Immortals Fenyx Rising is out next week and today we take a look at the PS5 version and how it performs while we talk about the similarities to Breath of the Wild. Immortals Fenyx Rising does a good job of standing on its own and doing enough different but if you want to know my FULL thoughts on the game be on the lookout for a review early next week.

@@senzasmentalissues474 I fit into the deuteranomaly and protanomaly gang. There are so many colors I struggle with. I have massive difficulty with pink/grey, blue purple, green/brown, yellow/light green, and certain orange/red/green. I always have to ask my wife or children for help with things. I've accidentally run red lights not knowing it was red. It wasn't until high school that I asked someone why they call it a green light (traffic lights), as it appears white to me. I don't know what it is about blue lights when I go to a concert or elsewhere, but I find them very difficult on my eyes as well. They're almost blindingly bright to look at.

TL:DR - Breath of the Wild is better over all - so far. I'm currently playing this on an original XB1... It plays very well - looks good. I've also played the Stadia demo and that looks a little bit better... I will say I'm not enjoying it as much as Breath of the Wild yet - I'm still very early into the game, but there are things that Breath of the Wild does better in my opinion. Breath of the Wild borrowed some ideas from Assassin's creed - vantage points (towers) being one of those ideas. In BoTW though, You scout the landscape - until something pops out at you and you go and explore there.... In Immortals the scouting mechanics aren't as satisfying: You track across the landscape in first person until the controller rumbles and you see a prompt to press R1 and it tells you what's there - ruining the sense of exploration and discovery. Many of immortal's puzzles actually have more of a Banjo Kazooie vibe. BoTW said "approach from any direction and solve these problems however you want." Immortals feels far more like its a puzzle with an intended solution dropped into the scenery. The vaults of Tartarus are a straight up copy of BoTW's Shrines. I'm not far enough into the story to have an opinion on it yet - but I do find the humour element a little grating Zeus and Prometheus making modern references and constantly breaking the fourth wall takes me out of the fantasy setting and spoils my immersion in it. Irreverence is fun - Banjo Kazooie and Conkers BFD were brilliant at this sort of humour - and that's just where this game wants to be - but I prefer the more grounded fantasy of BoTW - which itself has humourous moments. The combat is good but I wish Ubisoft would move away from this obsession with mapping weapons to the shoulder buttons - there's no reason for it and its far more intuitive to have them on the face buttons of the controller. The light/heavy attacks/ stagger meter is a fun addition but it doesn't alter depending on enemy. In BoTW you can stagger a Hinox with an arrow to its eye... in Immortals the Cylcopes don't seem to have this same weakness - you just fill up a gague - like you do with every other enemy. In BoTW you can stand on a sleeping Hinox's hand and be lifted onto his belly while he's asleep when he goes to scratch - then steal all the items off his necklace and sneak away - Spy on a group of Bokoblins from a distance and you'll see them dance or interact... You can set fire to an encampment from afar or sneak into their camp while they are asleep. There is nothing even remotely close to this level of brilliance or innovative attention to behaviour and detail in immortals (at least not that I've found yet). The bullet time dodge is pretty much a flurry rush, the bracers of Herakles are magnesis, and the wings of Daedalus are the paraglider but with a double jump feature added. They are not improved in Immortals - they are just lifted straight from BoTW. The climbing mechanics are a carbon copy of Breath of the Wild's - except if you want to leap from a cliff edge you can only do it away from the cliff face in Immortals - no leaping for a hand hold here - which is an odd choice to remove if you are copying everything else. The Bow of Odysseus and the arrows of apollo are taken from Assassin's creed Odyssey's mechanics - however they are also a copy of Skyward Sword's beetle item (in turn a refined version of the batarang from the Batman Arkham series). This is a fun addition and its used well for puzzle solving here. The weapons upgrade mechanics are a massive improvement on AC Odyssey - Which was massively over bloated and confusing... I'm not sure I agree though that its an improvement on BoTW's. Item breaking, for all its frustrations, forced you to make use of everything you came across and experiment - and the weapons were massively varied and each had a use: Carrying a wooden weapon was always a good idea in stormy locations; having a Frost blade or a bomb arrow could change how you approached a puzzle or a group of enemies and the durability of the weapons made you plan what you were going to use and how - or whether the damage to your weapon would negate any gains you got... It was part of the survival aspect of the game. Likewise cooking in BoTW was key to exploration - they made the various buffs and stat changes mean something in BoTW - particularly with the hot and cold environments. in immortals crafting is limited to 4 potions that offer health, stamina, defensive buffs, or damage buffs... Its very pared down by comparison, but you don't get the elation from cooking with random stuff you found to get a 20 heart health buff. Fenyx themselves has a degree of customisation - which Link could only do through outfits (which were primarily used for their buffs and abilities) - Voice acting is an interesting one - Link remained silent in BoTW but the supporting characters were voiced for the first time in a Zelda game - and that worked really well... With a fantasy setting the voices could be varied... In Immortals the voices I've encountered so far have not been as varied - and I'm not keen on either of the two options given for Fenyx.

