This dude is my childhood. Watching his movies that my grandparents taped on their Betamax off the tv. 😊

Irwin Allen was probably the best disaster film producer in film history - He was an incredible man with vision and was a super sharp businessman that made tons of money - Irwin was a Hollywood legend.

Irwin used to point his finger at you while he barked orders at you - at 6:20 you can see the infamous Irwin Allen "finger" that was legendary in Hollywood - he could be very intimidating behind the scenes, verbally abusive and wagging his finger at you while he spewed his venom - by the way - he had the weirdest wig or whatever it was and when you were in his company you made sure not to stare at his head -- he was very sensitive about his toupee and even when his back was to you and you stared he would quickly turn around knowing you had been staring at that thing on his head. I would normally finish a comment about the deceased by writing RIP but not for Irwin.

So because he was sensitive about being bald, you’re going to hold out an RIP? How, odd.

Allen was a shrewd producer but a lousy director with an unearned ego.

While 20th Century Fox told Irwin Allen..No! Directing all of Poseidon and Inferno..He did get Directing Credit for All Action Sequences…But John Guillerman so called Director of The Towering Inferno…Only directed Actors in non action scenes. Guillerman complained heavily about his directing role in Irwin Allen’s Production…As did Ronald Neame The Director of The Poseidon Adventure. Irwin Allen had Four Units on The Towering Inferno…Most films use only Two Units. On Both Films Producer/Director Allen had in place Well Oiled Machine. Everything scene on Both Films was on Storyboards..And Neame on Poseidon and Guillerman on Inferno..Just followed What Irwin Allen had drawn up. But Director John Guillerman of The Towering Inferno was scolded several times by Irwin Allen and His Trusted Crew..Keep The Cameras Rolling! All Guillerman had to do..was follow the already prepared storyboards..as did Ronald Neame from Poseidon. Irwin Allen did get Directing Credits for Poseidon and Inferno.
