke I had with the old 5 ton Lennox was the high pressure switch it tripped. In July 2022, then a year later. 7/7/23 the blower motor went out. I finally got it fixed on 7/17/23, it was time to get the air conditioner replaced.” Before I was going to get my upstairs air conditioner replaced my downstairs air compressor broke down. And the Lennox gas furnace was completely shot, it was rusted out very bad. The heating exchanger was cracked the only thing was working was the variable speed blower motor.” Before my old upstairs air conditioner wouldn’t cool under 80 on the thermostat.” Now I’m keeping cool!! I don’t have to worry about any air conditioner break downs.

It takes time for the expansion valve to open and close. the data tag states the amount of refrigerant in the condenser but not the line set and evaporator. 160 oz is 10 lbs. if you had a 50 foot line set you may add 1 or 2 more lbs to be fully charged. total charge on that unit would be around 12 lbs. good job sealing that leak but man it looked terrible.

Txv Goodman subcool is usually 6-8 degrees, but your 10 target is a pretty safe bet for most mfgrs. I dont want to say superheat doesnt matter but you cant control that too much unless the txv is adjustable; most Goodmans are. Make sure that bulb is tightly secured and is sized for the condenser as well. I cant tell you how many times Ive found the bulbs loose and thats all it took for my superheat/subcool to normalize. They are usually 1.5-3 ton txv or 3.5-5 youd have to check. They also make them individual size as well for the tonnage. Add the juice after ensuring your bulb is tightis good practice 👍, good job, doesnt help that this always happens on a friday

Not sure whih AHUs they are but I ran into a lot of Goodman units that had Txvs and wanted SH/SC between 7-9 degrees and wad necessary to ajust the valve on a lot of coil changeouts. It was annoying sometimes even had to remove and add as needed
@AB_HVAC
@AB_HVAC 21 күн бұрын
It's so weird you say that because I've had to do condenser swap on a lot of apartments with the newer Goodman units and on the inside of the electrical panel they say they want SH and SC to be between 7-9, obviously that's probably supposed to be a direct AHRI match up with a newer Goodman air handler

Good work man, just: - wondering how exactly was the txv bulb located? Could possibly be not in the right position so it’s allowing too much liquid refrigerant filling in the indoor coil. - then, how was the airflow? Blower fan was spinning at good RPM? would’ve also checked the blower fan cap. Just wanted to share some ideas and keep up the good work. Best!
@AB_HVAC
@AB_HVAC Ай бұрын
Nah I appreciate the questions. That blower motor was a early model ECM and wired for speed tap 4, I didn't check the evap coil to see if it was clean enough and that's my bad. As well I BELIEVE the bulb was mounted on the topside (12-2) on the suction line
@camiloramirez3367
@camiloramirez3367 Ай бұрын
@@AB_HVAC so with a quick static pressure reading across that coil and a total external static pressure you should be able to see if that was the source of the issue.

So crazy how much Freon those take down south. I’m in Kansas and never had more than 4 pounds in apartment condensers. You have to realize apartments change air filters twice a year if that so all coils are filthy and require more Freon to compensate because they ain’t paying to clean coils. Not in the budget. I can’t even believe they hiring you guys to work on them because that would never happen around here. 30 bucks an hour plus cost of equipment is very cheap labor at apartments to fix or replace units as an hvac apartment maintenance tech. When I was working at an hvac company that would have been 1500 to 2000 grand for that repair with 10 pounds of Freon and apartments will not pay that here. Good job anyway

I have found that most of the service calls for a Goodman unit is due to poor quality work by the installers. Leaks at the burned up schrader valves, poor braze on the line sets. Not the machines fault, installers fault most of the time !!!!! Goodman's are excellent units, simple to operate and fix, unless you are one of the MANY poorly trained installers in this trade !!!! SEE WHAT I MEAN, POOR QUALITY BRAZING BY HACK INSTALLERS !!!!!

Leaks can occur on any brand of A/C but I have seen most of these types of leaks on Lennox condensing units. Lennox used a cheap brazing rod that looked like it had little or no silver in it and the joint would eventually crack from vibration. The leak that you found looks like something hit the pipe and weakened it. I assume that happened in the factory. Back in the 90’s, my Lennox condensing unit lost all of its refrigerant and I found a 1/16”hole in the suction line inside the condensing unit. My neighbor blamed the failure on Chinese copper.
