Skating is an expensive sport, but how much does it really cost to skate in inline figure skates for a year as compared to ice? Is it actually worth the price to skate on inlines or is it better to just stick to figure skates on ice?

Rink fees were set as $5 for public, $15 for freestyle prices would vary depending on rink, availability, etc).
*Also, a note here; the past two years, I've spent $615 CAD ($500 USD) on inlines, but since I recently bought new boots that were quite pricey, the figure changed dramatically even though I haven't gotten much ware out of my boots yet.

So far, I've probably spent around $600 just gathering materials for inlines. I assume the cost will go up a bit as time goes on though 😓 I have a feeling it's probably too expensive of a hobby to start as a broke young adult, but as long as I have a good time I guess it's worth it!(?)

Ice has always been out of the question for me (cuz you know no rink) and I just calculated how much I spend on Inlines in the past year and yup, your calculation pretty much checks out. I was lucky to get a set of boots and frames that cost a little less, but on the other hand, I spend more on protective gear. With no coach or any kind of previous experience, I wanted to minimize the risk of teaching myself jumps and spins on concrete :P

I learned the hard way that splurging on protective gear’s actually super important!😂 I had a bad fall a few days ago so I ordered nicer guards that didn’t end up in the video, but it’s so much better to spend a little more on guards than spend a little more on frames!

Also every rink has membership for training ice. So it’s not gonna be that expensive lol.

Entry with hired skates at my local roller skating rink is $17 AUD, so sis ain't cheap at all. Learn to skate is $25, so in the last 8 weeks I've spent $200 on skating :,)

Woahhh I never thought about how expensive rentals would be😰

@@Hazook Rentals themselves are pretty cheap, to get in with your own skates is still $14. It does make sense that entry prices are so high though because the rink is the only one in New South Wales (the state I live in), the owners are wonderful people but they are bleeding me dry XD

@@JustinPageSlayer do they not have some kind of monthly pass or other concession? I have a bimonthly pass for my ice rink (although not sure how roller rinks work) and it saves me so much money.

@@eljj7968 I think the rink has loyalty cards, but unfortunately there's no monthly pass :,(

That’s kinda normal in figure skating. It’s only entry level. Private lessons, twice a week, a month would be 400 dollars just for lessons

If I reallyyyyy wanna learn how to ice skate, but don’t currently have access to rinks bc of distance should I buy inline figure skates or normal roller blades? People say in-line figure skate is more like ice so the learning curve from them to ice is better than from roller blades to ice. Is that true?

It is, but if you’ve never skated before, I think rollerblades might be a better option so you learn how to do glides and basic moves without spending too much. If you’re willing to spend some money though, inline frames would give you an easier transition to figure skates, especially when it comes to the toe pick.
