Is a $13 Vacuum Sealer Better Than A $120 One?

I bought a $120 vacuum sealer off of Amazon and a $13 one from TEMU.com. I will compare each on and see which one seals the best and which one protects each steak better. Vacuum sealing is a great way to preserve your steaks when you cut them. It helps you save money and get the most out of each home butchery project.

Sorry mate, but you made yourself look stupid with the cheapie. Did you bother to read the instructions? You have to hold the lid down on the sealer to allow the thing to work. This was a lousy comparison because you didn't do it right. Try a little harder next time and read the instructions.

You don't have to hold the lid down you just have to use the 2 clips on the sides to properly close the device. Just like how on the big expensive one you have to clamp it down with the giant handle.

No doubt that the Tesco is superior. How about after placing the bag in the temu unit, you hold down the lid while vacuuming, and hit the seal button while still holding it down? I have a similar cheapie vacuum sealer that works the same way as your Temu $13 one. It was maybe $20 on Amazon, back in the day. Once you punch the button, you have to hold down the bar until it stops making that loud sucking sound. Otherwise, you don't get a vacuum. My cheapie works just fine and does suck out all the air. I'll be replacing it with that nice Nesco one, if it ever breaks.

I own the Nesco brand sealer and love it!!! In addition to being ATK's recommendation, it is a great sealer and worth every penny! I prefer the premade bags though. The rolls tend to wrinkle and are a pain to cut to the right size. I bought a variety pack of bags from Amazon. I have sealed all of my steaks and roasts and haven't had a problem with freezer burn or spoiling. Worth every penny!

When i put a steer in the freezer, there's no way i could afford the BAGS to vacuum seal it all. Also i just cant get bags big enough for some of the cuts i make. I use ordinary plastic food bags, squeeze the air out and tape seal it. It takes us 2vyears to eat that steer and theres no degradation of the meat. If you leave significant air in the bag, you might get 'freezer burn' which is a very minor dehydration effect and does not effect the the nutritional value of the meat.

I am very picky about the change in texture of foods that have any bit of freezer burn. With only a typical fridge/freezer unit, I vacuum seal all my meats. Well stocked deep freezers that aren’t opened several times a day do better at keeping freezer burn at bay. I wish I had space for a deep freezer so I could buy half a cow and half a pig.

Same here, my Food Saver died years ago and ever since I wrap the meat in waxed paper or parchment paper and then into plastic bags. I see no freezer burn and even if there was, so what? People completely dehydrate meat for jerky and pay big bucks for it. If a tad of freezer burn bothers someone just make soup out of that bit of meat.

yeah, I have the Nesco VS-12 and really like it. Would have liked to see you go into more detail on the Nesco, such as you can select a setting to double seal the bag and can select the sealing pressure on it (I suppose for things like flour, you might want to select low vacuum pressure as the flour will be sucked into the vacuum internal tray with heavier pressure. It also seals mason jars with their lids but you need the adapter (wide mouth/regular mouth canning jars). I replaced the foam seals every six months..they are cheap, I get 4 of them for 12 bucks or so from Amazon and you should place top and bottom at the same time. Maybe you could have given a heads up about the fact that sealing items with moisture in them (like steak, deli meats, etc.) will most likely suck the liquid into the vacuum tray as it removes the air. Maybe you could have taught that you can put a folded up paper towel inside the bag, just above the food to be sealed..this will absorb the juice and prevent juices from being sucked into the internal vacuum tray...although I have found that the sealing bar does a really good job of even sealing moistened/wet bags..it puts out that much heat. otherwise, a nice vid. And for newbies, please remember to always clean the internal vacuum trough/tray with something like vinegar and a paper towel. Thanks.

The only thought I've had while watching you was: "this guy has for sure too much money, so much waste (of the plastic material)". Oh, and "not much common sense available". You can buy rolls of almost ANY BRAND, and customize the size of your bags. Also, the first big piece you sealed with the large sealer, you could have at least 2 pieces of meat into the bag. You just keep them apart around 1", this way you are able to take one or 2 pieces out and re-seal. One can also clean the used bigger bags and re-use them, especially when you put again meat in it. I would not re-use already used (though cleaned) bags for anything that will be eaten raw, like berries or cut fruit, but anything that will be cooked I am good with. I am using vacuum sealers since the early 1990s (and have in the meantime a sophisticated one), and I use it A LOT, it really saves a ton of money - but not by cutting the bags waaaaaay too large/long. There are also different widths of rolls/bags available, also attachments you can seal mason jars (different sizes), I use these for storing dry goods. I make also sometimes custom made x-small or x-narrow bags for freezing portions. Anyhow, it is clear that this presentation was your first use of a vacuum sealer, and you did not perform well, let's say: you struggled, read the instructions before you use a device and make a video. Sorry, Bud.

