Actually, you can swim all year in the ocean at Danang if you are a strong swimmer like me. Unfortunately, the lifeguards are somewhat overzealous at red flagging the beach because weaker swimmers don't seem to know when they are beyond their abilities and that ruins it for everyone else. You can avoid this issue by swimming further down the coast past Marble Mountain but you do so at your own risk. Be self-responsible. Same goes for motorbikes - if you aren't confident then take a Grab taxi. As for Nha Trang, I prefer Danang because, quite honestly, there are two many drunk Russians in Nha Trang. It's just a sad fact.

Thanks for sharing this information. We did see a group of swimmers swimming in the red flag zone, but it looked like they knew what they were doing. I thought they were breaking the rules at the time, but you just explained that it's okay but it's at your own risk. Thanks for the info. Do you live in Da Nang? How long have you lived there? It's great to get comments from people who really know the area.
@BrianBaileyedtech
@BrianBaileyedtech 9 ай бұрын
Sorry, I should have clarified. No, it isn't OK to swim where it is red flagged because the lifeguards will order you out of the water. However, what I meant was that further down the long beach - and it basically goes all the way to Hoi An - you can find places without lifeguards. If you are a good swimmer I think it is totally fine to swim there and no one will bother you. I have swum in far more challenging conditions in Bali and Mexico where I was actually at my limit after 15 minutes. This is far safer than that. Nonetheless, I don't want to be accused of giving bad advice so I will leave it at that. Yes, I started coming to Danang in 2018 and have been 8 times for up to several months at a time (I used to live in China before the pandemic and have been travelling non-stop the past 4 and a half years). I will be there tomorrow afternoon after an 18 month absence - can't wait!)@@snailtravelers

I think we feel the same about Danang as you do. We enjoyed most of it, but don't feel a burning desire to return. Nha Trang has a similar feel, but seems more lively. Like Danang, Nha Trang has a nice beach, and an even nicer promenade. I think it's also laid out a bit better for walkers like us. Between the two we would pick Nha Trang, but we won't rule out returning to Danang down the road to see how it changes. We are looking forward to our trip to Hanoi.

@tranduy2668 Well said, it's all true. Da Nang is an amazing city - I've spent 5 months here now and the city has so much to offer, all the nature and history around Da Nang as well as the modern bits, stylish cafes, bars and great restaurants as well as nightlife in the city. If anything, Da Nang is still underrated. Coming here during rainy season and in such unually abysmal weather as we see in the video obviously won't have done much to fall in love with the city. :)

I like Egypt and Japan, I usually don't go to the same country twice, But I do for Egypt and Japan, I love Sushi and the Bullet train in Japan, went to Hiroshima, I also love waking up in front of my pyramids having breakfast and I made friends with the manager and was invited to his house several times for dinner, my favorite was camel meat, Jordan is good, my friend always makes me dinner when I go there! You just got to talk to people and make friends, learn the basic words and google translator helps, about to do another 10 countries, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Taiwan, HK, Korea and waiting for permission for north Korea and spend a month in Danang after Saigon and Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, I will be looking for you guys in my travels. Worst was India and Kathmandu, total Chaos lol. Abu Dhabi was nice and I am sure I am going to call Vietnam my next Home, so cheap.

Hi, I noticed watching this that you said you live in Turkey. I was considering Istanbul but I require 3 taxi trips a day (a motorcycle leg), and I was wondering if there is a way to get taxi transparency in price, since I'd be using about 240 trips a month ( ! ) for short distances to restaurants and grocery. Grab taxis in Malaysia are reliable and cheap, but I was wondering about the taxi situation in Istanbul. Any information would be helpful. Thank you for your videos (I subscribe).
@snailtravelers
@snailtravelers 11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately Turkey doesn't have ride sharing apps like Grab or Uber (as far as I know). There is an app called Bitaksi but it just requests the taxi to pick you up at your location and doesn't set the price. It's important to make sure the driver turns on the meter (just say "taxi meter" to the driver) otherwise you could get overcharged. Taxis in Turkey are a little more expensive compared to using Grab in Malaysia. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Yes, it is overrated. On the opposite side of the beach, people litter and leave trash everywhere. There’s an excess of motorbikes , and they disregard pedestrian crossings. Traffic pollution is also a significant issue. The city lacks attractions for tourists beyond sightseeing and dining.

Vietnam is a good place to live relatively cheaply and doss around whilst you figure out what to do with your life, but other than drinking coffee, eating overhyped average food, smoking and drinking it's a mundane place to travel to imo. Thailand is way more fun for a holiday. Even Malaysia has good diving and more things to do. I lived in VN for a few years and met some cool expats but as a tourist I think it's pretty lame.

Fair enough, thanks for the feedback. I made a separate video about Hanoi and assumed that the viewers would watch both, but in reality that is probably not the case. To us Da Nang felt like it was created for tourism. Hanoi felt more like a traditional Vietnamese city, and although there are many tourists, it doesn't feel like tourism is the purpose of the city. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
