I love when you say that was a toe strike and it shows the strike a smidge off center towards the toe. My toe strike is a 100% confined to the toe of the club lol

Same, tried multiple Hybrids but tried a friends TM Gapr Lo 2 iron and went and got a 790 udi and never looked back

Love my 2 sim udi. Definitely better with a slight tee up than on ground. I needed something to help keep the ball down in wind off the tee that was longer than a knock down 4 iron and more accurate/shorter than my driver or 3 wood. Regular 4 iron would die into 1-2 club wind. 2 udi cuts right through it and goes about 30-40 yards farther. Great for par 4s.

Definitely better with a slight tee up. Too much and you're just lobbing the thing. Perfect for windy days and low stingers across a par 4. I am already hitting 175 with a 3 iron 24 degree Marquis iron, but with this 2i, I'm hitting 225 to 250 easy with a UDI.

I game a Mizuno mp h5 in the 1 iron. It came with a C Taper 130 X shaft, soon got rid of that broomstick and put an 85g X flex instead. Absolutely LOVE IT. I was never able to work my 2 hybrid consistently. This 1 iron is my favorite club in the bag, hands down. So much grunt, and massive roll out in Links conditions. It's got that lovely 'Mizuno feel' that the rest of my bag has as well. 😊

The forgiveness is pretty much in the shaft when it comes to Utilitys IMO. I could never use a 20 degree with my normal steel shaft. But with a graphite shaft at 80 grams I just love it. Not much harder to hit than a 6 or 7 iron.

Given that I have always kept a 3 and 2 iron in my bag, I'd say a UDI is basically a necessity in my bag! I have found myself using a 2 iron off the tee as well lately, instead of a wood. The way I see it, I would rather hit a pair of 3 irons and chip into the green on a hole, than to use a wood and shorter iron, since I am pretty much always playing bogey golf and laying up to greens anyway.

I had the GAPR Mid and I did not get along with it. Performed well on good ball strikes, but not forgiving on off center hits or crappy lies. I also have a P790 UDI and it’s money IF you strike the ball well. Not great off the turf either. DHY is not the same as GAPR. For me, DHY could replace 3 wood if you need more precision on demanding tee shots. Not quite a hybrid replacement off the turf or rough. SIM UDI is just a friendlier, more forgiving, evolved version of the P790 UDI. It addresses like an iron, swings and strikes like an iron, and flies like an iron. Just easier to hit. The interesting exercise is take their cheaper game improvement SIM 4 Iron and shaft it with your normal iron shaft. I have one bent in between what my P790 3 and 4 irons are. It’s super easy to hit off the tee and performs as well as SIM UDI 3 iron.

@@GolfRx It can be absolutely be done. I just don't trust the P790 for my game. SIM UDI is just more forgiving. Shaft choice also makes a big difference. I've got the stock Smoke in my P790 UDI, but I have Tensei White 90g in my SIM UDIs, DHY, and Hybrid.

I switched from an Adams 18 deg DHY to a Mizuno 18 deg Fli Hi. Both I used mainly off the tee unless I had a perfect lie. The miss with the Mizuno is straighter while the Adams could deliver a wicked hook. As far as the 3-iron, way less turf interaction makes it easier to hit off most lies. Heavy rough gives me trouble but that is loft related.

I game a 3 "hybrid" Gapr Mid, Gapr seemed gimmicky but as someone who hates the look of a hybrid but still understands the benefits the Gapr Mid was a good compromise, good penetrating ball flight, with the help to get it up and a smaller profile look.

Great video and timing. I have been using the UDI 2 iron and had it bent flat 2*. That seemed to help with my strike patterns and is a beast off the tee when I hit it good. My only concern is the forgiveness vs the DHY 3. Tried the DHY 3 and was too close to my 4 iron distance in my T100S.

Once in my lifetime I had an adams dhy with a steel shaft, lumber. It was money out of the rough....I hit it a lot out of the rough. Fond memories.

Great video. I recently just built myself a TM Sim MAX OS 4-iron as a driving iron. Adjusted for a bit more upright lie angle to fight my push/fade, and strengthened to 16*. Basically, a poor mans UDI. I've only played it a few times, and with my old man average swing speed I'm carrying about 200yds while still getting decent height out of it.

