Is the Sealey BSCU25 Battery Charger and Support Unit any good for performing diagnostics on modern vehicles? We take a look to see if this diagnostic battery maintainer is up to the job.
I couldn't find any reliable links to purchase this unit, so have a look around. You can also use this information to confidently purchase a battery support unit of similar specification.

I bought this machine about a year ago and I'm very pleased with it. I have used it for long diagnostic and coding sessions on a 2019 Volvo (SPA) and the car's battery has been adequately supported by this unit. In fact, the battery's state has actually improved while connected meaning that the unit is providing more than enough juice. The BSCU25 actually only provides 20A for battery support but it is more than enough. I also used this charger to recover a completely dead motorbike battery and it worked great.

I like it, nice lightweight charger. I struggle to get much over 13V on diag mode though. How about you?

@@MechanicMindset No I'm only getting 12.8V. Disappointing but good enough for my purposes.

@@funkypotamus Yeah it’s not great. For the money it’s great through. It might be better using battery charge mode. Worth a try, but wouldn’t suggest testing while Your programming.

I've just bought one and tried it. It registered 12.9/13 volts on the diagnostic support mode. I see yours was registering 12.7. I thought it was supposed to put in 13.5v?
@funkypotamus
@funkypotamus 7 ай бұрын
Have noticed the same. Mine doesn't provide 13.5V in battery support mode either. It's also about 12.7V but it still does the job well.

I once had performed programing on a new Touareg, even my 100A power support was‘t enough

@@MechanicMindset I am reading measure value on a Urus, it is drawing more than 25A when ignition switched on with all consumers off. If I remember correctly that Touareg was drawing around 80A when performing diagnostics, sometimes over 100A, I knew because my power support was blinking when output reached 100A

I ask again, why was your unit only inputting 12.7v please? It wouldn't be any good for a BMW that requires at least 13v?

Not sure, what did the manufacturer say? I’ll have to see when I use it next.

@@MechanicMindset They said it should put in 13.5v up to 20 amps. The guy at Sealey checked some others and they couldn't get one above 12.8. He thought the voltage hadn't been set high enough. I returned for a refund which was a shame as it would've made a worthy spare.

Highly dependent on the vehicle. BMW demand 100A charger for coding. I often use 25A for diagnostic especially if i turn it on a long time before and pre charge the battery but on range rover Evoque, BMW, Ford and Volvo it is hopeless to use a 25A charger. Always go for 120A on those for anything more than regular diagnostic and watch the voltage if using the lesser one

And if the voltage goes too low we migh end up with a brick on 4 wheels 😅🙈

@@tullgutten For sure, as I mention, programming can turn on certain components that will draw heavy 👍. VERY important Quite surprised how little these cars draw with only the ignition on!

I have used the BSCU25 for hours at a time on a 2019 Volvo while playing with ecu setting and coding and it has been more than adequate.
