Guys, I don't know if you know this, but Starcraft Remastered is for the Korean Pro scene. If they fixed Pathing for example, it would completely kill Micro and therefore make the Remastered pointless for the target audience. Like people have said: 1. SC:BW is now free for everyone. It works like kind of a "demo" for SC:R. 2. Fixing the bugs in SC:BW and SC:R would throw off balance in the competitive scene. 3. SC:R is meant to be cross-compatible with SC:BW, meaning that players of BW can play with players of R. 4. Blizzard has restarted patching SC:BW, and by extension, SC:R.

Uh... the Zel Naga doesn't count. It's just the Zerg, Protoss, and Terran

SC1 is free, you can upgrade to remastered later if you want. It's only $16 though and it's worth it to just do Campaign again for the nostalgia imo. I really just miss the old sound bites. "Ready to roll out."

I don't get all of the complaints about the gameplay being the same as the original. This is just a remaster of a classic so that it can still be played and enjoyed by its fans and new ones. People need to learn the difference between remaster and remake.

A few technical explanations and appendices: 1) the Remastered version runs as a purchasable add-on to the freeware StarCraft Anthology release from this spring, which you can get from Blizzard's classic games store 2) bugfixes are still happening regularly, and apply to both versions (which are mutually compatible). The whole project was originally built upon patch 1.16.1 from 2009. This is part of why certain issues like the infamous Dragoon pathfinding haven't been fixed - the engine is the exact same as the one from 1998. If you want mere bugfixes and compatibility fixes, you needn't get the Remastered atop the freeware, *with a great big asterisk in point 4 below* 3) owners of the Remastered add-on can switch back and forth between the new and old graphics on the fly by pressing F5 or using the Options menu 4) the classic graphics (particularly important for players of the freeware version without Remastered) have an apparently *deliberately* placed pair of bars on the sides so it appears as 4:3, when it actually isn't 5) there is no resolution selection option - the game detects your desktop resolution and scales the game to that. You can, however, choose whether you want it in fullscreen or windowed (proper or fullscreen'd). 6) the graphics rendering has been changed to OpenGL

They even left in the odd way to go to options by pressing F10 instead of ESC.

People complaining about how the game plays missed the whole point of it. It was released as an esport, not as a game. So its one of the few cases where whatever you or i say is irrelevant since its not for us. Its for S Korean esport, nothing more.

For people wondering why they kept the old UI, etc and changed nothing but the graphics, the reason is two fold : 1) Balance - the balance is pretty much perfect as it is having been patched to be as tight as it could be over the course of many years. 2) The mechanics that made the game difficult i.e. individually assigning workers, 12 units max in a control group, etc, are what provided the level of skill division the game provides. If you take away those mechanics without replacing them (as they did in SC2) you make the game trivial.

I was a bit irritated about the slowness the whole time, until I remembered: You could play Starcraft at different speeds. I am more familiar with the faster speed.

The amount of work behind this remaster is just incredible, giving that they had to redraw all the sprites in higher resolution, clean up the audio, create the whole new ladder system, it's an amazing deal whether you're revisiting the game, or playing it for the first time. I can't understand people who find this to be overpriced, when they're currently selling us terrible and lazy skins for SC2 in warchests for 25 bucks (some of them being just copypasta from commander unit skins).

I've been playing this game since 2003. Loved making zombie UMS maps and all those late nights gaming.

Why are people complaining? These guys who are complaining are like asking for LFR and LFG to be added to WoW classic. It's the same! Those guys clearly never played the original, and now they complain. Part of what made the game unique and fun for us, who love the game, is how somewhat imbalanced and rough around the edges it was (Not my quote this one). For us, the remaster does it's job of making the game look better and making it fit into our monitors. We wanted the gameplay unchanged. If they changed the gameplay, it wouldn't have been StarCraft anymore. The same with WoW, if they change Classic, it will no longer be what made Vanilla great!

Starcraft wouldn't work without the glitches. The entire game balance relies on it. None of them are game breaking, entire strategies rely on them. There is a game that doesn't have these problems in case you want to play a more modern game. It's called Starcraft 2.

This is a pretty good remaster, in my opinion. Looks real good, and plays just as how I remember it from childhood. Not to mention it also includes the expansion. THIS is how you do remasters. Sell the game with everything it has. Not the crap where you take the game hostage as a bundled exclusive and have to repurchase the DLC at a higher price than before. Then after they buy the bundles just to get the remaster, you THEN release it as a standalone. **coughcoughModernWarfarecoughcough**

some games shouldn't change. Chess is chess. Checkers is still checkers. Its okay to make new monopoly games...but there will always be one original. And when your original title is legendary...you have to at least keep it alive for people to play instead of forcing us all to migrate to new titles. Just make it look better and up to date and were fine. I dont even need a million maps. Im alright with 3v3 Big Game Hunters. And if that sounds crazy there are plenty of Mobas that replay the same map over and over!

Of course the remastered game has all the old pathing issues and other bugs - that was the whole idea from the very beginning. The remastered version is supposed to be a visual upgrade and *nothing* more.

they didnt change the game engine becase what made SC better than its sequel was it's quirks that required more knowledge of the game to handle. It's not a drawback they didn't change it, it's a strength

Just a heads up. My boyfriend pre-orded this game and hasn't really been able to play it due to some game breaking bugs. We've spent hours trying to get the game to work / submitted a ticket. He can't get into any multiplayer matches and the options menu literally crashes the game. I checked the forums and a lot of people are having this problem (on Win 7, 8, 10, mac). I really don't think it was an issue on our end. So is it worth it? I would say no until they fix these bugs.

Yay now all we need is remasters of the original Warcraft trilogy and my life will be complete

SC is one of the best RTS games from the 90's, a time where RTS games were fucking amazing in general and were carving out the genre. To pay £12 for a massive campaign (including an expansion) and infinite multiplayer in a game which pretty much nailed it ... NO it's NOT worth it! I'd rather pay £60 for COD, finish the campaign in 3-4 hours and then pay EXTRA to play it online vs cheaters and with immense slowdown! Fucking stupid question.

You missed out one of the most important new features. You didn't mention that there's a new match making feature for ladder games so you don't have to randomly join games with people significantly better then you. Now you can click a button and have the system find someone at your skill level to play with. Admittedly the system is a little buggy, and only supports 1v1 at the moment, with team games promised in the future, it makes playing ladder games a lot more enjoyable! Great review though! Was happy to see an SC video from you in my feed!

I have a registered purchased copy of SC1/BW and took a while, but I slapped around the config till it worked on my windows 10 laptop. Though I would buy it just to not have to fight and struggle with it for over an hour. It does look nice, but my only real complaint is the terran units kinda blend in more with looking alike. At least with infantry.

I played it last night. It was a great fresh coat of paint for an amazing game that was being held back by it's graphics which have NOT aged well.

Admittedly I am still on the fence on this one. On one hand, I would love to play through this game, having missed this when it first came out (I was like, 4 years old when the original starcraft released). On the other hand, the original version is free as mentioned by others, if I can deal with the low resolution and pixalated graphics. I don't know. I might pick it up when I have some money to spare. Saving money, however little, is kind of high important priority for me right now.
