Starting a new game is always fun and exciting, but it’s also mostly always not easy. Here’s my experience ramping into infinity.
My name is Dek. I'm a designer, entrepreneur and gamer from the Bay Area. My biggest motivation and aspiration is absolutely building a great community around tabletop wargaming and RPG's. Join me in pushing the culture forward, and having a good ol' time doin' it.

Ive been a player since 2018 i think. I really enjoy the game and the community is absolutely the best. I started off with the faction that had the highest learning curve (JSA) and moved over to Ikari Co. Gonna try vanilla builds since all i know is sectorials. And yes, i can imagine a game without the ARO system. Keeps the game interesting and flowing.

I think one of the hardest thing about starting non mainstream games of all kinds is just getting a stable group going, its always so much easier to get into 5e or warhammer then taking the route less traveled.

After learning the ARO system, I have found that I have a hard time playing any wait & see turn structured games. It was a (sorta pun intended) game changer for me.

Alternating activations is a good way, too. Also, I’d recommend just giving Star Wars Legion a try. It’s cool because there’s also randomness in what’s allowed to activate.

Additional bonuses: 1) Balance: infinity is very well balanced. There are no actions blatantly stronger than others. 2) Organized play: Corvus Belli release yearly a tournament ruleset (Infinity Tournament System, ITS) with a ton of delicious missions that allow us to play beyond (and sometimes against) "murder those f**kers". Through an online registration, tournament results are stored and compared in a sort of worldwide ranking. ITS rules are, obviously, released for free online by CB.

I really enjoy the ITS system. I like how it combines the lore and the game in cool ways. I like the heaters and turrets, and I like how they use it as an excuse to just toss in limited models!

I started building and playing (ALEPH) just as 2nd Edition ended. Started a fan page on FB for ALEPH called…well ALEPH. Then started getting harder to find time to play with my meta (which wasn’t very big) just as Code One was being developed. I ended up relieving management of the ALEPH group to a fine set of players and fans who had more passion and time for the game than I did but I never stopped loving the game, the lore, and the miniature range. Corvus Belli’s philosophy on rules and support was a refreshing ideology to the hobby of miniature wargames.

Nice review! I have been playing Infinity since November 2020 after having been a Games workshop customer since early childhood (now 36) and I have to say Infinity has now completely eclipsed all GW games in my hobby life. The game itself is miles better than any GW game (save Bloodbowl, which is still a clear second to Infinity) though it can be punishing, especially as a new player coming into an existing meta, though that makes your eventual victories all the sweeter! As an old time miniatures painter I love the metal minis, they are reassuringly weighty and the details are excellent. I would say, for the older minis (like the Marut) they can be awkward to put together, but the newer sculpts are much better. You get a sub from me and the hope for more Infinity content in the future!

Thanks Tom! I have a pretty hefty Infinity video coming up, actually. I would like for my channel to be primarily Infinity and Malifaux. Let me know if you have any content ideas for sure!

Great vid and figures! Welcome to the game. I've been playing from it's start in the US. The rules can be a bit frustrating at times for me but I'll still take it over many others. But the figures and background help to make up for that most of the time. It's a challenge but at least I don't have to spend a ton of money to get my ass kicked! A positive for me is that it's skirmish and price is reasonable. Minigames are never cheap but at least I don't need to get a bank loan to build a single army.
@CornerCase
@CornerCase 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the slog of collecting such a huge homogenous army isn't for me, either. I like collecting different factions, and skirmish games makes that more reasonable. Plus you can paint fewer models to a higher standard, and it's easier to have like a full playset for if a friend is ever interested!

I think i lost.. probably my first 11 games before I won my first one. The learning curve is pretty steep but when you start pulling out wins on the last order, with your whole army tabled, but you get one guy who's bleeding out in Dogged status and he slaps the button for the win - chef kiss

Just bought my first army (O-12/Starmada) so that I can play with a couple of buddies. I have a few games under my belt, having used a friend's minis. I like painting, but I'm dreading -- DREADING -- the assembly.
@CornerCase
@CornerCase 2 жыл бұрын
Omg, yeah, the assembly can be such a pain. The Marut made me CRY. The pinning and muscling warped parts into place is not the business. Any argument for metal miniatures has to boil down to only the joy of the weight and nostalgia. Also not too keen on metal model paint adherence.
@kokushin55
@kokushin55 Жыл бұрын
As an old time wargamer coming back to the hobby after two decades is kind of funny that one of the cons you have for infinity is the metal models 😅. I understand, but it is still funny. Sounds like you found something special that works great for you guys! Yeah, i can relate to your daughter in that I didn’t really feel like I could relate to 40K or any GW game-I’m a POC, and I’ve never identified as a warrior like traditional western masculinity prescribes. So Malifaux and Infinity have been great for me, as I’ve been able to play a lot of different characters. Also, super awesome that you and your daughter can share the hobby. So happy for you guys.

But most of all is that, after I left 40k because all the copyright stuff (as a broke I spend more time in lore than buying stuff) seeing corvus belli giving free rulebooks in pdf and the app was like... I can actually commit to this game whitout pressure. Corvus Belli is an amazing company and Infinity is an amazing game. I´ll campaign to the end to bring Infinity to more people. questions: is this a mini's war game or skirmish game? or is it an RPG with good combat mechanics. the art and appearance of the mini's reminds me of Shadowrun. is there any real comparison? is the game system mini agnostic or should it be played WYSIWYG? besides the basic rules, what is the next logical purchase? I think that's it for now.
@CornerCase
@CornerCase 2 жыл бұрын
Skirmish game. It has an RPG that I haven’t tried. It’s not as strictly cyberpunk as Shadowrun. I think Shadowrun is kind of like the archetypical cyberpunk genre. I think Infinity has a lot of the same components-corps, hacking, neon Tokyo, clones. What sets Infinity apart from what I’d consider trad cyberpunk is it’s focus on “international” conflict and a fight against aliens. I don’t consider aliens as primary trope of trad cyberpunk. Obviously if you play with your friends, you can use whatever minis you want. Generally the infinity community is very pro-proxy’ing, though as tournaments I believe your proxies should still be Corvus Belli models. Actually the core rules, there are 2 versions of the game- Code One and N4. Code One is the “streamlined version.” N4 is “full rules.” My POV is just learn the full rules slowly, and buy the models you think look sick. Hope that was helpful!!
