I like the touch where Watson says “as your doctor”, and homes tries to argue and protest, then Watson cuts him off with “as your friend,” and then Holmes relents a little bit. That little moment does so much to show they’ve been friends for a long time and despite the sarcasm and snark they do truly respect and care for each other
@GuukanKitsune3 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: the RDJ Holmes actually perfectly nailed Holmes as a character. As a reader of the books, I can tell you that Holmes, in fact, IS narcissistic, petty, rude, insensitive, and more than a bit of a jackass. In Hound of the Baskervilles, for half the book he has Watson investigating the mystery by himself, telling him he can handle it and he (Holmes) has no interest in the case. Watson thus does his best to use what he has learned from Holmes to solve the mystery... Only for the clues to lead him to a mysterious stranger in town that turns out to have been Holmes himself, investigating the mystery in secret, using Watson as a distraction, with every confidence that a) Watson would spot all the clues Holmes would have and b) Watson would inevitably put them together in the absolutely wrongest way possible but at least he'd spot them. And told Watson so to his face, before immediately pressing him for whatever clues he'd gathered from inside the house that Holmes hadn't had access to and then, for funsies, mocking and pulling apart Watson's incorrect case theory.
@2kiwis1aussie3 жыл бұрын

RDJ is good. He managed to combine the classic Holmes potrayal in Hollywood, Jeremy Brett's sociopathic mannerisms, & the original Holmes from the canon books. I like it. But the best for me is still & always will be Jeremy Brett from Granada Sherlock Holmes series. He didn't just portray the sociopathic & eccentric side of Holmes very faithful to the books, but also the loving side of Holmes that's very rarely shown in on-screen adaptations. It showed that Holmes, the man who's as hard as iron in one of Watson's description of him, still has a heart & not just a cheeky genius. Holmes in that series showed how delicate he is when handling clients in distress, just like in the books. That what's lacking in other Holmes adaptation, including RDJ's. Brett's Holmes was shown to admire several female characters even though he had no interest in sexual/romantic relationship just like in the book, particularly in "A Scandal in Bohemia" with Irene Adler & "The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist" with Violet Smith.
