Something I really did like, as you mentioned: Puss is the kinda cliche "ladies man", EXCEPT: He *actually* respects women. He is a suave swashbuckler, but he doesn't push anything. If he is shut down, he accepts it. It's simply his "go to".

Puss is honestly an icon. I know this is a children's/family movie, but I loved it. Maybe even because of that fact. Like, it is possible to make something entertaining, holding weight in the world, and also family friendly. More media needs to show examples of characters like this.

Her giving Puss one of her blades is quite the move too considering they are used in substitution to her claws. Giving him a blade is literally giving a piece of her and allowing him to hold something of hers which she uses in defense, to also allow him to defend himself.

The fact that it is the blade that Puss uses to parry the wolf's final attack is also in sinc with the narrative. It is through his bonds with others how puss manages to overcome death, Without that blade he would have fallen.

THE THING ABOUT SANTA COLOMA is that it's actually hinted she is lying about skipping out on the wedding. Because how else would she know he didn't show? WHY would she be so angry if she anticipated it? No, she was there. But she saw that he was genuinely regretful, and decided to lessen the blow to his already weakened mental state.

I think she did lie to not make Puss feel worse about him ditching the wedding. I think Santa Coloma happened before Shrek 2. I bet Puss learned more about marriage and commitment through his friends. It was like the only time in his life where he was viewed as a friend instead of a legend. @@tinycatfriend Possibly. I’m not an expert. But in all the episodes I’ve watched of My Cat From Hell (a show with an awful name but a good host who’s a cat expert and consultant that goes from house to house giving cat owners advice on how to deal with a problem from their cat) every house that had their cat declawed did all four of the paws. And everyone I’ve seen with a declawed cat did the same thing. Plus, I’ve seen a lot of “advice” thrown around the internet, and in an outdated book, insisting to people that they needed to get all four paws torn, because cats could still mark up furniture with their back paws (like a scratching post or pad is impossible to get instead). Also, a lot of information I’ve seen about the effects of declawing deals with the assumption that all four paws had their claws removed, such as explaining that declawed cats often avoid litter boxes and go elsewhere (often assumed by negligent owners to be “disobedience”) because the litter box granules are painful on their damaged claws when they dig and squat, and that all declawed cats eventually develop arthritis-in all four limbs-if they live long enough for it.

I love how Kitty's personality also matches that of a declawed cat. Declawed cats tend to be very defensive, have trust issues, and are depressed. These are traits that Kitty has. Including the biting trait. Kitty only tries to use her bite once or twice but it's a nice detail. I also love how they make it clear that she doesn't have claws even without mentioning it. Like how Puss and Kitty are tugging onto the map. You can see Puss using his claws to grip the map while Kitty doesn't, for obvious reasons. It's a nice detail and shows how capable Kitty is without her claws. Either Puss was being careful with Kitty because he knows she doesn't have claws (which is adorable and shows he knows her well.) or Kitty has a massive death grip that even if Puss uses his claws he can't take it away. (Which I find hilarious and a great way to show that Kitty is 100% capable of taking care of herself.) What I also love about the films is how they tackle her disability in each film. In the first one, they showed her struggling physically. She needs Puss to help her with small tasks like opening a lock and holding on for safety. As for 11:10 I like to see it as both. He wasn't defensive about her when they fought Jack and Jill and was impressed with Kitty's fighting skills. So him being defensive about her at this moment after he found out about her disability makes sense. That and because he's just that type of character who likes to defend helpless damsels. In the second movie, we see how this affected her emotionally. Her being declawed caused trust issues and plays a role in why she's so defensive. And it never accord to me that her wish could've been for her claws back. Which I think is good because, unlike a lot of other disabled characters, she never made her disability her whole personality. And again, unlike many disabled characters who get their disability "fixed" Kitty doesn't wish for her disability to be gone. Because there's no point. She's already shown to be capable of taking care of herself without them. So we got to see her struggle without help, and we get to see her struggle emotionally. I hope in future installments, we see her struggle with the consequences of declawing. Like the pain, it comes with. This would make sense because if there's one thing that we notice in the first and second films, Kitty and Puss are getting older. So her developing pain at an older age while Puss doesn't would make a lot of sense. I hope we get a hint of this in Shrek 5 or Puss in Boots 3 if we get one.

I theorize that Kitty made up that story about her also ditching the wedding. Up until that point she doesn't come across as a person who left their own wedding, but as someone who's bitter over being the one to get left. Also she only tells that story after overhearing how deeply regretful Puss feels over not being there for her. I think there might be more to the story than Kitty's letting on. Like she told Perrito at the river that Kitty likes to play things close to the vest like the time she suggested sharing the wish with Puss without revealing that she thought that she might have already gotten what she wanted. She also told Perrito that every time she lets her guard down she's been "double-crossed, declawed, played and betrayed". The first movie mentioned how she got declawed and the second emphasizes that Puss "betrayed" her by leaving her at the altar, but who was the one that "played" her? If Kitty's lying about not showing up I think it was because she was testing the waters with Puss because while witnessing that one moment of vulnerability from caused her to reevaluate their relationship Kitty's not the type to open up without some assurances and if she's telling the truth she might have figured out that Puss didn't have any intention of showing up without fully understanding why.

