No Man's Sky has had some rocky updates, Next was one of them.
While the update brought a total change to the game, the galactic reset that came with it, wiped much of the previous progress.
But is a Reset really so Bad? Would you not give up your progress, if that would result in a new chance to explore and discover a truly varied galaxy?

An excellent view Beebs, I have only been playing since January, Id hate to see builds lost, there are some truly epic ones out there, if they do a reset maybe they could implement a facility to enable some builds to be bought over, if requested, but if it means the game is improved immensely, im sure a rebuild could be fun, and possibly better than before. Though im not sure the Polar Express can be improved 😜

I am personally not that attached to my builds, the most "epic" ones I had, I already deleted myself. Holding on to the past does not allow you to move forward and look into the future. Most artists are in it for the making of it, after that they most likely sell (or destroy) it and never see it again. I don't think we will see a reset this year, and perhaps they never will. Imo, we have way too much Galaxies, 16 would have been more than enough. Creating Variety would have been so much easier for them by adding new galaxies to it. It is all in their hands ofcourse, but I hope once the time comes, they don't hesitate.

@@Beeblebum I have allways said that I wish when you enter new galaxies there would be noticable differances like different worlds, animals, ships.freighters, etc. This would give everyone great incentive to jump thru them. Why are there so many galaxies if they are all just the same for the most part? I jumped thru all 255 and for all of that effort that took me YEARS to do, I saw nothing different. Kind of sad really. I would do this all over again though if they reset it and gave incentive to do so :)

@@craftbrew8356 You have actually been to all 255 galaxies!? Wow, that is impressive! after getting to 3 different galaxies I just gave up due to the lack of variety, I figured there's so much I can see in the 3 that I've been to I don't see the point. Sean Murray needs to see this video. This is such an excellently executed video buddy. I agree with your opinions and side for a full reset, but I don't think it's coming. I believe this apparent "Void" universe will be in place so our current iteration can remain in-tact while the Void universe will completely fresh with far more diversity and uniqueness to it. This is what I feel HG have done to please all play styles of NMS.
@Beeblebum

Yep, exactly.. I don't see a reset either. I have been under the impression Frontiers (perhaps with another universe and void) is a transition update, allowing us to move away from the current galaxies... Perhaps move our creations out to the new galaxy... That would allow HG to reset afterwards only the older part of the galaxy... this is just pure speculation, but it might be a good solution.

I saw you, Beeblebum, on the Xbox Gamescom live stream of Jason Plays. Frankly, I don't care if there is a galaxy reset, and I lose all my bases and whatnot. Others obviously will care, but if it's a massive and very awesome update, then that is a sacrifice the community might have to make. In all honesty, I would like a reset, because I'd have a better time exploring things I don't even know about. In other words, I want to feel lost in a universe that bewilders me, because No Man's Sky is about mystery and the unknown... and how to conquer it.

Yes, There are many that are afraid for what they have. I still think HG will do whatever they can to protect it. But It is very clear that the Majority of the community prefers a reset and refresh. It will be a sacrifice to lose things, but just imagine the possibilities after that.

I would not even bat an eye if they wouldn't. But knowing HG, they will do everything they can to protect it. The longer they wait, the more there will be to protect though.. haha. I feel if they would create a mirror universe, where you could transfer your bases to, with the idea that the old universe one day will be removed (Atlas Dying). That would be a good transitioning method.

It's not the first time I have been saying this tbh... I personally felt Origins was the ideal update for a Reset. But perhaps HG has another plan and knows exactly when the ideal time would be for it. Getting attached to what is behind you only slows us down... It is just a creation that gave enjoyment while creating it, but once it is build, it is just a memory and a checkpoint of your adventure. When people allow checkpoint to become anchor points, there is no more progress.

But this games can be truly limitless if they put more work into the game and implement new things to fully immerse this experience for everyone to enjoy I love seeing people build massive cities and sharing it with the community to feel even more immerse in this sand box game if the community works with the devs i think all overhauls changes to the game will be something amazing to see and journey together with even more players delving in to something like no man sky when it starts making its name more known to all players.