Actually, my roomie is a manager at Walmart. He has to go to schooling thru the state for codes and etcs. One thing about vacuum sealers, it's alllll about the thickness of the bags. The thicker the bag (like compared to ziplock), the longer the meat can last (without freezer burn). Hope this helps. God bless and have a wonderful Easter

I use the LEM MaxVac 500 Vacuum Sealer and these 2 wouldn't have a chance. I ve had many and none can do 20 plus bags in a row like the max vac can, so if your like me and do a lot of sealing all at once don't bother with those, if you do 3 to 7 bags then I can see using one of these but they will overheat when doing a lot and will not pull a Vacumm or properly seal

Don't waste a dime on the NESCO. Their bags aren't very good, either. One major issue with the NESCO is that its seals often fail. At first I laughed and started typing this light-hearted but now I'm kind of annoyed. So, I'm not going to go easy on you here because I actually do like your channel and I hope that you take this criticism seriously. 1. For the viewers... DON'T buy anything from Temu, anything because good luck with getting the warranty honored. But... let's be honest, that cheap sealer worked fine. You didn't clamp the tabs down so all the vacuum part of the process never had a proper so just hold in air from the outside. Plus, the bag wasn't seated properly so it was never going to seal anyway, even if it were the Nesco. Also those units have manual controls. Usually they have two buttons, one to both vacuum AND seal and another to seal only. The seal only is meant to be used with liquids so you don't suck them out. You didn't let us see up close so there was no way to tell what kind you had. 2. And the whole cheap bag stunt? You know as well as many of us that you can use any brand of sealer bag on any machine as long as it fits the width. On dirt cheap sealers just throw the bags that came with it away because they're useless. In fact even higher costing sealers they warn you to do that because you never know how long the machine has been sitting on the shelves or warehouse before you bought it. But as far as fitting? I haven't found a single one I could use in my no name sealer. 2. I'm betting you have an Amazon affiliate link for that Nesco down in the video description. I haven't looked yet but based on the fake sales routine I'm guessing he's selling it. Which is fine, you got a lot of steaks to pay for. Just don't treat us like we are stupid with the fake tests, it makes you look bad and it makes us less likely to trust you. Especially when there's no need, you could have bought a cheap unit from Amazon to test alongside the expensive one and included affiliate link for that if it truly tested well. People appreciate both high medium and budget reviews...but just...please don't tell these people who are trying to save money that they NEED to drop $100+ on a vacuum sealer. They don't. 3. I have three vacuum sealers I bought for my Sous vide machines back in 2017. Each are different brands+prices the first for home I paid $60, second was for the RV, it cost $20 & needed to be small to fit. The last one stays up at camp. It's the cheapest because...well, Camp. 😂 I think it was a bit over $20. All of them still work after seven years. All I did was pay attention to the reviews. You have to adjust buying tactics for today's Amazon. Things like only pay attention to verified reviews and NOT the reviews from "Vine Program" those are given to people as freebies to review. You want to try to get all your reviews to come from people who actually dropped their own money to buy it. They'll tell you what they really think. Look, I hope you take some of my advice to heart. If you need to pay for those steaks do a best picks for high-end, mid and low-end. I would never do a lot of sealing on anything less than a mid-range myself unless you don't mind treating them like throwaways but if you give it to people straight they'll trust you. Otherwise, I can't imagine the $$ from the affiliate link making up for the loss of a viewer. If people don't trust you they won't stay.

If you buy FREEZER zip-top bags, fill them, then submerge the bag in a large bowl so it completely covers the food in the bag, then squeeze out all of the air, then close the zip-top, that bag will no longer contain any air, and becomes vacuum sealed! No need for a cheapo or expensive 'vacuum sealer' machine that will eventually fail. Plus, no electricity needed for the bowl submersion exercise. Old tip from my grandmother! The freezer zip-top bags are a heavier plastic than regular zip-top bags and should keep meat air-free and freezer-burn-free for months.

