I am finding so much hope from the messages on abuse. My now thankfully ex-husband. He abused me for 13 years, and when I finally left he and 2 friends raped me. I have been dealing with suicidal thoughts for so long! Thank you for dealing with such difficult topics. I dont feel so alone and broken.

Yes, Jesus did not address homosexuality, at least not specifically. In his story about the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus did say "they have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to them." "Moses and the prophets" includes the section from Leviticus that Pastor Jeremy read; but, more importantly, it includes God's promise of a Savior and His plan to forgive all sinners who believe that promise.

Good points. Ty for sharing those verses. This video is very helpful. We are all sinners. We need to encourage and support each other, not judge and hate each other. It’s important to have a compassionate, understanding, empathetic view of others so that we can spread God’s love, share His Word and help serve and support others when they need it. We all sin and we all have struggles in life. Let’s get through it together.

unfortunately he's contorted what the Bible says, claiming male-bedders means homosecsuals (and asserting proof exists to that effect), making out that "hetero-flesh" means men doing it with men, calling pagan revelry is the same as loving relationships, and misunderstanding the law of moses and ignoring what the NT says about it. Just about everything he says in this talk is wrong.

One genuine question as a Christian, I did not finish the video so not sure if this is addressed. how is it okay for us to condemn homosexuality nowadays and no longer condemn divorce which Jesus clearly states at sermon at the mount? My point is not that we should condemn both but that we are inconsistent and hypocritical and what parts of the Bible we treat as law that applies today and what does not. I think as we evolve as Christians we decide which parts of the Bible we no longer need to follow literally and judge people over and I hope many years from now we will look at how we treat and view LGBT communities and think wow we were really dropping the ball there. If I am wrong may Jesus have mercy on me, I’m trying to do his most important command, love your God above all else, love your neighbor as yourself

Christians do "condemn" (using your words) divorce. I do not think Christians condemn either. There are always going to be segments with any group that may be extreme or hateful. As Christians it is also necessary to share with how and why the practice of homosexuality and divorce is detrimental and harmful to the individuals involved and speak truth in love but speak truth none the less.

I believe you have hit the nail on the head. The Two Commandments of Christ are, as Jesus Himself told us, the basis of all the law and the prophets. If we find (or interpret) something in the Bible which is not in accord with these two commandments, we can know that it is false. Clearly, neither of the Two Commandments prohibits homosexuality or homosexual practices. It really is as simple as that, yet how some struggle to maintain their prejudices by rejecting the very words of the one whom they claim to follow! Unfortunately, for many, their religion takes second place to their prejudices.

God is not a respector of persons. We can't go off our feeling. We must follow what scripture teaches. We must love what God loves and Hate what God hates. Is loving your neighbor acccepting their sinful lifestyle cuz you don't want to affend them. That is really hate. Our definition of love is wrong according to the Word of God.

Very carefully I will say that divorce is not always sinful, as in Matthew 5:31-32: "but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery." However, your concerns are totally valid for those in the Church who separate and remarry for other reasons, and I believe that problem may not be sufficiently addressed. Furthermore, another concern that is not sufficiently addressed is porn usage, as stated just a couple of verses earlier in Matthew 5:27-30: "but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery." I used the NASB for reference. Beyond that, these are principles for those who follow Christ, therefore I'm not convinced we can use them to judge our surrounding culture. We must witness, they may choose to answer the call and in being adopted as heirs in the family of God, they must also embrace these teachings.

Pastor Jeremy, it's curious how you start this video, with a reference to 'The Wizard Of Oz': I've met Judy Garland (a few months before she died). None of these labels-'gay'-'straight'-'bisexual'-etc.-actually describe how we stand before God. Jeremiah 17:9. There is something wrong with all of us (we have desperately wicked hearts), not just 'gay' folks. But the passage that speaks most tellingly about homosexuality; which is too often overlooked, but is astonishingly true is (drum roll, please): Romans 1:26-27. This, of course, is referring to the sin of idolatry. Who wrote wonderfully about this, and would later repent of 'being gay', and confess Jesus as his Lord and Saviour, was Oscar Wilde in his novel-'The Picture Of Dorian Gray'.

