Supply of money vs demand for that money. Inflation is caused when supply grows faster than demand does even if demand shrinks faster than supply. The federal reserve can mandate banks keep money in reserve to shrink supply but the bank reserve is 0%.

Good question. I'd say in 2022, price inflation is a fairly good proxy for energy. In 1980s, I don't think so. The way price inflation is calculated has changed

Oil drives productivity. Less productivity means less stuff to buy independent of money supply, contributing to inflation. Both money supply and the price of oil are main factors that contribute to inflation.

Theoretically you can use nuclear power to capture carbon and create diesel… It is not very efficient but humanity might find a way to do so efficiently, even by creating food for photosynthetic bacteria using the Haber-Bosch process. I think that with some creativity humanity could use clean electric power to create fuel.

@@paintballthieupwns Thanks! I just searched for some research and I have a lot to read, do you know if anyone tried to calculate the price per joule that can be produced in this process? I wonder if it can compete with regular diesel... Entalphy calculations aren't very useful in this case :/
@barakav3483
@barakav3483 Жыл бұрын
@Penderyn Ye, but you wouldn't want to divert farmland and fresh water that are in short supply to energy production. Bacteria can literally do anything with almost nothing, give it some ammonia and some ions and phosphorus which is what you'll find in regular soil, and it will produce an infinite amount of fuel from the air, even in salt water. It might not even need refills in some case. And it is easier to genetically engineer E-coli or yeasts and to improve the process in them than it is to do the same with plants. I just read some research about it and It seems to me that the process is not efficient enough yet to be scaled properly, but I saw articles that imply that there are companies that are using directed evolution to improve it all the time, like the process that is used right now to improve plastic degrading enzymes (which funnily enough are doing the exact reverse process of creating hydro-carbons). I am reading some studies about DME and IMHO it won't replace diesel because it is a gas at room temperature. Transporting and using a flammable gas as a fuel is a pain, and it's energy density is half of that of diesel, so you'll need huge fuel tanks.

Global stocks headed for their biggest weekly decline in more than three months. European shares fluctuated, with a record 36% drop in Siemens Energy AG’s shares after a profit warning dragging on the broader market. US index futures fell. According to chief economist at UBS Global Wealth Management “Financial markets have had one of those switches in the narrative that happen occasionally, and are starting to worry about higher interest rates driving recessions,” I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my $300k stock portfolio, what’s the best way to take advantage of the market?

I think the point hes missing here is, nuclear for us is viable long term, Africa, well they struggle with coal as it is so nuclear was never an issue for them, the world at one point was 100% fossil fuel market driven and we've slowly shifted, however , electric cars arnt the answer , hydrogen is, you can also pump it through the current gas network, and therefore eliminate tankers refueling stations as you could im theory refuse your car with hydrogen from your current gas network, in seconds, not hours like battery only vehicles.

Wtf is this guy talking about? Oil and human labor are not things that can be swapped 1-for-1, and I'm sure if I were to look at the historical price of a barrel of oil in Venezuelan bolivar (and anything else that can be bought), I'd get something very different than the equivalent prices in USD. Doesn't mean that oil prices can't drive inflation, but to call M2 a "rounding error" is silly.
