Is a pool worth the money?
A swimming pool brings joy to children and therefore parents. It offers a way for whole families to get together. A pool can also bring together people within your community and creates a great staycation opportunity. It may increase the value of your home, although you probably won't make the money back.
This video also answers questions like...
Is a swimming pool worth the money?
Does a pool increase my property value?
What does a swimming pool do for my property value?
What should I consider to decide if a pool is worth the investment?
Will I recoup the cost of installing a swimming pool?

I will throw my comments in on my pool experience. I have a small 12x28 inground as that’s al I had space for constant depth and love it. We don’t have big crowds but what big crowds spend the whole time actually in the pool vs on the deck anyway. I hear people say how much work they are... I opened mine very early and staying was easy it was clear in days. Shocked twice since opening. It’s a salt pool and it’s easier to maintain than traditional from my experience. My pool is about as much work in an entire season as my dog is in a week.. and one is more enjoyable than the other. We won’t get in to the details. Pools are very easy to open, close and maintain. Orient it properly with the sun and use a solar blanket and you’ll only be heating to get it started early and run it the last few weeks. We’re having five day heat wave very hot for this time of year and spending 5-6 hours outside after work while my lazy neighbour is now green and full of leaves is awesome. If you got enough energy to mow your lawn weekly you can handle a pool easy. Worth every penny and my small pool was only 15k with a concrete deck. You don’t need a 20x40 and driving board. Especially since pool season is only 12 weeks here. Sorry vid poster don’t mean to cost you sales!!

FYI for anyone watching, currently going through a FB pool build in 2021. All told it’s going to be about $100k. This includes: pool shell, install, retaining wall, patio, waterfall, patio furniture, fence w/ brick columns, dirt removal and some clean up. Landscaping to make it look good, not sure yet. The pool shell/install alone was about $70k, heater, paver coping, waterline tile, waterfall

I’m watching this while I’m having someone demolish my pool. They aren’t worth it - constant maintenance and expense in cleaning, equipment repairs or replacement, having to buy the expensive chemicals add just the right amount to the pool, test the water, on and on. If you really want one get an above ground pool and throw it away when you’re tired of it. And if you hire someone to maintain your pool, I guarantee they will not do as good a job as the you. And some insurance companies increase your insurance if you have a pool and you must fence it in.

Hi Dreamer. Sorry your pool experience was not a positive one. They are definitely added maintenance for the property, there's no hiding that. Our hope is that this video, along with the many others we've produced will help folks make a well informed decision about buying an inground pool. My kids prefer going to the beach since we live 10 mins walk away. There they can run, build sand castles, kick balls, throw frisbees, kayak and it’s all free. All my neighbours have pools and they use them two or three weekends per year and complain about $10,000 every year in electricity, gas, chemicals, and lack of back yard. A pool is a poor use of perfectly good money. Buy a yacht instead if you like wasting money like I did 😅

I’d look into saltwater. My mother has a pool and I had an above ground pool both with chlorine systems and it’s kind of a hassle to keep water balanced unless you pay someone. Also messing around with chlorine you get it on your clothes and if one little grain of it hits your clothes, it’s bleached. I’m looking into saltwater pools, the water isn’t actually salty, and it looks like a much easier way to keep water balanced. You just have to have someone build a saltwater pool. You shouldn’t use a saltwater system on a pool built for chlorine. Also, I believe it’s a good bit cheaper to maintain.

Worth it if you live in Florida and have solar. Pool is open year round and my solar system negates ALL electric cost. So many pool companies out here that they will maintain your pool for 50$ a week (since they are on your street anyways because your 10 neighbors have pools also). Property taxes are already low.

Hi ngog! Well of course we want to sell pools! But we also want to be honest and upfront with folks. Basically we've tried to answer every question we've ever been asked by those shopping for a pool. In this case, these were the exact positive points made by homeowners who were on the and decided to go ahead with installation. Hope this helps paint a better perspective for you than just "a guy trying to sell a pool". And more of a "pool guy trying to educate the consumer." 👍

I have a swimming pool and I never hated anything so much in my life. A Swimming Pool is a hole in the ground you fill up with money. They require constant maintenance and expensive repairs on a daily bases. Parts and chemicals for a pools are ridiculously expensive,. I'm afraid to take a vacation for fear another pipe will brake and flood the neighborhood or I will come home to another clogged up filter or a pool full of green slime. Is it worth the money? I would pay $25,000 to get rid of the damn thing if I could get approval and the expensive permit to rip the thing out and also pay for the Hazmat inspection. i only get in the Pool to scrub the tile and walls. i spent over $5000 on it so far this year and it still looks like crap after a root cracked the concrete which is going to devalue my house which I plan to sell because of this crap pool. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT BUY A SWIMMING POOL.

EZ Off Grid...We had NO idea this particular video would extract such emotion from folks...What type of pool do you have? When was it installed? Are you the original owner? You are right, to a point. Pools DO REQUIRE MAINTENANCE. Some pools are easier than others to maintain. The quality of products use matter. The installation process and materials matter. There's a slew of factors that can lead to a homeowner's perceived success or hatred of their pool. I say perceived, because at the end of the day that perception is the reality I say that to say, we work VERY hard to eliminate the hassle of pool ownership. To solve as many problems as possible so that the folks who buy our pools spend more time enjoying them than working on them. Thanks for watching and for weighing in.