Not a fan of hybrid clubs or fairway woods... they just don't really work well for my swing and I keep topping the ball. However, my 15.5 degree driving iron has made a big difference in my handicap. It really helps on the second shot for long par 4 or par 5 holes. I even use it to drive par 3 holes. I often get a reliable & relatively straight 125 to 170 yards with the driving iron using a 1/2 to 3/4 swing.

If you CAN hit a hybrid, use a hybrid. Comes in soft and is AMAZING out of the rough. The thing for me is as I started to go from a fade to a draw I started to hook my hybrid like crazy, and now use a 2i. But, even as fun as it is to roast a 2i, I think hybrids are just the way of the future. They are hook machines though for guys who hit draws (notice the guys on tour who use them are typically all faders of the ball). So try them both out and see what works best! But assuming you hit both great, I'd go with the hybrid

Ended up getting the UDI 790 2i a week before the SIM came out. 😭. Actually it’s pretty good but as Ian said, off the deck on 2nd shots is more difficult than off the tee.

It amazes me how much of the Adams Tech they are still using in these clubs! The DHY doesn't look very different than the Adams driving iron of the same name. The speed slots, the weighting, even some of the shape is Adams. That said, thee Adams hybrids and driving irons were ahead of their time and fantastic clubs in their day.

One thing which I think should be mentioned is the much larger offset on both the SIM UDI & DHY as compared to the P790 UDI. Tried all three and much preferred the players look of the P790 UDI which I’ve just ordered. A question for the @TXG guys - difference between the Diamana Thump and the Hzrdus Smoke Black? When I was getting fitted where I live there wasn’t the option to try between the two. Either Hzrdus for the P790 or Thump for the SIM...

Ditched my 3wd for one of the UDI 2! Awesome off the deck as well on a long par 5. Super versatile vs a 3wd...only giving up a little carry distance in the overall comparison but he carol isn’t even close.

Go for the dhy. It's WAY more forgiving and doesn't feel like a piece of stone when you miss hit it. It also feels just as soft as udi on center hits

So, interesting video. I recently had a Callaway UT 3hybrid driving iron made, 20* of loft Accra Tz5 shaft. Really nice club. I was tempted with a P790 UDI 3 iron head but the Callaway was even easier to hit. It's just nice to have options for woods, hybrids, or driving irons depending on how you're hitting it and the shots you'll likely need for the course.

Had the p790 2 iron 100 6.0 hzrd and it worked form me. Great from the tee and decent from the fairway. Also if you like stingers, it does that great. Sadly it broke before the summer....

Hey guys love the videos but I have a suggestion which applies to most of your comparison tests - I would like to see how the clubs react to some real Mis-hits. On a mis hit is it going to really hook/slice out of play? Is it going to go 150 yards less than normal or only 25 yards less than normal? Matt’s swing is great for testing with consistent swings. Any club will work with a great swing but for the non-scratch golfers a large concern is how does it fly on a REAL mis hit.

I went to try out these 2 clubs. Even though it looked real bulky behind the club, the DHY was much better. However, at $400aud for the one club I couldn't justify the cost. I ended up with a Mp20 which didn't work for me as well but it was $140 cheaper

I thought udi looked pretty good. I actually have the old adams dhys. they were animals but mostly hit bullets. I broke down and put p790 udi 2 and 3 iron in the bag this season and they are game changers for good ball strikers. Update. Old school dhy is back in the bag. I painted the grey top line and it totally changed the look to be more compact. I have 18 21 24 and interchange accordingly

Would love Mizuno to bring out a Hot Metal 2 Iron My 4 iron is so easy to hit and goes a long way. Found the MP 20 far less forgiving. Come on Mizuno, you won't have to bend any more irons for Brooks Koepka if you put this in production.

Did you get the club at standard length? Looking to get a DHY 2 iron with the GOST shaft and wondering how much I can cut it from the standard length to avoid drastically altering the swing weight.

how long have you been golfing? I find that most people master the short irons first, and then struggle at switching between iron/driver swings which leaves them with really good long irons before they master everything.

Im an 18 hdcp and i play a ping crossover driving iron and i find it so easy to hit. I was shocked that i do play it well. I cant flight it like a better player but it is a fairway finder for me

I have 4,5 sim Max 6-AW P790, 54 and 58 milled grind 2 raw. I play a tight windy course. Thinking of a 2 iron DHY. The 2 UDI looks a bit intimidating to hit.