I think HG should add an item that stores a base of the user like some sort of pocket reality cube and they could place it somewhere else once a reset happens, or just let us save base presets that we can build after gathering the necessary materials. For fauna, the old discoveries that disappeared could be marked extinct and if you want to make them a companion, you have to make them Jurassic park style by using the data your scanner saved and using that the egg of a similar creature in the egg sequencer or something.

I have numerous resource outposts dotted along my route to the Galaxy core and I have a single "Home" base that I've been working on for two years and have recently started building a Cathedral for my little sea side town. It already has a marina, lighthouse , subterranean complex , starport and agricultural complex. The little outposts have just been upgraded to utilize different hotspots and finally enabled me to focus on my journey coreward and finally enabled production of stasis devices. I will be upset if this journey is disrupted through the loss of the outposts but I could adapt. The loss of my "home" may just push me to another game. Too much work has gone into it and I've been holding out for the day my brother comes to visit the town of Staberinde. I've not started building the Battleship yet. The cathedral is a test of resources first. I've not made it to the core . The plan was to stop just short of it and build a small base. A holiday home . The last time I played a game and got hooked was playing DayZ Origins. It was far more buggy than no man's sky ....much worse and yet the game was fantastic and like no man sky ceases to feel like a mundane game. You have your home and the missions you set yourself. If the games bugs do not render mission impossible then I don't worry about them. I do not explore. I travel . The game reminds me of Battlestar Galactica. I appreciate the cerebral game that we have but I'd far rather see pvp increase, PvE increase, random destruction of logistics and resources that requires maintenance and I'd like my home base to be safe.

I wonder, could the Frontiers update truly be the frontier between the old world and the new? A sort of new universe where the developers could constantly iterate on its very foundations, experimental and new grounds, effectively being an eternal frontier for explorers, where builders would battle with the ephemeral nature of that universe. That could be great.

It could be, and it seems many are speculating this is what the update will bring. I am not sure about it still, just because I feel they made way to much galaxies to start off with. If you are a builder, then yes, resets always hurt. From my own personal experience, and I always choose to play games that have building, this would hurt more than most because NMS building is broken in fundamental ways. Pieces that should snap together don't. Unlike all other games I've played, glitching isn't just for the advanced, super creative builders, it's necessary to attach stairs to get out of your building and stupid stuff like that. Once they announced the Frontiers update, I quit building because it is so tedious and frustrating to do what should be simple stuff. My hope is the update will include at least some fixes to building. If there are a lot of fixes to building, and they choose to reset, I could live with that. If they were planning a reset, I think they would have given us a heads up by now, no?
@Beeblebum
@Beeblebum 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on when exactly Frontiers will drop. But I do not see a reset coming with Frontiers, I think frontiers might be a transition between the current game and what is coming. I have always enjoyed building in NMS, even with its quirks. But there are indeed frustrating things, and I understand people with less patience and dexterity are frustrated with Glitchbuilding. I don't think we see improvements or changes to building (hoping I am wrong) now. I am sure they are working reworking it, and I have been considering making a video about it. But it seems the are currently focused on another branch/pillar of the game.
@Graybeard_
@Graybeard_ 2 жыл бұрын
@@Beeblebum I agree with you (that we likely won't see any substantial changes/improvements to building). The building challenges are not a big deal with me. There are mods out there that make building easier for us basic builders. I was just reaching the point where I was ready to install a mod when they announced Frontiers and decided to wait to see what that brings. I have always enjoyed doing a little glitching to add something nice (aesthetically) or to add functionality to a build that the developers didn't account for or intend. But I am not the type of builder who sees every building problem as a challenge, and enjoys figuring out a solution. Yes, every game with building has its challenges and glitches. Also true is every game with building has very talented, creative, skilled builders that make amazing builds, so it's clearly always possible to overcome the challenges. What I have found that is unique with NMS (in my experience) is that very basic building steps often don't work as intended, like attaching a landing pad to a doorway. I can fiddle and fiddle for 15 minutes without success (getting green) and then leave the game or go do something else and come back and it snaps right in. But then you have a landing pad floating in the air. Try snapping support structure pieces to it to make it look structurally sound. That entails a lot of glitching and time. It shouldn't. It would be great to see someone like yourself identify a list of top 10 (most common) building challenges that basic builders who just want a decent looking, functional base will encounter. 8-) 1. Attaching landing pads to your build 2. Supporting landing pads 3. Building an elevated outdoor deck with stairs that lead up/attach to a doorway 4. Connecting different levels of your build. 5. Attaching stairs outside 6. Using the terrain tool to create flat building areas Etc.

