Why Dental Hygiene Temping is better and WHY I'm considering it! Dental Hygienist Career | Is Temping The Way To Go?

▶ Start Temping with onDiem for FREE! bit.ly/onDiem-TeethTalkGirl
When a dental office has a hygienist or assistant call in sick, they can call a dental temp agency to send someone to fill in for them. These temporary dental staffing agencies pair available contracted dental professionals with the office who needs a qualified staff member to see patients.
Occasionally, you might see a dental hygienist temp agency offer a “temp to hire” position. These gigs are where the hygienist fills in, everybody looks to see if it’s a good fit, and the hygienist has the opportunity to take the position as a permanent job if the office decides they want to hire them for the long haul.
You could call a hygienist/dental assistant temp agency a “matchmaker” or “middle man” of sorts, as they specifically bring dental offices and employees together when there’s a need for additional staff. Most of them are geographical and the office calls the temp agency when there’s a need.
There are a lot of alternatives to dental temp agencies. Specifically, dental job apps and websites that allow dentists, hygienists, and assistants to set their availability, hours, and even desired salary. Some companies like onDiem even have benefits like PTO, healthcare, and comp insurance as the standard. The app lets offices and dental staff “find” each other, essentially eliminating the brick-and-mortar staffing agency while adding in a lot more flexibility.

I asked her if it's the same for her, is it really fun to clean gross teeth. She said "Oh yeah!". I've been a DA for almost a year. Recently started temping. I can't speak for other areas of the us(as most temp agencies for other types of work don't pay). But, temping in my area pays better. It also offers flexibility and benefits. Ive noticed corporate dental companies struggling to keep staff, even bullying them. As well as telling lies. In my area, temp agencies have forced the average wage of a DA up as well. For example, the corporate I used to work for paid under 15/hr 3 years ago. In an area with an average rent of almost 2k/month. Now the agencies are paying almost $30/hr.

My daughter has done it all. The best in her opinion is temping as an independent contractor. Working for a dentist (the right one who gives you some autonomy and trust ) comes in second. Working for a temp agency sucks. The first option makes you the most money, gives you the most flexibility with your time, and allows you to work where you want. If you know your way around an office and are good with people you be in high demand. Only drawbacks are paying your own taxes and not having your own space.

never be sorry! so happy you're here :) temping is when you don't have a set schedule --- you can temp at multiple different offices --- it's kinda like being a substitute teacher. part-time is when you are employed by an office for less than 40 hours a week. lots of hygienists work part-time at 2 offices to make a full-time schedule. OR some hygienists like to work part-time at one office and temp at others the rest of the rest. hope this helps!
