Here's the lineup which would win the trophy for England. Back three: Marc, Stone and Walker. Midfield: Rice and Jude, double pivot. Foden and Mainoo as the tens. Foden operating on the right side and Mainoo operating on the left side. Forwards: Gordon, Kane and Palmer.

Mainoo may be a part of the solution, but the main problem is surely the lack of goal scoring chances. We need two proper wingers to create those chances,but we have had no threat from the left wing, which is why Gordon should start. The team that scores the most goals wins football matches.

No., he is only a minor part of the solution. A formation change is needed to excise our problems. 3 at the back (Walker, Stones, Guehi) gets rid of the left back problem. 5 in midfield (TAA, Mainoo, Rice. Rice as DM, Mainoo left side, TAA, right side, Saka at right wing half and Gordon at left wing half. This gives TAA a chance to hit runners (Saka and Gordon, Palmer). Unlike in previous games when he had no runners to hit. 2 up front (perm 2 from 3 of Foden , Palmer, and Bellingham). Kane gets dropped. A great striker but he can only function in a slow developing attack. He can't make through runs. These changes would speed up the process, along with a demand for one touch football, and passes a yard in front of players (to make them move forward), of getting to the opponents area before they settle into a low block. We can't have too many players who want the ball to feet. They slow progress up the pitch. Foden: all the skills but he kills the pace of the attack. Likewise Bellingham. That is why Foden, Bellingham, Palmer (perm 2 from 3) are playing in the 10 and false 9 positions. If needed we can switch out the 2 front men for Watkins and Toney. Palmer is probably the ideal man to play the false nine because he is so flexible about switching to slightly wider positions and running behind.. This is something Foden and Bellingham don't want to do.

The issue is that 'you can't dance well on a 3 legged table' - England currently have some of the best dancers in the world available up front. The issue is the England midfield, it's woeful compared to most other Euro's teams - not the quality of the players available - it's the current awful functioning of the centre mids, in and out of possession. We are now seeing almost all pundits calling on a 19 yr old to resolve that (and I haven't seen anythign from Mainoo for England so far that makes me believe he's the answer). He's another very talented young player, he's not got the positional ability to resolve the core issue for England. There is one midfielder in Southgate's squad that 'could' provide the stablaising 4th leg tothe table to enable all our wonderful dancers to light up the tournament: but Southgate has refused to give him a chance so far. It'll be sad if we never find out if he's the key :(

You say Southgate's not a gambler and yet he played Trent in an unfamiliar midfield role. That was a huge gamble that backfired. So maybe now he's decided to stop gambling. I do, however, think that playing Palmer or Gordon in their natural positions isn't really a gamble at all as they do that for their clubs. It's the fact that he will have to leave out Foden or Saka, and he won't want to do that.

We all know Southgate isn't up to the task of England winning this tournament. Any other manager could. Foden advanced in centre, Gordon on the left, Palmer on the right, Saka at LB, Mainoo with RIce in the middle. That team wins this no problem.

If Bellingham is below par then bring on Eze who runs past players for fun, and they will hate facing him

England have so many good players. They have scored 2 goals to date. The setup is wrong which even I can see. Southgate may be a nice man but has no aggression and no idea how to set up his team.