I stopped playing when beyond dropped because it messed up my saves AGAIN, and did not come back until recently. I do not care for some of the new additions, and I am not a multiplayer person. I can honestly say that if another reset happens, I will permanently go offline and continue playing older version and build bases in unreachable galaxies such as negative galaxies as well as odyalutai and others you cannot reach now. Will be no sweat off my back to walk away from future expansions when they destroy all I have put into it.

A crazy Idea just popped in my head... What if they made game modes for the pillars of gameplay, people who want combat can have it, people who want exploration can have that, people who just want to trade and get rich can do that. And then those that like all three can just play the original modes. Maybe that's just too complicated IDK maybe it would be better to just have galaxies that lean toward each style of gameplay, in any case I'm cool with a reset if it would mean I have reason to stay on a planet for more than an hour or reason to travel to a new galaxy.

Oof…I’ve been investing hours into base building recently and I would be a little heartbroken to lose all my work. But I would get over it and move on to new and better things. I agree with what seems like the majority that if it means the game takes a major step forward, a reset would be worth it, especially if they refund materials. I would just hope that they give ample notice so those that want to have time to take photos for rebuilding in the new universe

You know I just realized a easy solution for them to do. Have it save your build on a template that you can pre-built and angle however you want. But also make a dismantling ray for breaking down buildings on a large scale for their base building blocks. If they did this then updating the building system to be even better and more seemless Hello Games wouldn't care if they had to reboot again. At least you guys have a way to auto build your buildings again you know?

The NEXT update did destroy a number of modules in my MT and ship. It also effectively destroyed my one circuit board farm. It did get credit for my obsolete modules to get new modules. But I had to learn the new tech recipes before I could use them. I was very upset, at the time. Now, not so much. If a reset occurs, I will just take it in stride. But my thoughts are not a reset, but somehow using the LS and Boundary Fractures as a way to enter an entirely new universe with, perhaps, new types of systems, biomes, freighters, and ships. The only thing in common would be the LS. The only transition from one universe to the other would be via the Boundary Fracture. You could NOT summon anything from one universe to another. You'd only have what is in your exosuit (resources & tech). I don't know about tech in the MT. So a new freighter and, at least, 5 new ships (I guess you'd keep the LS to transition back & forth). If there are new biomes, I don't know about new hazard protection for them. 🤔
@Beeblebum
@Beeblebum 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, NEXT really did a number on the resources when it released. I think Frontiers is not Reset related, and they will make indeed something similar to a alternate Universe or such. But I still think they went overboard with the about of Galaxies we have now... It was overkill, and just made expanding on it harder. Just Imagine only having 10 (or more appropriately 16) galaxies, and when wanting to add more variety, just add a new galaxy with the new additions. Once again, We can only speculate on the title of Frontiers... Its all in the hands of Sean and his team.

It is time for another reset. I normally would do a new permadeath with each of the updates to see the changes that might have been made. I had stopped doing that as of 3.3 cause that added a rather unneeded change - that new target sweep scanner that has no real place in the game. I still have my old saves (survival, perma and the normal) that date back to 1.77 before the Beyond update, had not touched those since cause how it broke so many bases. People want to see those multicolored worlds again, but they forget that to have those back the reset needs to take place.