After finishing the game my initial impressions held true for most of the game. Immortals is very obviously imitating Breath of the Wild and doing so quite overtly and deliberately. It takes some of the less well received elements and tries to replace them with mechanics from Assassins Creed - namely a limited set of upgradeable skills and tiered versions of the Champion's skills, underwater swimming, and unbreakable weapons with various skins and buffs. The puzzles are designed more with an intended solution that its very difficult to find an alternative way to solve... which hearkens back to older Zelda titles... and so the physics really only serve to frustrate in many cases rather than facilitate experimentation and out of the box thinking. A lot of the game's collectibles were merely reskins of the various armour sets... and with the ability to reskin any armour as any other set - once you settled on a look, there wasn't much of an incentive to change outside of whimsy. The multiple armour sets were reasonably varied, but few of them really excited me... same went for the various weapons skins... Zelda's various costumes felt much more planned out and different... There was often a reason to change gear to suit the environment or task at hand... With Immortals you could wear the same gear from start to finish and not notice any difference in the game. The Gods became more interesting as I progressed, but as caricatures of the Greek deities and heavily sanitised versions for a child friendly audience they lacked the emotional connection BoTW's Champions and their successors like Teba and Riju held... Every one of them was played for humour without ever actually being all that funny. And the quests to help them were so formulaic and fetch questy as to undermine any connection to them. This all felt a little bit too "paint by numbers." Or "dot to dot." The game plays upon the notion that the Gods are flawed... Typhon has a point... but the resolution to that felt unsatisfying... and the inclusion of one particular character to the plot was predictable and lacked impact.

Me and a friend of mine argue a lot which looks better and he says most of the time that rtx and the hardware of the ps5 makes the game much better looking. @@RG-Zeldaplayer You made a lot of interesting points, I'm here after 100+ hours of playing fenyx and trying to see others opinions to gain some additional insight. you hit a lot of things on the head that expressed exactly how I was feeling about the game. Though I wanted to add a couple points: - the magnesia rip off, is literally worse than BotW in every way, no push/pull control outside of combat, and movement is gimped. - bullet time dodge is worse as well, and that's strongly due to the way the dodge mechanic works in each game. in Fenyx, the dodge is more of a dash in any direction. in BoTW its a more precise "hop", jump or flip, which means they dodges are tighter, and when you do achieve a PERFECT dodge, you're in a perfect position to retaliate against an enemy. Conversely in Fenyx, if you achieve a perfect dodge, since the dodge covers such a long distance you end up too far away from the enemy to actually counter attack them and you're wasting most of that precious slow motion time trying to get back to them. - the lock on features are horrible. Fenyx often does not lock on to what's in front of him/her, and the camera takes a lot of control in terms of what enemy gets priority when attacking. The manual lockon isn't "sticky" enough to remedy this, and because of the floaty dodge mechanic, it feels as though you dont get a true "strafing" mechanic when locked on unlike BOTW. Makes It virtually useless IMO. - I will argue that the wings are an overall improvement over the paraglider though, as with double jumping, boosting, as well as supplemental mechanics such as the Aries and Athena godly powers making aerial traversal more versatile. - overall control over fenyx doesn't feel as snappy and responsive as BoTW does. I felt controls weren't nearly as precise as what some of the "shrine" challenges would imply, do you agree or do I just suck lmao - the game really should have gyroscope support like BOTW does, the full range of motion it allows over just your thumb when aiming your bow makes challenges a lot easier. - I do agree most of the armor sets in Fenyx are uninspired, though I have to praise the vanity system, its one of the best I've seen in terms of freedom to mix and match any armor/weapon to any other set so you ge the best of both worlds in terms of form and function, id also argue that the build potential is much greater than in BoTW with sets focusing on stunning, DPS, maximizing bow damage, boss and shrine optimized sets, etc. The armor sets in BoTW seem more focused on handling a given environment/situation, while fenyx feels more traditional in that the sets are designed to optimize output in a given field. - it feels like environmental damage actually matters in Fenyx, in BoTW having rocks, electricity, etc harm enemies feels like it barely does ANY damage, typically you get a temporary stun and that's about it; This problem is heavily exacerbated in master mode where enemies are stronger, tackier, and have REGEN, so environmental damage feels completely useless. In fenyx, even higher level enemies take a good chunk of stun damage after you chuck a boulder in their face. Overall I feel like Fenyx is a good game, but the points you made about the characters, atmosphere, environment (how it actually matters), and how making food, elixirs, and clothing heavily impact how well you'll do out there really makes one feel a more resonating feeling towards bOTW, and makes it still the better game overall. What do you think?

