1. Belted Notes
For a note to be considered Golden, it must be consistently "perfect" in the vocalists' range. They must be able to sustain it with resonance, and be able to sing it with resonance on a very consistent basis.
Golden: 3.0 points
Ringing inconsistent/consistently grounded: 2.5
Grounded inconsistent: 2
Free consistent: 1.75
Inconsistently free: 1
Tense: .5
Underbelts are notes that are ringing under the vocalists' starting note, and as Dimash is a tenor that means notes under E4. They can either earn 1 point for inconsistent resonance, or 1.5 for consistent.
2. Low Notes
Golden: 2.0
Full Fairly Consistently: 1.75
Inconsistently full: 1.25
Inconsistently free: 0.75
Tense/Airy: 0.25
3. Head Voice
Golden: 2.0
Inconsistently Resonant or consistently grounded 1.75
Inconsistently grounded 1.25
Inconsistently free 0.75
Tense 0.25
4. Whistle Notes
Golden: 0.3
Not golden but Musical: 0.2
Off-key: 0.1
8. Vocal Effects:
For each skill that the vocalist is capable of, they earn a point. If they are a master of this skill, they earn two points.
9. (Lack of) Vocal Issues: Here, if the vocalist has any major issues, they are deducted a varying amount of points from the ten given in this category.
10. Consistency/Longevity: If the vocalist has struggled with consistency in the past or has drastically declined from their prime, they will have points deducted in this category from 5.

Disclaimer: I did not know Dimash very well or like him very much at all before editing this video, but I can now say I am immensely impressed by his voice, though his music is not personally for me. Please keep all disagreements civil! And I was going to add commentary but I recently lost my voice and figured I would just upload now instead of wait haha

With someone who sings in as many genres as Dimash does (almost every one of them that ever existed), I can't imagine a comment like 'his music is personally not for me." Saying "his music" makes it sound as if you are putting all of his different styles into one can. It's like saying "those people" when you refer to people of a certain country, race, nationality, religion, sexual orientation----all of whom have differences among them that you would like even if some have beliefs or behavior that "isn't for" you. Perhaps you have yet to experience a Dimash song or performance that is for you, but they are there.

Dimash is a different artist we could say. Because there is not only a perfect technique, perfect pitch, a crystalline voice, a unique charisma. There is also a man of integrity, a respectful artist, a man who is capable of stopping to listen patiently and sweetly to someone who wants to talk to him in the middle of a concert, an airport, a walk... A human being with very rooted that for some reason, go beyond the screens. It is difficult today to come across this type of positive idols in every sense of the word. He will surely have flaws because he is a human being, but behind so many virtues, I think it is impossible to see them. Excellent video 👌

Dimash is a mix of talent and hard work. He works very hard and has trained for +20 years but he was also born with longer vocal cords then normal people so that’s why he can do so much bizarre things. I actually think he’s the best vocalist EVER!

I think you should give Dimash some bonus points for stamina (first song in concert vs last song) as he often sings twice as long and twice as many songs as other vocalists. His last concert (Almaty, Sept 2022) freatured 31 songs and lasted nearly 4 hours! Also, please consider changing the font on your texts....it is barely readable. Thank you for the interesting video; it would be cool to see you evaluate more men--if only to show how spectacularly Dimash excels as the male of the species!

For those who say that Dimash has support problem - The strength of the resonance depends on the space the sound has to reverberate. By lowering the larynx and raising the soft palate you open up the throat, immensely increase the size of the vocal tract and, thus, the size of the resonance space, the space the sound as to reverberate in, which immensely amplifies the resonance. This is the reason why it is used in classical singing (in which you need to able to sing over an orchestra without a mic), and Dimash is a bel canto singer... Educate yourself " professors"

Bonjour. 🙏🏼👍🇫🇷

And he has done so much that we don’t see in other vocalists. His learning about Western and Eastern music, vocal skills in many regions, that many vocalists lack of knowledge. He is the definition of COMPLETE vocalist about vocals and musical knowledge in general. Genres, tones, textures, caliber, versatility, vocal stamina, long breath control, range, develop in all registers that he sings . Btw, he has heady mix up to C6. His territory of headvoice is G6, I think! Then after G6, he flips to whistle, his whistles are always in 7th octaves where most male and female vocalists’ whistle are in 6th octave already.