In terms of "practicing homosexuality" Jesus also addressed that if we hate someone in our heart or lust after someone, it is as good as commiting murder or adultery. Sin starts in the heart and we have the choice on whether we want to act on it and ask forgiveness and for a new heart.

I like your calm and collected delivery and even as an atheist I can see the benefit to Christians returning to their holy book to see what it actually says. In terms of homosexuality, Christian teaching couldn't be further from my conception of gay rights but maybe it's also a matter of proportion; I read somewhere that there are 5 or 6 references to homosexuality in the Bible and more than 3000 references to poverty. Maybe your God is more concerned with the latter. I would be.

I hear what you said so well, but you can not judge on your own perspective on what God deems more or less important based on how many times a subject appears in the Bible. God, set in motion and creation from Adam and Eve with how He created and designed man and woman to be and live in relationships. So, although He may not have specifically used the word "homosexual", He has been proclaiming His ideal of His creation since the beginning of time.

To me taking little clips of passages doesn't say anything "clearly"...look at each passage in full. Not just a few verses back to back. I am currently struggling with these thoughts and feelings myself and if anything...this video may have pushed me farther away from what many "christian" pastors/leaders teach. I don't know that they have it right. And this, although he claims it is clear, it is NOT> I'm open to discussion, but if you're going to use the Bible to back your teaching...do not just take a few verses here or there and call it a "passage"...it isn't the full picture. It is mearly a snippet taken out of context.

God does not care about gender (Galatians 3:28), Love is the nature of God (1 John 4:8) and love is a fruit of the spirit against which there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23). Struggling against the passions that God has instilled in you is counterproductive (1 Corinthians 7:9). Love is our noblest calling, it is the greatest commandment, _no one_ should _ever_ feel shame for love. When people say it's clear it's because they're trying to move on from something more complicated.

Well I'm not Gay but I have been drunk and had sexual relations out side of marriage. Sad to learn I am not welcome into the Kingdom. We all sin and I don't think Jesus has favorite sins. I disagree with this post. It seems to go against the New Testament. Just like the ten commandments we don't get to pick and choose. I respect your point of view but I have many Gay friends who live much more pious lives than so called strait people. He who is without sin should cast the first stone.

@@peterhaas447 I believe this video has many errors, and that you are quite correct when you say that it seems to go against the New Testament. The final arbiter, surely, on Christianity, should be Christ, and His Two Commandments do not in any way prohibit homosexuality (or drunkenness, if it causes no harm to others). People such as the makers of this video, I believe, are far more interested in pursuing their obsessions than they are in following the Words of Christ. Do not expect any reply from the locutor: I have found that such people present their position with great force, but are unwilling, or unable, to support it appropriately when faced with a contradictory opinion.

That is for god to do not us mere mortals god sees all the good things you do and surely through his grace and his forgiveness for our sins while in the mortal realm all the good things we do will out way the bad. God loves ALL his creations and that includes the LGBTQ+ community, each of us have our own relationship with the lord our own little arrangement with him if you like, I have mine you have yours so let's just follow his lead and love and respect everyone regardless of wether we agree with them or not. Find God in your heart. Then follow that, regardless of any religious writings. Religious writings are always secondary to your relationships with God in your heart. It's the one true place where God will not let you down. Religious writings, on the other hand, can and do let people down all the time because much of it is so arcane, and therefore open to various interpretations. That's why religious people are always arguing about what God says, what God means. So follow your heart. That's where you will always find out what God intends.

If one is to take Matthew 19 literally, then men are required to live with their parents-in-law, for, whilst it says the man must leave his family, it makes no such mention of the wife's having so to do. Too much is interpreted, or taken literally, without understanding or context.