I didn't consider that but it makes so much sense, it's not that she got her trademark soft paws as a result of being declawed or that she purposefully developed that skill, it was simply a side-effect of trying to avoid the pain that it likely causes her to use her paws.

First off, with regards to the second movie, the fact that it explored the fact that being a hero whose always in the limelight is actually an extremely lonely and narcissistic existence was extremely compelling, especially towards those who want to become a KZfaqr like myself. I'm going to make sure that I have a life alongside my career as well. Second off, yes, DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT! It can cause chronic paw and back pain and can even make it hard for your cat to walk. Deal with those scratches because that's what a cat comes with.

One of my favorite clips from the movie, just because it's powerful in its own way, is Puss having flashbacks to those lonely times. Like sure we see when he's daydreaming about the good old days, the wild nights at the bar, riding his horse into the sunset, typical hero stuff in movies. But what happens afterward? The party is over and he's alone at the bar because as a traveler everyone went home but him. Ride off into the sunset, the day is saved but he has a flashback to sitting alone at a campfire with his horse quietly grazing nearby. No one really thinks about what happens in the quiet moments, and honestly it's why hero types like Puss go looking for new adventures because they usually don't know what to do with themselves in those extended quiet periods.

One thing I’ve noticed, is that Puss is very respectful of Kitty’s claws being removed. When they’re fighting over the map, you can see his claws, and that she doesn’t have hers. He doesn’t dig them in to get a better grip, he doesn’t even use them at all in this instance. It also seems he’s trying to subconsciously keep it fair for Kitty even when he’s angry at her

This means that theirs fighting style consist on using the claws. However! Two of the cats we got from a shelter were declawed before we got them (same household) and they seem happy but there are times where I wonder if they're ok. The girl one yells a lot and asserts herself, she used to bite cardboard until we had some of her teeth removed (they were rotting and it was a health thing) but poor baby is kinda defenseless now. She's loud and assertive around people she trusts but hides in high places (the other cats we have don't jump as high as her) when people she doesn't trust are over. My other cat is a boy who has the same claw removal thing and it affects him differently. He's sort of clumsy falling off of beds a lot but I think since he's been here from a younger age he's a lot more trusting of people than his sister. He does tend to bat people's ankles or randomly bite my hands or feet. They're both lucky to be in a safe household but if we let them be outdoor cats I'm convinced they would die. We had one other cat from the same shelter, he's dead now but he did have claws and he didn't seem to use that fact to bully the others so that was at least kind of him. Come to think or it the balance thing might be why my girl cat with no claws always has her tail up but the boy cat with claws always had his down

I never thought about Kitty having chronic pain, and yet I can see that being canon to the point where it's a decent explanation for her thieving talent. I wouldn't say Kitty's invisible disability/adaptations are completely absent in the movie, although they are definitely not as prominent as the first. Aside from the brief mention of her declawing, her soft touch adaptation does come in briefly during the climax when she *catches a poison apple bomb without it going off on her and flings it right back into Jack Horner's face*. That's pretty epic. Can we also appreciate the fact that Dreamworks took the whole wishing on a star trope literally because they're all trying to make a wish while standing ON the actual star?? 🏅👏

Since the first movie I always knew she was disable. What I love about her is that she's a strong fierce cat despite not having her claws. That she's clever to adapt in situations that require claws in an out of box way. She's always been my favourite character and such a role model for my trauma trust-issue self.

Stuff I learned about in your videos through you have really helped in my college class on deviancy and normalcy. Especially around discussions of disability and Nurodiversity. As well as helping me verbalize and wrap my head around concepts or things I had just been feeling for a long time and didn’t have the right words for. Your videos mean a lot to me

It’s really nice to see death being put in a more positive light. especially without any mention of heaven or hell. yes it can be hard to lose a loved one and all but death isn’t really that terrible. if you ask me if I lived a long life doing enough in all of it i would kinda freak out if I woke up in a white endless void where I can never truly rest

Wow! I never even thought of her being declawed as her being disabled but after hearing someone say it it makes so much sense! I'm so glad they didn't go the bad route with her wish in tlw 💗 also PREACH on how bad declawing is... my sister adopted a cat who was front-declawed by whoever her original owners were, assumedly when she was a baby. She cant knead or scratch etc unless she strains herself to use her back claws or bite and she's always hated kids since we got her, so we think she must have been bothered by them a lot growing up. When I hear someone declawed their cat it's an immediate red flag for me

I never considered the question if she was disabled, but as soon as I saw the title I was just like "YES!" I am studying to be a veterinarian right now, and I had to write a paper on declawing in my first year. The pictures I had to see were heartbreaking. I had a declawed cat as a child, but we adopted her that way. She was always a little prickly and didn't like me (or people in general) very much, and I have always wondered since then how much of that was her fear of not having her claws.