I would actually go as far and say that he has the best head voice among any male singer I have ever heard and I have heard a lot! Lows a surprisingly good, growls and frys are controlled, mid belts are great, high belts and mixed notes are very sharp and shrill but technically still impressive, flageolet like I've never heard from a male and a functional whistle register (though most is inhaled). Great control, outstanding stamina, great agility and musicality, confidence AND looks. Overall he's phenomenal, but still far from perfect. His Style and tone are things you need to get used to.

This was very interesting! Thanks for doing it. I'm also glad that you have come to appreciate Dimash's voice more through doing this analysis. I don't really know anything about singing and vocal ability (except what I've learned over the past year of listening to Dimash reactions). I was wondering about the whistle notes, why was the clip from "Diva Dance" from the Bastau concert not judged for that also? I think it had quite a few. Also it would be interesting to have a section for breathy voice singing. Dimash has done a lot of that recently (particularly in "Okay" , " Ikanaide" and "The Story of One Sky" in the first few minutes.) I've heard people say that it's very hard to sing like that. Also I was wondering in the 'distortion" section why the final "We're choosing life" bit from "The Story of One Sky" wasn't included. I've heard that it has more distortion than reactors had previously heard Dimash use. Perhaps whoever sent the clips just didn't include it. Anyway, so many people rave about Dimash that as a non-musically trained person I don't really know if they are accurate or not (though I like his music and am a fan) so it's interesting to see a more controlled sort of analysis. I'm also wondering if it's possible to have mastered a technique but then purposely not use it in order to express a particular emotion in the song you are singing. For example, could Dimash make his vibrato less stable on purpose to convey some emotion? (I'm not one of those fans who thinks he's perfect in every way but I was just wondering because if so, you would have to be sure to judge vibrato based on songs where he was purposely trying to make his vibrato even. I'm not entirely sure how you would know though. Maybe include some of his more operatic songs like "Ti Amo Cosi" or "Ulisse") Dimash is the first to say that he is still young and still learning. There is an interesting video that shows his development on the song "SOS" from 2014-2021 or so. Even I can hear the improvement there! Anyway, thanks again! I really enjoyed this and I hope I haven't asked any inappropriate questions here, I am just sincerely curious.

As for the fact that he uses excessive melismas, runs, riffs. This is his choice of music, he is very fond of his culture, including music. You probably don't know, but I will tell you that they are used in a very large dose in the traditional music of the Caucasus countries, for example in Turkish, Georgian, Kazakh traditional music. There can be as many such details in one song as there won't be in 100 pop songs together. So stop writing nonsense.

Dimash is so hard for me because on one side I am always IMPRESSED by what he can do but on the other side I often dislike his artistic choices as a singer. It's hard FOR ME to conect to his singing because his performances feel like a singing circus rather than a thought out artistic expresion of what the song is trying to convey. I also dislike that the classical (operatic) quality of his voice comes and goes and I feel like a lot of times it just doesn't suit the song. Also his inconsistent vibrato sometimes bugs me because he makes it extremely noticeable. So although I think he's arguably - or maybe even decidedly - the best singer in terms of capability. I can never enjoy more than one Dimash song every now and then because I'm never fully on board with his choices. But then again, that's me. A lot of people absolutely love him.

What pulled Dimash's score a lot was his Vocal Range score, which exceeds 100, a perfect score in all his range, from Low Voice to Head Voice. Plus he has better agility, breath control and absurd vocal control in general. Some singers that I believe can compete, maybe Sohyang, who would score very well in Belting/Mix Voice and Head Voice, Lisa Fischer who has a great balance in her entire vocal range. Patti LaBelle, Melba Moore, Rachelle Ferrell, Katrina Velarde, Vanessa Amorosi, Natalie Weiss and Sandy Patty could all score well overall.