I am definitely on for a reset and i don't mind my creations to go obsolete BUT i am 100% sure that Hello Games will find ways to appease us all. They can implement blueprints for example, which can work as a stored item which will contain our old bases. They can even make it as a new function to the game. Imagine buying blueprints of bases from other players which then you can build with materials you find. But there's more. Forget the blueprints. Imagine if they make another dimension like the Void. Well if they can make one new dimension, this won't stop them from making multiple new dimensions. This new dimension could hold the new superformula for example (if applying new rules to each dimension is technically possible). And then the old (current) dimension would remain intact to visit freely. In this case, i would sacrifice the extra galaxies. I don't see a point for them to exist the way they exist now, they are nearly identical. Better scrap them or make them count (by adding galaxy-speific proc gen rules etc or thinking something innovative entirely).
@Beeblebum

Yeah, I think other dimensions and Galaxies would be a solution, but I feel we have just to many already.. lol. Building in NMS is easy enough and yet sometimes time consuming depending upon the build, but anything like a stasis device farm is really easy to replace, even at half max units, so if a reset comes I can deal with it, as I have no truly epic monument build which would be lost, some builds would be a great loss if deleted by reset so it's 6 of one half a dozen of another

I think this game needs a reset, especially between major versions, if the first number of the game version changes, then the galaxy NEEDS to be reset. If bases is a problem, all the team needs to do is to create a way for players to claim a place, and on the base computer, chose to reset one of the previous bases, as long as it's possible. Meaning, mining bases should only be "restored" if a mining site is nearby and so on. Yeah, a pain in the ass to do, but possible, more or less. Now, if we want this game to look better, and to have more stuff happening, we cannot expect them to create MORE starts, because let's be real: It's already a pain to find stuff on what we have right now, eventually they will need to reset the game. They can maintain your progress, the things you have scanned, and all that, but in the end: NMS IS a game that is in a constant flux of updates, wanting a game with this kind of setup, where everything is generated by an algorithm, wanting for caves to look better, for dark holes to be more than a quick teleporter, giant gas planets, better terrain generation, there's a limit of what they can pull off without a reset. That's why they struggle to bring back the feel of 1.3 and below, they need to fundamentally change how the algorithm generates the universe, and sadly, the reset is needed for that. I understand why people get mad at it, but this is not a game where each planet is crafter by hand. It's not possible to add more and more and change more without changing the entire universe in the process, you guys can chill when Sean says: "Ok, for now on, we will only add Expeditions to the game, the situation NMS is now, is the final version and it's what we envision for it", OR, when he says "So, for now on this game will branch into two versions, the final one, and the expansion one where you guys will pay for an expansion that will make the game bigger, better, and will do a reset, but we will hold a server for both versions". Being attached to progress in an evolving game like this one, right now, especially the LORE of NMS being a simulation that is breaking down, we shouldn't be sad when the entire simulation changes because of reasons, I think it's awesome that this game can explain the weird changes, acknowledging that changes happened inside the game while making it part of the lore, the old abandoned space stations is such an awesome touch for the game, making us aware that even the NPC's understand that the simulation is breaking down XD. Anyway, that's what I think: Resets should be a thing every time the first number of the game changes. Minor updates and Fix updates can maintain the universe, but as soon as NMS goes from version 3.5 to 4.0, that 4 represents a change so big, it's impossible to maintain the game the same, so reset it. Simple. You don't like it? Well, too bad.
@Beeblebum
@Beeblebum 2 жыл бұрын
I never felt it needed to be that drastic... hehe. But I think until Beyond was released, the game was like the early access games we have now. I think Origins was the update that kind of set NMS on the track they wanted to be. Origins felt like that would have been the ideal update for a reset. I am sure HG knows how to deal already with bases and how to protect them. But for me it does not matter either way. NMS is such a fluid game that things can change, and the LORE would allow them to do it as well.. Atlas resetting and such..