I'm trying to make myself pull the trigger on getting a JVR Vac100. A lot of time and research says that is my next move. For nay sayers check it out for yourself!
@praetorxyn
@praetorxyn 5 ай бұрын
@@originalname9999 Yeah, I highly recommend a JVR unit as they're all designed where the top just hinges up so you can work on anything inside, and they sell replacement parts for everything in there. For all the others, as far as I know you have to ship a 85 pound machine back to them and wait for them to fix it. A chamber sealer will save you a fortune in the long run in bags. I used to spend about $200 a year in FoodSaver rolls to make bags. When I got the Vac100, I got 500 6x8" bags, 500 8x10" bags, and 500 12x14" bags, all for like... $126 or $162? I can't remember, but it was in that neighborhood. That amount of bags should last me a few years I'd guess.
@praetorxyn
@praetorxyn 5 ай бұрын
@@desertfox3860 I will say there's a learning curve with it vis a vis the filler plates. Each filler plate basically means you can take 2 seconds off the sealing time, but if you want to use 12"x14" bags in it, you need to remove all the square filler plates, because the extra depth makes up for the extra length and the bag will be too long otherwise. I felt like an idiot when I figured that out.

push it down until it clicks and locks in place. If it won't do that than it is trash cause you will never get a good vacuum. Thanks for the video. Awesome content. :-)

The ends look like they are open on the cheap one? Every vacuum sealer has to clamp shut. I think you need to read instructions!

A video comparing the quality of the sealing and vacuuming capabilities would have interested me. This video wasn't it and looked really dishonest to me. I wonder if the fact that you have an affiliate link thus making you money off of one influenced how you reviewed the products. The TEMU vacuum sealer probably works a lot better when you follow the simple 4 step instructions that are shown on the site and are probably included in the packaging. 1. Fill the bag (do not over fill) and place opening in vacuum chamber. 2. Close the lid and lock the side buckles. 3. Press the "vacuum & seal" button, when the red light turns green again, the sealing is complete. 4. Toggle the exhaust valve, open it and take out the bag. I have wondered for a while if you get what you pay for with vacuum sealers this video just makes me question how bias you are on all of your videos.

You are allowed to read the instructions! I have the cheapo unit and it works great. Perfectly. But, then I read the instructions on how to use it. Hint: you can't remove pressure from your hands on the unit until it is finished sealing the bag.

To be honest, this is a pretty bad video. Not only did you not follow the instructions for the cheap sealer, you're not following instructions with the expensive one either. On the handle, it clearly states not to store the sealer with the lid in the locked position (this warning is even shown up close at 4:11). I would really recommend consulting with the owner's manuals of both products before trying to demonstrate them.

Of course the Temu didn't work. You didn't operate it properly. You have to hold the lid down the entire time it is undergoing the sealing process. That said, it is a cheap piece of crap compared to the more expensive one.

Ok, so you basically didnt read the instructions on the cheap one so that it didnt work, so you could push you Amazon affiliate link and get a commission from every sucker that believes this was a real comparison and buys it.....great job.

This is not a good video, could you not see and feel the lid of the sealer moving as you let go of the smaller unit? Please reconsider or reupload by doing it properly so we can get a fair comparison

Sorry mate, but this is what happens when you don't try to understand how the device you are using works. The air isn't sucked out by magic. It needs to be airtight so the pump can take the air out of the bag, not from the whole kitchen. Pressing it for a couple of seconds and then taking out your hands hoping that by miracle it'll work is not the way to go. Put the bag opening in the chamber (not everywhere like you seem to have done), close the lid, lock the lid clamps. THEN it'll work. Listen, take this is constructive criticism. Don't give up making videos because a bunch of us are criticizing you. Take it as experience building, and next time, read the instructions or actually look at the device you are trying to compare. It was easy enough to see the clamps and figure out their purpose.

Why, if you're gonna spend money on GOOD steaks (and other meats) would you WASTE that good meat in a crap sealer?! Save your pennies, buy the sealer first and THEN start buying and storing "big meat"!? Really, folks. Carnivore for 6 months: down 40 pounds, feel BRILLIANT!!

Lousy comparison clearly intended to leave a negative review for the TEMU vacuum sealer. I guess you read the manual. It clearly says hold the lid down until the vacuum pump has done its work. But to make your scheme work, you fiddle around a bit with the device. If you take yourself serious stop making reviews on KZfaq, and stop wasting your and our time!

An entertaining, but ultimately useless comparison. Obviously a $13 unit is junk. Would've been better to test some thing more reasonable like a 40 or $50 version.

First off I am not a hater. But l personally am not buying any more cheapo knockoffs. And vacuum sealing is the most expensive option, I will only use it for loong term storage. Butcher paper that is PFOA&PFOS free placed in a freezer bag that you submerge in cold water to displace the air works good for at least a year. But I run 3 freezers. Also, I wouldn't feed my pets those steaks you make from Costco. Come on we are all getting pinched, but let's not focus on price alone and stand back and look at the big picture. Family farms are going away for a few pennies for f**ks sake. Maybe I'm crazy but once 3 multi national companies control the industry you will not have an advantage... It's easier today than ever before to find a farmer raising healthy happy meats for not much more. UPS will bring it to you! Okay I'm done I still watch your stuff to improve my game...thanks for your content...l guess I was hoping maybe you could enlighten others. Mark
