What's living in Jakarta as a foreigner like from the other side of the coin? Why my Russian friend and her Indonesia husband are planning to live in Russia instead? I always show beautiful sides of Jakarta and share how excited I am living in this city, however not everyone feels the same.

Digged down the commenta, and didn't get that backlash. Didn't see anything rude or racist. Just an opinion of a foreigner about living in Indonesia. Most of which is a culture shock and just unusual things for her. Pretty sure she is an introvert. As an introvert myself, I would also feel anxiety on that much attention. Liked that she married local who is open-minded and cares about her and makes sure she is safe. Nothing wrong with it. Keep up with russian language btw :)

@@MrFinchBen Lol don't u see her body language, her expression when she talks, negative people like her are not fit to live in Indonesia tho. Indonesian people are over friendly and like to great each other especially with foreigners and this has become a habit. But because of that it makes foreigners feels insecure. So come on guys please stop doing that. It's okay if you just want to say hello but don't be too often, especially for ask to taking a photo with them :|

If U dont like to be taken a picture with us, fine. Just say “sorry I cannot” and U move away. Eventhough it will hurt our feeling and our hospitality. Not many people feel like U. Many youtubers ate welcome. You feel insecure,.. fine...it is your right. Next time dont bring a lot of money and diamonds when traveling to Indonesia. @@yuriwae2124 The thing is when saying no to photos with people, they either get upset, think you're rude or take the photo in a sneaky way anyway which is waaaay more rude! I didn't say anything about people being uneducated? Anyway, I'm not going to argue with a faceless profile but you'll be sorry to know that I'm already in Indonesia, am a permanent resident and my children are dual citizens. Sorry not sorry. Yeah I can relate how difficult it is being a foreigner in foreign country. Everything is unfamiliar and you're in uncharted territories hoping not to step into wrong situation. After living in US so many years I still feel an outcast sometime even though most of friends are Americans. But when I visit Indonesia I feel like an outcast as well because my family think I speak an act like an American. Im pretty sure it was unintentionally. Yea I met some childhood friends in Jakarta but I feel a bit more comfy hanging out with expats there instead. So here I'am between the rock and a hard place. Good luck to you guys and be ready for Russia bitter winter!

When i first moved to Jakarta i remember the first time walking around looking for some food and the first thing i noticed was why it s just me walking. Another thing is the lack of shopes on the streets so if you are looking for a pharmacy a library....etc it s hard to find on the street where you can pull over and get you things done. Another nightmare that i think you should really cover is the parking YOU CAN NOT PARK YOU CAR OR EVEN MOTORBIKE on the side of the road you need to get into a parking area which costs you money each time you want to park DAMN i spend more money on parking more than food 🤣🤣🤣. And dont forget the opposite values of many things ex food can be cheap coffee expeesive, renting a big house cheaper than a small apartment. Get out in the morning get a coffee before you start your work is impossibe , walking in Sudirman fancy skycrappers with a nice pavement not one single shop is there. I totally agree with you about going to exapats events the only thing i trully enjoy in the city. BUT YEAH WE DAMN LIKE JAKARTA

I understand completely how living in Jakarta as a foreigner can be a nightmare, in the end, some people love it some people will hate it, just like what you said in the end This should also be city government’s homework to improve living space and walking areas, and also build more accessible shops on the major roads!

Great interview! I was always confused watching your videos seeing how much you love living in Jakarta when I hated it and used to cry in my apartment a lot hahaha. I understand how your friend feels, like it's kinda annoying after a while when people yell "BULE!!!" at you or want to take photos of you and you're literally just trying to buy toilet paper in Indomaret. I kinda understand why because not everyone is familiar seeing 'bule' even in certain parts of the capital city, but it does get tiring after many years. And to people who say "go back to your country" it's a bit ridiculous. We can choose to live somewhere and not love EVERYTHING about it, like your friend was just saying about some negative things but I'm sure she has some positive too but it's a good contrast for your channel. Like you said at the end, not everyone will feel the same and everyone has different soulmate cities haha

Let me give ya'll one bitter truth. Indonesians aren't that friendly to other Indonesians. They're just being that way to foreigners. But you don't find it in educated Indonesians people. And I think nowadays, Indonesians (especially my generation) have already been more opened to foreigners in a sense that we're adjusting to their need of privacy. Cause tbh, none of my indo friends are that crazy about foreigners. And oh, if you're foreigners and wanna move to Indonesia, it is recommended for you to do some research about this country. This is also applicable to Indonesians who wanna move to other countries. So you can minimize this sort of culture shock.

Of course there are plus and minus, even you live in a big and superpower country. but I am very happy living in Bekasi (near Jakarta), the people are very friendly, relaxed and smiling. maybe because religion is also very common here, so the people are still sane. and happiness everything for me in living life, even if there are people who live ambitiously that is a good thing. but living with happiness and sufficiency is everything, not greedy. There is a funny story, I once worked for an American company in Jakarta, my boss (American) often passed by our room where the walls were glass and wondered why the workers were often seen laughing and joking. He said "this office is like disneyland" but he is not angry because the job is done on time :D

yes we can still be productive as individuals / organizations without having to "justify all ways", underestimate other nations and feel the greatest. Always and always be serious and always talk about profit or loss, in my opinion that is too much ambition because it will always lead to war (economic or real war) or invasion (that's not Indonesia), even though myself as an Indonesian society still see many shortcomings such as discipline and cleanliness That is the importance of changing the education system to be adaptive and not obsolete (the Indonesian education system is "memorizes" too much, it is no longer relevant to the internet era and 5G in the future. It must be more about creativity, especially the younger generation for Indonesia in the future), and Jokowi is right to choose nadiem makariem (ex ceo gojek) as minister of education in 2019. I hope that the next generation (20-30 years) Indonesian society will be better without having to "justify All ways" and sneaky (I don't need to mention what country it is) :p