Im down for a reset. As bummed as I would be in losing a few bases I spent a lot of time on, I would be glad for having more to do. And it would would take care of the problem I have with so many pointless base computers I placed. I dont remember why I put most where I did hahahah. And if my bases are the cost of game stability and improved dynamics, its worth it. My only worry is the nerfing of econimic things like farms and deposit regeneration. I really enjoy making things to help other people with resources and I would be bummed to lose all that. And of course, the ship hunting. If the ship locations are all changed, my enormous catalog is worthless.... though it wouldn't be hard to start all over. And a ship building element would render shiphunting obsolete. This game has been a good lesson in postitive and negative attatchments and dealing with them. It used to be painful to scrap a favorite ship to make room for another, or delete a base I worked hard to make. But now, I have no hesitation and see it as an opportunity. Thats huge, because attatchment to material things and the fear of losing them is the source of misery in the world. At least according to Buddha. Lol Good vid man.

I think many people looking at a reset as a loss of things, while it is just a fresh start and opportunity. When I see most MT's and ship shared lately, I don't feel as excited anymore. A reset would breath new life into the 2 branches, just because it would all be new. Same with Basebuilding.

This update might require a reset. They might be delayed with the new update because they might bit trying to avoid a reset. That update might be that big.

It could be, but I doubt it. The Last true reset we had was Next, and they made it clear the galaxy would be rebooted. I think A reset might be for in the future though, and Frontiers might prepare us for that.

Hello Games has to accept the fact that to implement fauna/flora with procedural assets, a reset is NECESSARY. I want the terrain from Foundation back in the game too. Yes, I want fauna/flora with procedural assets. Yes, I want Foundation terrain. Yes, I want a reset.

Personally, I don't really care for how the game looks or furthering those aspects because it already looks great and the biomes are tremendously varied. However, I would GLADLY and PROUDLY support a reset for a total rework and refinement of the grouping/matchmaking system! It's absolutely atrocious right now with partner's icons disappearing, shared jobs not completing or continuing correctly, not being able to join up at all, and so on. I also want a bit more consideration given to different playstyles as well. I played/completed the Blight Expedition on a different account than what I'm playing on now which means all of my progress from that account is gone including the expedition rewards which is just unfair in a lot of ways. It's definitely a "me problem," but it's a shared problem so a crossover system for accounts would also be really appreciated. I mean, I'm a pirate in-game that can't have a pirate flag because...I don't have the expedition rewards on this account? It's a playstyle and certain things like that shouldn't be locked by expedition I feel. Those particular rewards could be reworked to being unlocked by activity progression or even Quick Silver. I would also trade all of my profile stuff off for the chance to have more player customization options such as ship color and decal customizations. A galactic map device would be amazing as well...again worth a reset.

noun a line or border separating two countries. "international crime knows no frontiers" Similar: border boundary partition borderline dividing line bounding line demarcation line perimeter limit edge rim marches bounds the extreme limit of settled land beyond which lies wilderness, especially referring to the western US before Pacific settlement. "his novel of the American frontier" the extreme limit of understanding or achievement in a particular area. "the success of science in extending the frontiers of knowledge"

I have no clue what your point is of this comment... I am not speculating on what Frontiers means. I am talking about a server reset, which is not likely to happen with this update.

Just excited about the update. Didn't mean anything by the comment other than perhaps hype. Many possibilities given the definition. As far as a reset. I'm down. Perhaps they figured out how to without a reset. Alternative reality. I still don't think they have used the God equation to its full potential so perhaps it's more than we are thinking or perhaps less dramatic. I do know at one point they said a storyline was in production. Not sure what happened to it. Also they alluded to a reason for mechs and vehicles would all make since at somepoint. Perhaps a rest is needed and most I think would be down if it meant legit content.