My one issue with Kitty is that I worry the range of motion in her fingers might make kids think cat's paws can regain that ammount of functionality after a declawing. They can't, it severs the micro tendons that curl the toes. Their is a surgery that can fix it that's often been used on big cats who were declawed to reatach the the microtendons, but I wish it was at least mentioned that she had that surgery. IMO the illusion that declawing dousn't do a huge ammount of damage to the paw needs to be obliterated with extreme predujice.

I love how they don't make her disability her whole personality in the new movie like most toxic movies and shows do, because I just always see that happening and it's good to see that we're moving away form toxic media trends like those 🥰

It's interesting you brought up how terrible Kitty's foster family were for declawing her because in the Shrek universe, not all humans consider fairy tale creatures as their equals. The most prime examples are none other than Lord Farquaad and Jack Horner. Lord Farquaad was literally a fascist towards fairy tale creatures and Jack Horner has envious prejudice towards fairy tale creatures because he got outstaged by Pinocchio. I have always considered Puss in Boots as bisexual. When I was him for the first time in the trailers, I also consider Perrito as bi. Must be because I'm bi myself. Personally, I wish Puss and Kitty don't get married because I love how they have kinda open relationship. Her are reasons why I probably think this way: 1. My parent weren't never married. Instead they had unmarried cohabitation. When my parents decided to not live with each other anymore, I was shocked about it because I was too young to comprehend it. My older siblings were old enough to comprehend it. Luckily, as I grew up, I learned to understand my parents and comprehend the end of their relationship. 2. I'm really tired of Matt Walsh, Dennis Prager, Ben and Abby Shapiro constantly preaching about how people must get married because they think marriage is the only way for valid relationships. Marriage isn't necessary for love. Love is love and love can be anything. 3. The Shrek franchise is best known for having unconventional relationships. Shrek and Fiona are the "beauty and the beast" couple but Fiona as a princess decided to embrace her ogre side. Donkey and Dragon are an interspecies couple. So, it would be awesome if the Shrek franchise continued its unconventional tradition with Puss and Kitty not getting married and having unmarried relationship. Some people may get me wrong but I'm not against the concept of marriage. People who want to get married are allowed to get married. In fact, I wish Luz and Amity get married in the last episode of The Owl House. I also think Eda and Raine should get married.

If Puss and Kitty don’t get married, they’re practically their voice actors as cats. Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek Pinault have a strong relationship as friends, but not a married couple.

The first puss in boots movie was the first time I heard about declawing, I was just a little kid but I knew in that moment I would never do that to my cat if I had one, and now I do have a cat and he’s keeping his claws no matter how many scratches I may have on my arms

When I heard Oakwyrm rant about why declawing cats is animal cruelty actually made me cry, I never thought about the gravity of REMOVING YOUR CATS BONES TO KEEP CLAWS FROM GROWING. I have a really old cat who was declawed from the front, back when it was popular so before I was born, and I never realized how much pain he was in.

Declawing is such an extreme way to "handle" a cat scratching things it shouldn't. Trimming their claws (so they are blunt instead of sharp) or using claw caps gets the same result without the trauma.

One of the things I like about Kitty too is that even though her lack of claws is obviously disabling, she does find a bright side for herself in that she has the softest paws. Oftentimes when disability is shown in film I feel like the only side effect the character has is a love for life that the protagonist should learn from, but Kitty has found a side effect from her disability that’s actually a benefit to *her* and it also doesn’t disregard the other factors that are disabling her. It’s something she cultivated for herself that is affected by her disability but isn’t some sort of lesson or benefit to the protagonist which I really appreciate.

AUGHHH YES KITTY!!! One of my two fav declawed tuxedo cat girlbosses [the other is Mittens from Bolt, love her]. Kitty having chronic pain makes SO MUCH SENSE. I will have to **slightly** disagree with you on worrying that her wish was going to be getting her claws back, as while I hate the whole trope of "disabled character wishes their disability away", she lacks one of her natural defenses. You kinda gotta remember she's a cat, not a human. She may be a human-like cat, but she still **is a cat**, it most likely hurts for her to **touch** things half the time. That and....I mean if you're right on the chronic pain thing, I absolutely would wish my chronic pain away if given any sort of wish. Nice review tho!

Yes. Declawing a cat is horrendous. I have a 13 lbs. female tuxie, and she has all her claws. My roommate has a 5 or so pound female brindle that has been declawed. I spend a fair amount of time keeping my monster cat from bullying his little kitty. As I need the place to stay, I've kept my mouth shut on her declawing, but I'm not happy about it.
