I have a long discussion thread about this on their own KZfaq promo video. The fork looks and seems great, isn't that enough? Claiming it's the first just cheapens it and makes them seem untrustworthy.

I have a gravel bike bike with a Cannondale Ultra Fatty Headshok fork and when it’s turned on while riding gravel trails the difference is not just noticeable but gives much improved comfort and control. Having the suspension is quite different ride from a shock stem or seatpost like Redshifts products.

Really wholeheartedly agree with nearly all this guy said (except the part of the 50 mm negatively affecting riding). So kudos to Canecreek - the design ideas are completely on point. Now - how this fork actually rides will be interesting to see and test. I definitely would like to see something like this as a sleek and lightweight gravel bzw. overlander xc fork in around 60 - 80 mm travel.

I use the Fox AX gravel fork and I really wouldn't want to ride gravel without it. It's so well tuned, I just leave it on soft and rarely bother with lockout either. It's easy to say "just ride a hard tail MTB" but the geometry is still very different. Maybe a hardtail MTB from 1999 would be more similar, but a modern MTB is a completely different beast. The only downside I can see to this is the price which is pretty eye watering. I can't see many takers when it's the price of a bike!

I like the look of it and would love to test it out. I have two diverges with future shocks and I do think it really helps smooth out the ride. I think it would be very useful on really chunky gravel. I look forward to your review of the fork.

Interesting idea but lack of remote lockout would be a deal breaker for me. Add this to the 30mm version and I'd consider getting one for my next gravel bike.

I would prefer something narrower and more aero for city use, on my flat bar fixie or road bike, with a disks up front. Maybe a bladed inverted fork for cobblestones and the local bikepaths. And priced well under other high end light, conventional and more complex forks. But i really like the 40mm version w/lock out. And would work well on the hardtai,l particulary on the faster trails.

Yeah, but 'service intervals'. I run a one legged version like this on an mtb converted to a fast cross/atb/gravel thing - and the short service intervals compared to the hours a rider is likely to put into this sort of bike, is a 'next-level' P.I.T.A.

I think that gravel bikes in general are not made to so rough terrains that demands suspension. 700x45 or 50 mm tires or 650B wheels with 54mm or something else, combinated with correct pressures can resolve. To really rought terrains a MTB works better. But thats my opinion, I prefer do some upgrades in my gravel with this money, but using a gravel suspension can make sense to some riders.

seems legit, but like he said, the frame has to work with the fork. so are they going to provide some frame geometry numbers that will optimize performance with the forks, or do they just want ppl to drop over 1k and hope it works?

For me, a gravel bike is pure simplicity. A suspension fork adds another point that must be serviced. Will it be like with MTB forks every 50 hours to service the lower legs and every 200 hours a complete replacement of all seals? No thanks.

I've put 5000 miles on a Fox AX gravel fork (including commuting in some pretty horrendous winter conditions) and it's still buttery smooth like new. Haven't had to do anything to it yet!

Fox’s recommended service interval is 125 hours of riding for this fork. Without this, you risk damaging the fork. Scratch the fork stanchion etc... I had a mountain bike before gravel and a freshly serviced fork just always worked better.

They really put the damper on the brake side? So when if/when it fails, the damper fluid also takes out the front brake pads. Oops. Guess no one has experienced that feature of the lefty. Otherwise, somewhat more compelling than fox/rs offerings.

The price is absurd. I can get a used MTB for thprice of just the fork to go trash it on the forest trails... He needs to sell so he downplays any possible drawbacks but the truth is that rigid gravel forks provide enough compliance for typical gravel riding while making the bike faster than any suspension fork.

Once you start adding forks to a Gravelbike, you might as well just get a full-sus XC mountain bike. A Specialized Epic World Cup or Trek Supercaliber make excellent Gravelbikes. My own Gravel bike is a 2023 Epic Evo with 700x47 Specialized Pathfinder Pro Gravel tires. It's just as fast as Gravelbike on pavement and gravel but still performs like an XC bike on singletrack.

oh well, that's how life works i guess, people don't stay in their 5 boxes, they see a market gap between 2 boxes and try to make a product for that. And at the end - why not, the geometry of a MTB feels totally different compared to my road or gravel bike, the handlebar alone makes a giant difference for speed and feeling and there is a significant weight difference and all that stuff. If people really mix street and real gravel, why not. For many (most) everything "good enough" is probably better than a specialized (not the brand;) bike. I would not buy it, because it has no place in my profile and bike collection, but let people buy what they think they need/want.

Deja vu… seems that not many people remember how the mountain bike was created and how it evolved…Take a road bike, widen the tires, improve the brakes, toss the drop bars and add some suspension. Chase down Gary Fisher, he’ll fill you in. 50 years later the cycle repeats but great news is that the ideal gravel bike (XC MTN bike) has matured to perfection.
@spacehed23
@spacehed23 Ай бұрын
Except, the use cases are very different. I’m old enough to remember riding early mountain bikes and they were literally designs for riding down mountains and over extreme terrain. That’s not what a gravel bike is at all. They are for riding quickly if rough surfaces. Yes. Gravel bike is versatile but it’s nowhere near a MTB. Yes there’s overlaps between where you can go but I would never ride down the side of a rough hill on drop bars 😂
Ай бұрын
@@spacehed23 "They are for riding quickly if rough surfaces." --- yes, exactly. Then who is this product for? There WILL BE measurable performance penalty, regardless of what the sales guy says.... Whoever wants to fly over moderately rough terrain and even more during paved transits is usually perfectly fine with a carbon fork and well selected tire options. And whoever isn't after speed and wants to navigate rough terrain beyond the capabilities of drop bars and gravel bikes in general will go for a MTB with regular suspension fork. So for whom, again, is this product....? Maybe people who actually objectively need a MTB but desperately want the coolness factor of a gravel bike to go with their moustache and a checked flannel shirt but won't admit it...?

Gravel riding was never meant to be riding a bike on dirt with a suspension, front, or rear!!! Gravel riding was and is all about grass roots!!! Here we go again, the industry putting something down the consumers' throat, as well as the grass roots Gravel rider and racer something they (we) don't need or want that drives up the price of an entity that has been and continues to be about simplicity (grass roots)!!! Marketing to increase profits!!!
