Just graduated with a marketing degree from one of the "more highly ranked" marketing programs (trying to add legitimacy to my comment without sounding too cocky here). Overall I enjoyed it! Got a job rather fast after graduating and it wasn't that difficult compared to other majors which gave me time to follow other interests. My favorite thing about a marketing degree is how flexible it is as Shane was suggesting. I paired it with Risk Management (analytical side), Film (creative side) and minored in digital studies while graduating in 4 years that allowed me to go into a lot of different industries. I really wanted to work in either sports or fintech after college which are two rather different fields but having a marketing degree gave me the ability to do either which most other majors don't let you. Marketing really allows you to go into any field (you can do "_____" marketing but not always "______" engineering). If anyone is interested in Marketing message or reply and I'm more than happy to help answer any questions!

Best choice of my life. Went into college as a finance major, wayyy too much insane math. A marketing degree got me a job halfway through my senior year that pays over $60k. I supplemented my degree with a concentration in international business and a Chinese minor, so I 100% agree that it helped me get my current position.

From my experience, it is true that the theoretical business courses are definitely easy. But at my university, all the business programs are closed-enrollment (you have to apply to the program after completing prerequisite courses to be officially in the course). The prerequisite courses are the beginning courses in Accounting, Finance, Marketing Management, etc. The range of average GPA of students who were admitted into these business programs is 3.27 - 3.82.

I graduated with a marketing degree, worked channel marketing for Boost Mobile and Sprint at a high level telecom corporate right out of college for 3 years and was learning a lot. The company had an acquisition and I was laid off around the time the pandemic started. I could never find another marketing job, because everything went digital (instagram) and I was experienced selling retail. Most marketers that are faced with a dead end, go work in sales, but sales isn't my personality. I am working on changing my career to a data analyst and feel like I've wasted 7 years of my life. Would love to do marketing for a start-up, other than that never again. If you are creative, have A.D.D. and crazy work ethic you can be a great marketer, everyone else is just doing admin stuff pretending they like what they are doing (especially in corporate).

I studied marketing, now currently pursuing major in computer science, partly thanks to my diploma in e-commerce that get me into this field, and i can tell you that a marketing degree is practically tooo general and you are also right, the syllabus do not keep up to date, back then e-commerce is fine as i do learn web page design and other IT related subjects, but then follow up to degree in marketing, it tends to go downhill from there, as we are memorising theories after theories with no practical works, some of the subjects include Customer Relationships Management, Consumer Behavior, Strategic Marketing & Decision Making, etc, which to me is just lean towards on common sense. If it does carry on with a blend of marketing and digital/IT elements, it will be well worth it, but then i come out with marketing knowledge but with no specialised skills. Yes, i can pursue being a marketing manager but that requires a senior level experience, and so with the Covid19 hits, i just take these times and dive deep into the computing era.

I know that you highly advice for rising or current college students to double major/minor to give them a leg up. May you please make a video on combining vs. double majoring? You could use the combo degrees you often talk about on your channel and compare it to taking them separately and give your opinions and reasons on which is going to be more beneficial? With that being said you could section it out by doing a video focused Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Social Sciences, etc. Or you could choose a couple from each career field and make it all into one video.

I’m on my last semester of my marketing degree. I just interviewed for my first digital marketing job and would be making $70k a year salary. Prior to finding this job 90% of the jobs I found at entry level only paid $35-50k so hopefully they feel my interview went well.

I think Marketing is more towards creativity (hence depends on whether the boss/client likes it etc) and it is possible to be done with self studies & short courses. now I'm focusing on IT in my degree and taking phyton classes as I find these technical skills are impt. Just in my opinion Business degree would be good if paired with person with good soft skills. I feel there are many people with business degree hence why would they pick you. Most likely is cause of your experiences and also soft skills during the interview and job. Unless one is talking about accounting for example then they would want you to have technical knowledge in accounting side

