Yes, it has simulated shifts. They take the engine out of its most efficient operational range, reducing MPGs. The reason bothhybrids might "drone" is because, obviously, it is more efficient to stay in that range. If people would stop thinking that, somehow, interrupting your acceleration means better acceleration, it wouldn't be necessary. Nitpick: _Efficiency_ (how much energy is obtained from the same amount of gas) and _economy_ (MPG) are different things. Efficiency applies to the hybrid system, and economy applies to the car. Since you say you are comparing the systems, head-to-head MPG comparison needs to take other things into account. The CR-V is bigger, in all dimensions except rear-seat head room, so the same efficiency gets less MPG. But one other thing is just as important. Believe it or not, that other thing is wheel size. The CR-V is on 235/60R18 tires, while the RAV4 is on 225/55R17. The extra inch for the wheels makes it harder to change wheel speeds, and adds air drag, This probably accounts for the MPG difference. I say "probably" because there is no direct comparison I can make on the SUVs. But I can for the sedans. The Camry and Accord models both come with two different wheel sizes, and that is the only thing that makes the Camry LE vs. XLE, and Accord Base vs. Touring, EPA ratings different. In the Camry, an extra two inches drops it by 6 MPG, and in the Accord it drops 4 MPG. In an adjusted MPG comparison, they are essentially equal.

If you had the left instrument panel display in the Audio mode, you can use the scroll wheel to go through the different audio modes and then press on the wheel to select it if you want to switch from SXM, FM, AM, CarPlay, etc. easily.

Nice review! I wonder how this compares with the Ford escape system that's also mechanically interconnected? Probably more reliable atleast.

Considering CVT's don't last as long as automatic transmissions despite their comfort and MPG advantage, I'll go with the longer lasting car. RAV4 ftw.