I've played both games a few years ago. Right now I'm downloading the DLCs and the latest patch to play Fenyx again. I liked Fenyx much better than BOTW back then because: - BOTW had muddy graphics - Opponent variants were far too few (color changing) - No reason to attack the opponents because there was no reward (and if there was a tresure, then only with trivial stuff inside) - No need to explore the world because again... there was no reward (eg. special items, secret caves, secret side quests etc.) - 5 types of shrines that repeat over and over again - Kroks are hidden in 5 different ways - Puzzles always followed the same pattern BOTW was a very annoying game for me and fell asleep a lot while playing. Fenyx, on the other hand, is more fast pacing and does so many things better (or leave out) that I don't like in BOTW. BOTW is more of a sandbox because of the physics and what you can do with it (that's a big plus). Fenyx is more linear and aims to advance the story. I like that better. Remember: Haven't played both game for years. These are just my spontaneous memories. I'm looking forward to playing Fenyx again soon. A return to BOTW doesn't appeal to me at all.

Not questionable, the combat is better, the traversal is better. The animations are better & the overall gameplay ois better. BOTW got a huge pass because Nintendo finally joined the rest of gaming & went truly open world with the franchise. But the games story sucked. there were zero interesting characters. Some mechanics were unfinished. You couldn’t swim under water etc. BOTW was a cool game but it had nothing in it we hadn’t seen before. This game provides a better looking experience & gameplay that is fun. I never finished breath of the wild, but I’ll have fun finishing this.

The best thing about this game is that it’s a quality single player experience in an age where companies are just trying to nickel and dime us with the bare minimum. AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAH No. Or at least, i preferred Zelda. Even putting aside my lifelong love of Zelda, botw is just the superior game. The world has more identity, the music and characters are actually memorable, the world has much more diversity in biomes and landmarks so every square inch feels unique, and it doesn't suffer from that classic Ubisoft jank that comes part in parcel with every Ubi game Don't get me wrong, i like Fenyx a lot too, it's definitely a worthy alternative, but you aren't comparing burgers and veggie burgers here, you're comparing like, a burger to a Rueben. Yeah the basic idea is there, but the two things are fundamentally different products. In BOTW, the _world_ is a character. You don't have running commentary from Zeus and Prometheus, you have a story told by the world. A dead guardian sitting on a single, ruined home. A moblin camp built on the ruins of an old town. Imagine if King Rhoam followed you around the whole game like "Ah yes, this is the old Hateno bakeshop, I'm glad the guardians got it, they burned my muffins!" And then honked his clown nose, played a badum-tiss on his drumset, and did the "Whomp whomp whomp whooooomp" with a slide whistle while Zelda held the bridge of her nose indignantly. Fenyx is plenty charming, and as a Greek I can tell that they really tried to do their homework and not deliver something generic with my mythology (Hades is the devil, Zeus is an irredeemable bad guy, Herakles is spelled Hercules and he's superman). They actually surprised me with the steps they took, even if the twist at the end felt kind of arbitrary and like it led nowhere. Botw is a flying 10, Fenyx is a decent 6.5. If you're looking for a zelda-like that you can play on PC but you don't want to be a disgusting Genshin player, get Fenyx.

Not trying to be an Ubisoft hater, because I loved AC Odyssey. But to compare Immortals to Breath of The Wild is an insult. I just finished it (40h) and by the time I dropped the controller I was like "oh thank God, there, it's over, uninstall". I have to admit, I really enjoyed it ... for the first 10 or so hours, when the mechanics were fresh and I was still having SOME fun going to vaults and chasing ambrosia ores, or chests. But then the ultimate thought blasted through my mind : While Hyrule feels ALIVE, Immortals world feels DEAD. Hyrule has towns, people wandering by, enemies interact with themselves, with animals, with the rain, with nearby weapons. It's just mind-boggling what BOTW's physics engine is capable of, and the AI behavior is incredible. Fenyx on the other hand, it's just a barren land devoid of life, with a few repetitive enemies sprinkled here and there, and your typical Ubisoft "here's a ton of collectibles for you to go fetch". There wasn't a single moment in this game where I just stopped and went "wow what a sight". The assets were bland, boring, unimaginative. The game quickly became just a list of tasks to complete, nothing else. I played BOTW twice, one about 3 years ago, and the other right after I completed Ghost Of Tsushima. I really liked Ghost, but I was getting a little bit uneasy about people saying it's the best open world since ooh my god foreeever, so many reviews and comments saying Tsushima Island was a masterpiece in open world design, and I was like ... "hmmm, I remember having way more fun exploring Hyrule ... maybe it's just nostalgia talking?" ... so I updated my Cemu emulator and decided to fire up BOTW again ... just to check something, just to remember. And just like that, 146 hours later, another playthrough completed, just like that. Hyrule just sucks you in. And don't even get me started on the music. If you think I'm exaggerating, IGN just released a few days ago a video called "150 Tiny Things That Make Breath of the Wild a Game for the Ages". That's a 2021 video, from a 2017 game. Just check the video out and let me know if Immortals does 0,1% of what is shown there. No friggin way.