People have been asking me am I in marketing for the past 20 years 😁 because I’m very creative and have great ideas… it’s just the way I talk about things and how analytical I am plus the jobs I’ve had and just life skills. I lost my mom when I was 14 so all that budgeting and saving, I already knew how to do certain things… I was the only female young lady in the house and I got a job and my father threw all the responsibility on me, he didn’t work and I didn’t have a childhood. I left his place while still in high school he was abusive and got my own. I’ve done a lot of research when it comes to marketing. I’m an introvert but I’m a people person and I communicate extremely well and see what’s not there, I’m a cancer and I can’t help but be empathetic and feel things. You gotta tap into emotions and that comes naturally to me. I love problem solving too. There’s a psychology behind marketing and it’s always why? I used to do sales and I sold without selling and being pushy…. People bought stuff because it served a purpose. I don’t do anything in life without a purpose. I’m going back to school to finish my degree. I been to several schools. Didn’t finish. Didn’t want the debt I’ve tried other creative fields like music, media communications but, I keep ending up right back to marketing so why not get a degree in it! I recall at my friends graduation brunch everyone thought I had a degree and I didn’t. I’m disciplined and can learn things on my own. I’m mainly going for myself and to gain more experience… and to change how we perceive things and marketing is everywhere so it’s all about blending the old with the new 😉

My brother finished his B of commerce from one of the top universities, with double major in finance and marketing. He is very interested in marketing and had no interest in finance. He chose finance coz it looked good on paper and that was expectations of the family but he regretted his finance major despite it is profoundly less competitive than marketing at entry level. He struggled to find junior level job in marketing with decent pay. He said he can only do, study and work in an area of interest and that is NOT finance. I admire him for that though, many would have probably pivoted to finance but he is passionate and determined to be on the path he wants to do. Marketing is very tough at entry level, but demand is high for experienced marketing managers.

One thing any future marketing majors should be aware of is a lot of marketing job listings are actually sales jobs usually telemarketing. This is usually because of employers being scummy and purposefully disguising their listings or just ignorant and thinking that marketing and sales are the exact same thing

Was highly disappointed and found the stuff they teach you are really outdated and barely anything focused on online/digital marketing. So I switched to an international business major instead. Help Me Choose: Marketing or Advertising Management? I’m an incoming college freshmen currently applying and I need to choose a course that is best for me, I was thinking of these two since I have an interest in copywriting, but I’m not sure if it is true passion enough for me to invest on a whole course. I think marketing is more broad and practical since it’s also going to tackle advertising as well, and will have more job opportunities since it is not just advertising but the advertising course has actual copywriting classes and has more subjects I feel I will enjoy more (like art direction and creative managemen) but may just be an infatuation/phase, as this has happened before like I liked architecture till I found out the course is too hard for what it offers, or fashion design. Which should I choose, should I just choose marketing since it seems to pay more and we might still learn about copywriting in advertising classes and then just teach myself copywriting online, or take the risk and go specialized in advertising management (the subjects are lil bit more interesting to see), but I’m worried that this interest might just be a phase. Is there a way to study the copywriting classes and other interested subjects as electives with a marketing management degree? And yes, I know about experience and am currently finding a way for internship soon, which of the two should I choose? Big help thx.

Can you do a video about whether University Rankings are overrated? Websites such as QS, Times Higher Education, and ARWU. I think a lot of students put too much stock into how high those universities rank on the list, and not enough about the education system where universities are held. For example: the US has a majority of top ranked universities in the world, but the student loan system is a mess compared to other countries.

An idea: have videos of a particular job instead of a particular degree. For example, an accountant. Yes, almost the same as an accounting major but you can also explore the CPA designation and the importance. Or like an actuary. Yes, you went through actuarial science, but I do know that many actuaries come from finance and economics majors. And of course, you have those 6 exams...plus, you have different societies. The degree in these fields are only part of the plan needed to be successful. I do know that doing your own research on each field can be difficult. Perhaps your channel could eventually interview people in these careers in the future.

There are a lot of sales people without degrees who tend to have issues with gambling and other forms of squandering money , they spend it as fast as they earn it.

But the question is which college has the best marketing degree
