Once you cleaned with the liquid did it take care of the mistracking

Months later I watch this video again to tell you your right! The first time I saw this video I commented that I used the gel for months with no problem, and it was true! But now a few months later , sure enough I experienced "mild mistracking"! I didn't have any "stylus fluid" and that time so I used "distilled water" on a stylus brush! I guess this is a "withdrawal " of my original statement! You were right!

Hi Ron, welcome back. These gel stylus cleaners are a problem. I have a number of friends who have used them and had problems. You can only tell the problem with a microscope. (From my investigationsvia a friend of mine who is a chemical engineer, all of these gels use the same base compound from China but with a different colouring added. Some people have used these gel products to clean records as well, and td they generaly leave a residue on the records as well. The best way I have found to clean stylus is with an Audio Technica AT-637 Ultrasonic Stylus cleaner (sadly no longer made) ( Dynavox HFC-50 is similar on Ebay) (also Flux unit from Germany, but expensive). These units use micro vibrations on the brush to clean stylus with no residue (turn of the audio system when using it, gets loud). Best brush I have used is the SC-2 Discwasher (still use my original one). Another good one is to use the white side of the Magic Eraser. Use it same way as Gel but leaves no residue and is very cheap (just don't get it wet). Glad to see you back. I thought maybe you had left us...........Enjoy the music.

I stopped using my gel when this story first got out. I hadn’t noticed any issues on my stylus but I just wanted to be safe. I cleaned it with liquid even though the manufacturer advises against it but I am only going to do that every few months or so. Hopefully it won’t damage it. I only have about 6 more months on this stylus anyway before I will need to replace it.

Hey Ron! Glad to see you make a vid again, buddy! I became aware of the film left behind by those gel type cleaners a couple months ago, when I read about JR at WAM figuring it out, then Mikey Fremer doing an article on Analog Planet. I started using a magic eraser a while back then lowering my stylus into some Blu tack. Every once in a while I’ll use a cleaning solution on a record brush like you’ve got. I think a lot of people will appreciate this video. A clean stylus and a clean record is a happy record and stylus. Thanks, Ron!

Great to see you Ron and fantastic video on proper needle cleaning. I recently have started using the Hudson Hi-Fi Turntable UV Stylus Cleaner but I do not use the liquid cleaner. I'm not a fan of using liquid cleaner on styluses.

I'm uncomfortable with the gel Type cleaners been using one for a couple year's but I'm going back to the simple old brush and liquid

At the internet I only opposite advises at every subject one can think about. So also about this cleaning subject: With liquid you destroy the glue of your tip. Must I throw away my just ordered DS Audio ST 50 gel cleaner when it arrives next week.

Hey, good to see you. There are several different brands of that gel are they all the same ? I need to check mine out. I've been quite lax lately. I have the brush and liquid as well. I used to have one of those discwashers brushes. I really liked it. I've even tried to find another one.

Library of Congress uses gel stylus cleaners. The movement of the stylus is massive compared to whatever thin film may or may not be present.

Hi Ron. I saw this report on the Vinyl Attack channel a few months ago. I've been using the Onzow Zerodust (which was mentioned as one of the culprits) gel cleaner for about 2 years on my Ortofon 2M Blue. Luckily I have not noticed any degradation in sound. I also purchased a USB microscope to inspect my stylus and don't see any buildup. None the less, I stopped using it and went back to using a LAST stylus cleaner (I don't have any liquid cleaner yet). I have an ultrasonic cleaner for my records (I use it in conjunction with my VPI RCM). I would be curious on any thoughts of using this on my stylus. I could immerse just the tip into the US cleaning fluid which consists of 90% distilled water, 10% isopropyl alcohol (99%) and 1% Ilfotol (surfactant).

Ortofon recommends not using liquids to clean the stylus on their carts. They suggest the liquid can move up the stylus and damage the stylus cement (I guess this is how the stylus is attached). They suggest simply using a brush. I've been using the gel but only have a few times. Definitely going to stop going forward and simply clean with a brush on a regular basis.

Blu-Tack is the best thing just a big ball of blu tack leave it on the tt, massage it well for about 5 minutes first. just dip it in and then straight onto the record. you should polish your styli with green emery paper you can buy it from Linn

Ortofon advices to not use any chemical cleaners for their stylus’s. Just a heads up if you use Ortofon, and your reading this.

Always check the stylus with a microscope!

Due to the temperature the stylus gets up to while playing a record that gel really bakes on. Don’t use it.

these days with the inexpensive plug-in USB microscopes, it's not to difficult to actually inspect your own stylus to see if it's clean. Shouldn't need to spend more than $50

Just use water and a stylus brush works great