@acrosticacrosti

The clarification you have found in this is, I suggest, entirely illusory, being based on a false interpretation, both of the original Koine Greek, and English translations. This false interpretation has been encouraged, most particularly in the USA, for perhaps a century by people for whom their own obsessions are more important than the Word of God. Their interpretation certainly does not rely on a reasonable translation of the original Greek, and it contradicts the understanding of prior centuries of English translation. The most respected of English language Bibles, the King James Version, makes no such claims within the New Testament. This speaker and his ilk would argue that the English words can be interpreted as they suggest, but this is incorrect, as can be seen by a near contemporaneous commentary.

With regard to why Jesus did not address homosexuality, you stated that "He felt that he didn't need to". Because apparently you know how Jesus felt? Jesus IS God. And God knows the entirety of the human story, including what is currently going on right this very minute. Meaning: Jesus knew what we would be doing, and thinking, and saying here in 2022 while he was physically walking the Earth as a flesh and bone human being. He KNEW that the topic of homosexuality would be so widely focused on and discussed and debated. He KNEW that it would be a topic of much confusion and disagreement, even amongst Christians. So I sincerely doubt that He didn't address the topic because "He felt He didn't need to." No one down here on Earth knows why Jesus didn't address the issue. Of course people will speculate the reason of His silence regarding homosexuality. Some speculations will make more sense and most likely be closer to the actual truth that the one you just threw out.

My translation for 1 Timothy 1:10 says perverts I'm confused, witch translation is he reading?
@acrosticacrosti
@acrosticacrosti 3 жыл бұрын
If you are confused, it is because you assume that there is only one version of the Bible, which is very far from the case. The earliest widely distributed Bible printed in English was, I believe, the King James version, although I understand there were earlier versions. If I may quote from an earlier posting of mine addressed to the speaker: "1 Timothy 1:10: The words which your version of the Bible translates as "homosexual" is, as you say, "ἀρσενοκοίταις" (arsenokoitais), which, is made from two parts, "man" and "marital bed" or simply "bed". The King James version of the Bible translated this word as "them that defile themselves with mankind". Commentaries from this time made no connection between this phrase and homosexual practices. Some people, in relatively recent times, have chosen to understand "mankind" to mean "men", which, of course, it does not, referring, rather, to all humanity." St Clement of Alexandria, for example, considered that excessive fondness of the marital couch - having a lot of sex with one's spouse - was a bad thing (he seems to have been a strong believer in the school of: if you are enjoying it, it must be bad). Does not this verse merely reflect this view? I would suggest that it does. I consider that any translations such as "homosexual" or "pervert" are without adequate scriptural and historial basis and understanding, no matter how satisfying they may be to one's prejudices. I wonder if the modern "translators" of the Bible have read Proverbs 30:6: "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." Unfortunately, my experience leads me to believe that people ascribe to God those beliefs which they, personally, hold dear (be there scriptural support or not), leaving them completely unaware of even the grossest errors of their understanding.

My friend Eddy hanged himself when he was 12,ys old bc he was a boy but he did not feel like one and he struggled immensely . He would tell me how he felt and how he cried alot bc he hated how he was so confused and just wanted to be "normal" like us. In school kids would kick him in the balls so he would cry then the kids would laugh and say "see you have balls", in Sabbath school class he had to sit in a special spot in the corner while the rest of us sat where we pleased. I know he did NOT make that decision to be sooo messed up but why won't a preacher who preaches Love not address it and i dont understand why not. So as long as this situation isn't addressed in church, hate and judgement will never go away. Who might Jesus be referring to in Matthew 7:23? And pastor you need to study up on Sodom and Gomorrah theres so much more to those city's your congregation needs to know. your lumited knowlege in Scripture shows sir wake up

I was so very saddened to read of your friend Eddy. I believe it is sermons such as this, apparently so reasonably presented, that do a great deal of harm, whilst certainly doing nothing to advance scriptural understanding. As you have observed (and as did I in an earlier post), this particular preacher's scriptural understanding seems to be less than adequate. Unfortunately, this seems not uncommon in the world of evangelicalism - they know what they hate, but not how to love. Perhaps that is why it is declining more rapidly than any other form of Christianity. The sooner it is gone, I feel, the better - it is just so sad that so many have to suffer while it wanes.