If you’re an 8 or above, the 20degree srixzon is one of the easiest ut iron’s to hit consistently well....for me anyway.

Getting on pretty well with my 5 wood and hybrid so I don’t see a purchase along these lines in my future. Good option though as I’ve picked up a Callaway Rogue X 4 iron for a similar purpose and being more user friendly.

Hey guys, just a slight error in your video. When you go to introduce the DHY for the first time after hitting some with the UDI you show a "UDI" slide instead of the "DHY" slide. Minor thing. I LOVE your vids tho and try watching as often as I can!

Average golfer here whose swing is different every round - on days when I'm hitting my woods well, I have a 3 wood off the tee. On days when I'm hitting irons well, I hit my DHY 2 iron off the tee. Gives me another head profile option based on where my confidence is on that day. I like a hybrid off the deck, but off the tee it goes too high.

@@joewhyte3036 18 handicap myself. It is more demanding and less forgiving than a hybrid. I find it is more accurate, but not as consistent in yardage as a hybrid. On those holes where all I need is a straight ball off the tee, it's still my go to club

We are both Lefties so I watch he swing a lot for which I playing better and shot my High School Record of 76 and to add to that was the year I Finish High School! ( thanks Matty). Okay guys. Everyone wants to see a few shots hit off a low tee. I'm going to use this club off the tee on tight driving holes or short part 4's. Missed opportunity here. I would VERY rarely hit these clubs off the ground.

Tee height is more of a personal preference thing, it won’t guarantee a certain strike location for every player. For me the perfect lie of the artificial surface simulates exactly how I’d tee up the ball low to the ground on the course. If we’d teed this up the most you might see is a slightly higher launch and slightly lower spin (resulting in a bit flatter flight)

@@clubchampionmedia Exactly, which is exactly what I want to see with a "driving iron". I'm a mid handicapper (12.4), with a high swing speed (118-122 with a driver). I'm always looking for something that will hit the fairway consistently, 270-280 yds out. I think a driving iron might fit the bill. Which is why I wanted to see this off a low tee. Btw, live the channel. Subscriber. Big fan.

I have TM M6 Irons with a 4 Iron at 19° and a PW at 43.5° Can you do a video about how to think about gapping wedges and rounding out the top end of the bag with club so strong lofted? It feels like I need 5 wedges ...but then I have no room for anything between 4 iron and 3 wood

Any chance you guys can get your hands on that Pro model of the Tour Edge Exotics driver?? The one that looks like Epic Flash with the weight rail. I think you guys enjoyed their regular model and was curious about the lower CC pro

I currently have a 21* Callaway C-Forged driving iron....I bag the 718 AP2 irons. I hit my 4 iron pretty straight/5 yard baby draw around 195 carry. When I hit my Callaway driving iron, it snaps hook every time with the same set up, same grip..etc. I can literally pick up my 4 or 5 iron...hit a shot at the range...swap to the driving iron and it snap hooks. The only way I can get it to get a good ball flight is to weaken my grip completely with right hand on top and left hand no knuckles. With my other irons, this would fade/slice all of them. What the heck? I love the driving iron, I hit it flush, it just keeps going left...any thought? Btw...same happens for me with hybrids...which is why I bought the driving iron.

Ian, so where is the driving iron useful on the course? Obviously the tee box, how is it from the fairway or fairway rough compared to a hybrid?

Matt’s driving iron is 21 degrees but how long is the shaft? Interested to know this. I am currently playing a 3 iron TMB (bent same loft) at 39.25 inches in a graphite shaft

Wanted to ask, did you guys bend the DHY 1 degree strong to get it to 18? I know Ian mentioned some concerns about bending the UDI in the video, wasn't sure if the DHY has the same concerns?

If I would weaken the SIM UDI 2 iron by 1 degree, would that slightly remove some of the offset? Thanks!

I have a TM M2 Driver and 5 Wood and then down to a 4 iron. Never really hit a hybrid well. Would the 3 DHY fill the gap between the 5 wood and the 4 iron?

Hey guys, i was wondering, which affects control more, shaft weight or swing weight? I have really light graphite shafts that im starting to out grow because im losing control, could raising the swing weight with lead tApe be the solution over buying expensive heavier shafts?
