Yes, Selección de Maestros needs to air out a few minutes to open up, after that the aromas are incredible. I do limit myself when I drink this, cause it is delicious and I don’t want to finish the bottle too fast. 😅

I was reading an article that talked about how Europe is the best place to get rum. Rum brands have a easier time getting their rums into tne Europe since they don’t check the labels until they are on the market unlike the US. Steve, you are going to be able to get the more unique rums that the US can’t. Sounds amazing. When you get the chance, try the Plantation smoked pineapple rum. It is sweet and a little smokey.

It’s swings and roundabouts. It’s not easier, No. but it is a bigger market and worth more ££££. So yeah, brands will always make an effort to do special stuff over here. BUT the brand has to be big enough (or did do) to bottle at 2 different sizes. Most Caribbean Rums are bottled to 750ml for the US market. Well if they can’t afford a second bottling run at 700ml, they can’t ship to the UK. (Basically 2 different size bottles). So there’s plenty of stuff you guys get that we don’t. Although a lot are working on it. For example Holmes Cay is coming now. But still no Hamilton. And we’ve only just literally got Barbancourt over here.

⁠@@StevetheBarmanRumReviewsBarbancourt white is delicious. The Hamilton Demerara rum is owned by DDL so it should be the same as El Dorado but less sugar. I’m so glad we get 50ml more than you do. Just come to the US and I’ll get you a bottle of Hamilton Demerara rum and the Florida Rum Society. Also, Havana Club is owned by the Cuban government so I’m glad we don’t get it.

Hang on…Doesn’t Ed Hamilton own Hamilton Rum?? Think you’ll find Ed is simply a Bottler/Importer and buys Rum from all over. (In essence the same as like Smith & Cross for example). So while Ed’s “Hamilton 86 Demerara” is obvs from Guyana…it’s not owned by DDL. DDL simply make A LOT of Rum every day and then sell it off to people/brands like Ed who go off to create their own Brands. (That’s pointing out nothing bad about the Rum. It’s just simply showing that ownership is not as clear cut…and actually once it leaves the Distillery…and this applies to Jamaica/Barbados too…once it leaves the distillery, anyone can do anything they want with it. Hence here in the UK, the vast majority of Spiced Rum brands actually use DDL Rum for their base Rum cos it’s decent, but cheap as chips! Also pointing out…while DDL may no longer Dose El Dorado, it doesn’t mean all Guyanese Rum isn’t dosed. Once it’s bought, anyone can do anything with it.)

Cool vid - Cask Strength I think means a dram hasn't been watered down after being removed from the barrel. Most Cask Strength range between 50 - 75% i think

Hi Steve!🤝Just one correction on The Selection De Maestros-there's no young rums in it. This is a blend of 9 to 15 year old rums. And a 9 y.o. rum can't be regarded as a young rum)

Are you absolutely sure the Youngest Rum in the bottle is 9yo...?! And just for giggles... what is the definition of Young Rum? For example, in some camps, Appleton 8yo is a "Young Rum" cos they have 12/15/21yo...plus all the Hearts stuff. So if Appleton 8 is Young... why can't Havana SDM be young? Especially when there is no Age Statement...and actually no official line on the Rums used in the Blend. Go... 😇😂

It’s worth noting that the Whisky Exchange is not an “Independent Retailer”, as they are owned by Pernod Ricard, who of course part-own Havana Club. I expect to see many more bottlings from Pernod-owner distilleries for sale through the Whisky Exchange in the future.

Yeah, you’re correct. PR bought them late in 2021…well early doors 2022 by the time it was finished. But it’s still cool. Nothing to be looked down upon. I mean Sukhinder ain’t ever gonna be controlled by PR, so it’ll always be run like an Indie. But it’s nice for them to have more financial clout should they ever need it. And opens a couple of extra doors. I mean, let’s face it, Master of Malt is owned at top level by AB InBev. But you don’t see them doing Stella or Bud on special… 😇😂😂 But it did give them the clout to purchase TheDrinkshop domain and Business entities etc when they went tits up a few months ago.

See my reply on the other channel to another of your posts. Thats should explain "Navy Rum". But to my mind, not only is it one of the best, but it's also one of the very few out there, the BLACK TOT Blenders/Masters releases... 50th Anniversary, 2021, 2022 and now 2023. These are True Navy Rums at Navy Strength, in a Navy Style. Most other Rums claiming to be Navy Rum are either "Navy Strength" or "Navy Style". But my other reply should explain it better. Keep your eyes peeled in 2024 though as there is a major Brand releasing a PROPER Navy Rum which tasted flippin amazing back in June this year! (I was very lucky to get an early release sample)

It's currently on offer for £65 so I've ordered one for myself 😊 I thought the Seleccion de Maestros was a bit too oaky when I first opened it but now that it's got a bit of air the complexity and layers along with the balance make it a fantastic sipper, can't wait for the 11 to arrive!