The description of homosexuality as a lifestyle is a blatent oversimplification of human sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular. Such indoctrination of the collective societal psyche is paramount to the self validating delusion of heterosexuality possessing moral validity. The reason that we never hear the term " heterosexual lifestyle " is because there is no need to catogorize heterosexuality with such descriptively inherent connotative oversimplification in order to subconciously justify contempt and hatred through the stone of subjective comparison.

1 Timothy 1:10: The words which your version of the Bible translates as "homosexual" is, as you say, "ἀρσενοκοίταις" (arsenokoitais), which, is made from two parts, "man" and "marital bed" or simply "bed". The King James version of the Bible translated this word as "them that defile themselves with mankind". Commentaries from this time made no connection between this phrase and homosexual practices. Some people, in relatively recent times, have chosen to understand "mankind" to mean "men", which, of course, it does not, referring, rather, to all humanity. Your translation appears to be based on poor scholarship, misunderstanding and prejudice. To say that Paul may have invented this word with the meaning of "homosexual" is to rewrite history, as arsenokoitais came to be understood as referring to homosexual practices only many centuries after the death of Paul. Romans 1: This reference is never used by any mainstream, theologically literate pastor/preacher/priest to speak against homosexuality, as the chapter is clearly referring to apostates and their return to previous forms of non-Christian worship. What is condemned by this chapter is apostasy, not homosexuality. Jude 7: What your version of the Bible refers to as "perversion" is, in the KJV, translated as "going after strange flesh". The original Greek text for "strange flesh" is "σαρκὸς ἑτέρας" - literally "flesh not of our kind" - hardly a reference to homosexuality but, rather, a reference to pursuing "foreigners/outsiders". Your blithe assertion that this was a common term referring to homosexuality bears, in my opinion, no contemporaneous validity. I believe, rather, that you are referring to the usage of the English word "perversion" which, in the relatively recent past, most particularly in the USA, had come to be used as a euphemism for homosexuality. This refining upon individual words in a translation, without reference to the original text, is an error that one would not expect from any serious scholar of scripture, most especially as there are other references in the Bible to the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah (e.g. Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel), none of which references is in accord with your stated understanding. Leviticus: One can understand this to be irrelevant to Christianity. It is a collection of so-called Mosaic laws, yet scholars now understand that this was written over a period of centuries, by various authors, rather than being handed by God to Moses. It was a creation of man, and this was reinforced by Christ Himself when he gave His Two Commandments. The second of these two commandments makes it very clear that much of Mosaic Law is rubbish. One has but to read the 613 laws of Moses to appreciate that a distinct number are not in conformity with this second commandment: the one calling for the killing of disobedient children seems singularly at odds with the second commandment, no less so is the one which requires a woman to leave the house for a week whilst menstruating (particularly if the weather be inclement), to mention but a couple. You would appear to have a strange understanding of Christianity when you say that if one were to disregard Mosaic law one would be able, for example, to have sex with one's neighbour's wife: it disregards entirely the Two Commandments of Christ, which we are told are the basis of all law and the prophets. 1 Corinthians 6:9: To save time and energy may I just refer the reader to my comment on 1 Timothy. You would seem to be reasonably versed in "evangelical" theology, but that is very different from being well versed in Christian history and theology. Whilst your arguments may succeed within that "evangelical" world, from a Christian perspective, they lack merit - if you hold your belief about homosexuality to be true, and you are a true Christian, I suggest you find valid scriptural support before bruiting about an opinion which will injure many, however satisfying it may be to "evangelicals".

