Jack Daw That is the only reason anyone should take out a second mortgage. Make sure you visit Gettysburg first if you haven’t already. I recommend around July 2nd-July 5th. The weather and the scenery is stunning during that time and the actual battles themselves occurred around those dates. Its almost hard to believe people would want to fight in such a stunningly beautiful place. Then after your visit, go create your design for your dream lawn!

Love Dave's idea of breaking it down to how much you're paying to enjoy the pool per hour. *❪Cost of pool ➖ value it adds to property❫ ➗ Estimated hours of enjoyment* . If a $55,000 pool adds $10,000 of value to the house and you plan to use it for 1000 hours you're looking at about $45/hr + maintenance expenses. 🏊‍♂️🏝

Rule of thumb is never pay more than 10% on a pool of what ur house is worth. Ex: $400k home buy a $40k pool

With the chemicals, water, cleaning machines, electricity, repairs. It's really expensive for a good sized pool. I know people with money who filled theirs in with dirt, they got tried of it.

My DH eventually hired people to demolish it all, haul it away and fill in the hole. We just don't get enough use out of it in the Northeast.

You live in Arizona. You’ll get enough enjoyment out of it over the years to make it worth it...plus whatever value it may add. Save up and pay cash though. You’ll enjoy it less if you’re making payments for years and paying interest on it. Also, see how the economy turns out. If we end up in a severe recession, you may be able to get a better deal if labor and material costs come down and times become difficult for pool builders. But then make sure you are hiring an experienced and well capitalized company with longevity who will be there to service any warranty issues.

Generally speaking a pool is a home buying deterrent. Unless you genuinely want one and have the cash to pay for it then do it. Just know in the future if and when you want to sell your house you could have a hard time selling it.

I wish I never had a pool now I am retired, all the kids are gone. I never use it anymore and out here in SoCal the beach is 15 mins away and it costs me $100 a month for a pool man. Not to mention extra for filter cleaning, replace salt cel etc. My advise don’t get a pool.

I live in Phoenix and pools do add quite a bit of value to your property it’s over 100 degrees half the year! Not many people have lawns, just rocks but she is spending quite a bit on some spa deal, could be had for half that.

Get a quality good size above ground pool , have a deck built around it be done . We have had underground pools , they don't get used often, unless you have kids from my experience. Maitanance can be expensive too. I would rather have a boat at the lake , then a hole in the back yard lol.

A swimming pool is a debt that keeps on costing more. Expect an average of $30 a month in costs if you care for it yourself. $10 per 1000 gallons per month to hire pool service (30 years ago) Its a $30,00 hole in the ground with $10K of actual materials.

I grew up poor in the hood. What people spend their money on is none of my business. I know one thing, live like you still broke and living in the hood and you'll never be broke and never be in the hood. 60k on a 400k house is not worth the excitement.

Every time you spend it should be considered an investment. $60K to blow on a pool when you could take the grandkids to the community pool when they visit would be much better. You would never use a pool on a daily basis.

A pool is like owning a boat or a plane. You just keep spending money on it - chemicals, maintenance, repairs. Actually using it costs more. Call any pool service and ask them how much it costs to replace the pump, the filter system, the heater. You WILL have to do that at some point. Get a better handle on the true cost. The cost of putting a pool in the backyard is just the start of the cost.

The additional expenses and frustrations that come along with owning a pool will only amplify the existing marital problems. Don't put the hole in your backyard.
