Omonoia generally is much safer than 15 years ago, there are just some streets around that place that need some caution during the night

Omonoia square is fine, its the streets around that is dangerous especially in the night.

there is no reason for someone to go and visit omonia especially at night. IT has nothing to offer. so dirty dangerous and full of immigrants. Tourist must avoid those places. Go to north or south suburns to see beautiful places .

My grandma is living in Omonia. I counted 32 Injections and i saw a lot of people injecting and smoking Dr*gs.

They seem to have Improved the street lighting. Back in 2012, the streets were desolate, dark, didn’t feel like a place you wanted to walk around by yourself late at night.

هذا هراء من اين جئت بهذه المعلومات. انا كل سنة مرتين ازور اثينا واسكن في فندق الما هوتيل في ساحة امونيا ودائما في الليل اذهب والف في ساحة امونيا الى ساعات متاخرة من الليل ولم اواجه اي مشكلة. اما انك تذهب في الازقة الضيفة من جهة شارع اخر نون او الشوارع الضيقة بجانب مونسترتكي ليلا. اكيد سوف تصادفك مشكلة وفي كل عواصم العالم في ساعات متاخرة من الليل الازقة الضيقة تكون خطرة. اذن ماذا تقول عن امستردام او روتردام في الازقة الضيقة مساءا الخطورة لاتتجاوز 1٪ في اثينا بالنسبة الى روتردام وامستردام او فرانكفورت.

I have been to athens and omonia before and it didn't look dangerous

10pm Nov '23, walked from the fountain up to the motor museum then down to the Wyndham hotel, felt far safer than around my hometown in the north of England.

Hello NIck you should know that from June till the end of September the government ''cleans up'' the area for the touristic period. Kato Patisia are more dangerous than Omonia DT. I leave in the area since i was six years old and now i am 43 nothing happened to me except one time . Many respect. O and Athens is not Greek anymore.

Spending the last years predominantly in these areas you explore I really don't think it is dangerous. I have never been attacked or felt unsafe and I know many non-Greek ladies who moved to Viktorias and love it. As you can tell from the comments a lot of this 'it is dangerous' idea comes from xenophobia (there sadly is still this idea that brown and black people are not safe) and the dirt. Yes the area is dirty and has a lot of junkies but they keep to themselves. Growing up in London we had dirt, junkies and well gangs who would indiscriminately attack you, not even for money just because. So for me it is safe. For example I have had several attempted attacks in Barcelona but people don't call it a dangerous city. I do agree that in the past there was more of a gang culture and threat in this part of Athens but really these days it is fine.

OMONOIA, Plateia victorias, KATO PATISIA, METAXOURGEIO and areas like these are too dangerous at night...Only black people and drug adicts live there and walk on the streets and try to rob and steal passers by. IF YOU WAN TO STAY SAFE, then u SHOULD AVOID OMONOIA. All greek people know these ghetto areas and no one goes there....thats why you only see pakistani/black people or tourists that booked a hotel there without knowing how much dangerous this area is....

Hey Nick, I watched your earlier video about Omonia, among other videos on here. I stayed there about a month ago (Acropol Hotel) and felt pretty safe around the main square area. We did wander to the north west a few streets around dusk and decided to turn back, it didn't feel intimidating just a bit more confined and enclosed. We also went north to the Archaeological in the early evening and that felt fine. I've seen worse places on my travels and liked the easy access down Athinas to Monastiraki and other places. Despite the fact it gets bad press, I felt generally safe, though kept my wits about me - I'd stay there again. Take care and nice follow up video!

well my nazi feelings friend, people have plenty skin collors, there are blacks, white and others. It doesn't matter your skin colour! your soul colors matters more! that meaning that your color skin is white ,but your character color looks very dark!

If you want to go to the actual ghetto or cartel areas of Athens go to Zefyri,Ano Liosia,Menidi . Omonoia is super safe next to these places 😂😂

We came Athens 2 days ago with my girlfriend.Before we came we had thought we would see nice, safe streets because of videos on youtube. Now we definately think exact opposite, streets are full of scary immigrant, dark-skinned people ,also whole streets smell piss, It is really possible that you are attacked by those or stolen.We have been attacked by weed eater twice on side streed in Omonia.

Athens is very dangerous the centre is a ghetto. Drugs, gangs, crime, homeless. Admire your courage walking in this area and you are lucky

I'd say it's better than 99% of hoods and downtown areas of unclesam land but as others have said you really need not be hanging around this area late at night. In the day I'd recommend going there for Stani yogurt😀

Hello,i don't think there are cheap hotels around Omonia anymore.

As a Greek I think that if you avoid this places then you can have one of the best vacations ever ! BUT beware of the surrounding areas ( the little streets in omonoia) bcs they can get REALLY dangerous. The Reason that everyone thinks that omonoia isnt that bad is because of the fact that criminals don't go and steal stuff at the centre of omonoia . They are on the neighborhoods which are surrounding the omonoia square! I Quarantee you that if you go on this neighborhoods you'll find a lot of drug dealers+ people that do drugs!

Athens doesn't have ghettos in the American way. So it's unlikely that you'll have much trouble walking around at night as the average tourist. BUT There is 0 reason for anyone to wander around Omonoia (and particularly the streets around it) at night. As others have said, it's dirty and dangerous (compared with walking elsewhere). So if you can, please avoid it.

So, you basically walk around Omonia but ask if the whole Athens is safe? Hmm...