I make no pretence about the meaning of these words. They are there for all to see, in clear, concise Koine Greek. If your Bible disagrees, I would suggest it is clearly false. Jesus did speak about homosexuality. Those words from Paul are God-breathed. All Scripture is God-breathed. Jesus is God. Paul's words are from Jesus. All Scripture is from Jesus. Both the Old Testament and the New. It was Jesus who flooded the earth, destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, and set the plagues on Egypt. It is a trick of the devil to deceive people that they are two different divinities.
@acrosticacrosti

If we are to take Paul's words as those of Jesus (a heretical position to most of Christianity), then surely we must look to his actual words. If you refer to the original Greek you will find that the words are not as portrayed in many modern "Bibles". In fact, Paul made no reference to homosexuality at all, and only one reference in Romans to homosexual acts, and that in the context of apostasy and a return to previous modes of religious worship, not that of normal sexual relationships. So, clearly, there is no condemnation of normal homosexuality in the New Testament. The Old Testament has such condemnation, but it also condemns/commands many other things, such as the killing of the disobedient child and other nonsense that no Christian can take seriously. Why cannot Christians take such ridiculous nonsense seriously? Because it clearly goes against the explicit words of Christ Himself (I refer to the second of the Two Commandments). If you are looking for diabolic tricks, perhaps you should look to those evangelicals who have changed the words of Paul to make them suit their personal prejudices.

@@brojoe3909 Of so you think that God is okay with different treatment based on gender, ethinicity or social class? Or do you think there are different moral codes based in those categories. Somehow that does not seem obvious to me from the text so you're going to have to defend the claim that we are allowed to treat people differently based on gender. On a separate but related note, you really ought to read a translation that was made after trains were invented. The KJV has a lot of incorrect implications due to linguistic drift over the past few centuries but also 17th century scholars in England didn't have access to the same historical and linguistic knowledge that we do. Which is to say that fornication is not a sin. That is a mistranslation based off a false cognate with the Latin Vulgate translation _fornicatio_ which meant prostitution. That wasn't even an accurate translation either becuase the Greek word _πορνεία_ or _porneia_ was much more general in usage. Modern translations use the term "sexual immorality" which better reflects the non-specific nature of the original Greek. It is does not have any marital implications. Nor is a covenant even a part of marriage in either the Ancient Mediterranean or in the Biblical narrative. So, to claim that there is an ancient word that encapsulates modern marriage traditions is simply not accurate.

It's not my problem if I displease God. It's pathetic that God has to create hell just to make us confirm to its standard. It's also pathetic that it wants us to worship on our knees. I think God is just lonely. I suppose a billion or so years will do that to anyone. Hell or not, I don't give a damn. I'll do what makes my boyfriend happy. God can be as angry, wrathful or indifferent as it chooses. The moment it has to inflict pain to make me repent, it loses the argument forever. Anybody who has any other opinion, is equally as valid as my own.

Ryan, it seems that perhaps you are viewing this from a different perspective. Hell was not created for man, it was originally created for Satan and his fallen angels. God is Love and he created mankind to share that love. He did not have to. He also could have created us to be robots and be completely under His control. Instead, He prefers that we freely accept Him and His Son, which He sacrificed for us so that we do not have to. In other words, God actually sacrificed Himself to save us. That is ultimate Love and not wrathful. It is up to us on which side we will fall into, whether we end up receiving His wrath or His salvation. Just as a parent may have to "inflict" pain, if it is physical such as a spanking to correct or discipline their children and as parents, we should know what is best for a child. It is the same with God and His creation of mankind. We did not create ourselves.

Unfortunately, the clarity you perceive exists only because prior understanding has been excluded from consideration, a typical technique used to deceive those lacking knowledge. The New Testament verses in which this video purports to find support for their anti-homosexuality position are gross mistranslations/misunderstandings which are in disagreement with the most respected of all English language Bibles, the King James Version. While some may claim that the relevant verses, even in this Bible, meant what is now more explicit in some modern versions, this position is without support from contemporaneous commentary. This distortion of the Bible to "prove" their anti-homosexuality position has been going on for quite a long time, particularly in the USA, despite the warning in Galatians that he who makes any change shall be accursed. Apparently personal prejudice outweighs all else.
